Serious problem with this app

If your phone is locked this app won’t work! However when you install and set up the test drive the app doesn’t alert you that it’s not going to work, or that the phone is locked, etc. It sets up the secondary carrier as T-Mobile but that carrier will not transmit any data. In order to unlock a phone on AT&T, the phone must be backed up, erased, and restored. This wipes away the secondary carrier settings, but the T-Mobile app does not recognize this. The app has no way to reestablish the credentials for the secondary carrier. I called T-Mobile technical support and they were clueless.

Great idea but needs work

This a great idea to let people test out a network before committing and porting a number and all that. I’m also surprised it’s 30 days and not like 7 or 14 days. It’ll give me plenty of time to test out in various locations. Concept aside, I kept having an issue where it would say my eSIM was already in use. (It wasn’t.) I randomly just tried again two days ago, and it finally completed setup. I also wish the app did more, like tracking the minutes and data used. It would also be nice if you could record locations with signal strength and data speed, but that’s probably asking for a lot.

Great concept, for a terrible network

I was on the fence about switching over to T-Mobile due to network concerns when I read about the T-Mobile Test Drive option. The app itself is awesome and that’s pretty much where it ends. Just download and install the app, setup the eSIM to work with T-Mobile, and test it for 30 days. It’s that easy! I say easy and I mean it. The test itself was absolutely terrible. The T-Mobile coverage maps on the company’s website showed excellent 4G coverage in the areas surrounding my house, which are absolutely bold faced lies. I had one bar max and “blazing” speeds of 0.61 Mbps down and 0.10 Mbps up. Sure, I have WIFI for data and calling but if it’s ever down and there’s an emergency, I’m out of luck. The surrounding areas have a little bit coverage but nowhere near the levels that T-Mobile advertises on their coverage maps. Add in the data breaches and it’s all pretty concerning. The T-Mobile coverage has become so bad, a local news station did a report on it and the company’s response is “we’re upgrading our towers”. After the Test Drive, removing the link to the eSIM is easy and gets it off your phone without any issues. It saved a lot of headaches switching carriers and then having to switch back.

Locked me out of my phone for 24 hours

If I could give 0 stars I would. I am a straight talk customer and am unfamiliar with t mobile but was referred from a friend to see if my phone could possibly be compatible for this free 30 day trial. I downloaded app, it scanned my phone and said it WAS compatible and so I continued with setting it up and putting it as my primary and my phone restarted and when I would try and connect to my cellular network to continue the process it would tell me that my SIM card was NOT compatible and that I would either need to insert a t mobile one or contact Apple to unlock the carrier. I THINK NOT. I stressed all day and night long trying to swipe up and get out of the restart and it wouldn’t. I thought I was going to have to call Apple to somehow fix my problem. Woke up this morning and it was back to normal, hallelujah. I must be a nimwit because I don’t have t mobile so if you don’t have t mobile plz don’t download.

Nice offer, but horrible signal and results

While a nice offer and app, and pretty good documentation; the network from my location was useless. I’m in the western Cleveland suburbs near the lake. Only get 1 bar of att in my house, so thought I would try T-Mobile on my iPhone 11 Max. Got two bars of signal on T-mobile, but speeds and internet access useless. On T-Mobile Speedtest from inside was 0.02 down and 0.01 up. Outside. 6 down, 2 up. Att for comparison was 35 down and 10 up inside and 50 down and 15 up outside. My iPhone 11 max is not 5G, but why worry with t-mobile, top speed was 2 down and 1 up, never got higher than that. Not my phone, since on WiFi I get 650 down. So nice try, but my location just seems useless.

Basic functionality, but buggy

The app gets 4 stars because it performs its basic function: letting me get a test drive of their network. However it does have bugs. During installation it hung at the end and, even after waiting for 30 minutes, never completed. I had to kill the installation to move on. Now, I can’t access any of the app screens or internal tools, but nevertheless it did install a valid eSIM. For that I’m grateful. It is allowing me to kick the tires on their network, and to ensure I can get decent reception in the areas I care most about. So far, so good, and I probably will switch to T-Mobile because of the free test. BTW I do have the latest iPhone hardware and software, so the installation bug is on them. And I don’t want to retry the installation, as other reviewers reported that that messed up the eSIM test - thinking that it was a second attempt, when you only get one free trial. Bottom line: good, but it could be better.

Terrible App

The app worked great at first. It let me at up my e-sim and it connected to the network, but I when I tried to load anything my phone told me I wasn’t connected to a network even though I had full bars. I tried to remove the trial number and add it back to my phone to see if this would fix the problem, but the app wouldn’t give me the option to put the number back on my e-sim. I tried calling customer service, and after being transferred 9 times, I was provided with the number to support that I called in the first place. I’m definitely not going to switch networks, if this is how their app and customer service work.

Former T-Mobile user, won’t let me test.

I left T-Mobile several years ago because although I loved the price and T-Mobile, where I moved to I had barely any signal in my home even with a cell spot. The engineers back then said there were no towers near me so I was out of luck. Fast forward to now and I saw the app and figured what a good way to see if signal has improved being it’s been about 5 years and with expansion and such maybe there’s better signal. After downloading and installing the app when I enter my info, it tells me I’m already a customer and to log in to my account and that the test drive doesn’t apply to me. Haven’t been a customer in years so that’s a fail. Oh well.

Buggy

I have an iPhone SE 2 , I was a T-Mobile customer for 1 day several years ago and brought phone back because poor coverage.I thought because of sprint merger I might have better coverage in my area. I got the T-Mobile network test app from the App Store and tried to sign in. It said “Hi, we already know you.” But I don’t have an account so tried several times but was unable to use it. Called t-mobile help line and waited an hour for a return call. She verified I wasn’t coming up as a customer, but didn’t know why it wasn’t working. I tried again this time with another email address and this time it worked. But with several glitches/app crashing/ having to restart over and over, but finally it said my test run was started. Now I am able to use it but sadly the data speed is less than 2Mbps while Verizon is 140Mbps in same area. So I wanted to check how much data was used and the app is not working and going back to saying “Hi we know you “ but not giving any way to see progress on test drive. So hard to use and deal with! Can’t imagine what it would be like as a actual customer 🙁. I liked the offers they have but not worth it if it doesn’t work.

What a Waste of Time!!

Some things to note before we begin: I started out on iOS 14.8, and eventually went to iOS 15 as I progressed through this nightmare.I installed this app just to try out the network. I get the eSIM, and install it. Then the activation hangs. I force quit the app and reopen it, and the app says the eSIM is not installed. Considering the app probably had a bug, I delete the eSIM, and try to reinstall it. Big mistake! The eSIM never installed again.Called CS for help, and they said they had to send me a new eSIM to fix the problem. Only thing is (1) it didn’t sync up with the app, and (2) it wasn’t even my eSIM.Called again, but this time with an Apple Senior Advisor on the line. Took forever to locate a non-existent account. Once they located it, I set a PIN, and then they said I had to speak to sales to delete the trial and get a new one. Every time my advisor from Apple and I explained to these people that were obviously not brought up to speed with the situation from the previous agent, it lead to endless bounces. We eventually gave up after the last bounce put us on an endless hold. Now if only there was a way to delete the account. I don’t want it anymore after this terrible experience, so they better do something, so that I can create a new account with a plan I do want.Overall, a huge waste of time. Never again will I do a test drive with T-Mobile.
