Good all-around application for iPad Netgear Management and Monitoring

Like the fact that the program display and allows one to monitor activity/function per port, works well on iPad Pro. Have two Netgear GC728X’s and appreciate the fact that notifications are sent via email via the Insight service is connection is lost- this has been a boon as several times have lost ISP connection (modem went down etc.) and received a message that connection was broken. The subscription price is very reasonable. One request- would like the developers to make the program so that when iPad is used in LANDSCAPE MODE the program can rotate the screen accordingly... If that is implemented then (5) Stars!Kind Regards!

Absolutely unintuitive, slow and poorly documented

I have been a netgear customer and evangelist since 1998. it saddens me that the company that gave us the Orbi has brought the Insight line of products to market too. I am guessing Netgear sacked the orbi team and had a bunch of IT interns develop this app and the hardware too. The app locks up frequently, it keeps saying that the product i am registering is registered with another account but then magically the device gets registered to my account. changes made to devices take way too long to show up. the documentation is not current and does not reflect reality. I have my MCSE, A+ and Net+ certs and i have not been able to get a master and receiver configured! and whatever you do DO NOT CONTACT SUPPORT!! levels 1 and 2 are reading off screens and have ZERO real world experience with any netgear products and level 3 (the product development team) could not answer the most basic questions (eg. “what is the line of sight operating distance of the WBC502 in access point mode. NOT IN AIRBRIDGE MODE). sorry netgear, you lost a long term loyal customer.

Logging in is slow and confusing

Login authentication is slow. Clicking on "Web Interface," which seems to be the only option for managing the device, asks you to authenticate over and over again. Actually, the management interface may have opened in a browser window, but the app fails to take you to it.Config changes are slow to take affect but I think it's due to the device, not the app.

Complicated to use and poor management logic

After reading all the recent one star reviews, I decided to give it try anyway. The registration process was ok, I was even ok with the dreadful message about me paying subscription after the short trial. Once I landed on the step which I was asked to create a new device pw which will replace the one I had carefully crafted for the device during the setup, I was like that’s it. I’m done. Even closing the account takes steps of verifications. I thought the security measurements at my work was over the top, this is goes beyond that from a different perspective. I understand the subscription model, but can’t you offer something free for the customer so they can do something on their mobile device and controlling the devices you made which they had purchased? Egh …

App review - hard to use

This is NOT a renew of the hardware but rather the software and the installation/setup process which was rather like watching Scotland trying to qualify for the World Cup: disappointing and irritating. First the app forces portrait mode rendering my iPad Pro with a keyboard rather useless. The setup is not very intuitive and perhaps confusing if things are done in the ‘wrong’ order.I purchased a NAS214 and four 12TB disks, the max configuration for this device. Putting the disks in before configuring the device maybe made things more difficult. As soon as I put the disks in and power on the device it started syncing the data. I let this run for about 5 hours and then powered down to get this app and configure the device. After configuration was done the device was recognized, on my LAN with an IP. Status showed it configured as RAID5 giving about 37TG. With about 12 hours of resyncing the formatting is about 1/3 complete. With RAID5 there is no need to write 48TB of zeros. You can write the control structures only. No real validation of the ‘health’ of the disk is accomplished by this as its almost certain the the controller with ‘eat’ bad sectors with no errors until the free pool is exhausted. You only to a setup once so if the hardware is reliable I would probably get a bigger one of these if all goes well.

App doesn’t configure everything

I figured out was wrong when I finally found in the documentation that said you can’t configure the WBC502 to be a client bridge from the insight app. It me took me hours trying over and over to then get it out of insight mode, because connecting from the browser doesn’t allow certain configuration until your out of insight mode. I finally just reset the unit. Deleted the insight app from my phone and gave it this 1 Star rating. The first thing the app should ask is are you configuring it XYZ, if so then don’t use the app. I have been a Netgear customer for years. Worst experience I have ever had trying to get a product configured.

Great App

I think people whining about this app are a bit unfair. I have been in IT for nearly 30 years. I have been using the app for a few weeks and have just recently purchased the Pro subscription. I have to say it is really good. No complaints. My complaint is with issues on applying the subscription. I hate purchasing licenses via our vendor. I would rather purchase licenses direct from netgear via the app or website. It has been 12 days and I am still trying to get the license to work and netgear is very slow to react. I am still giving it 5 stars because the functionality of it is that good. Managing many many devices with this app has been a breeze. Multiple POE switches and many Wi-Fi access points couldn’t be easier.

functional but not intuitive

netgear has 1 billion product lines (this is a qualitative estimate), and 6 ways to interface with each of those products (another qualitative assessment). which means there are ~6b paths to navigate to find the one that works for your product and your environment. and their information architecture makes it very difficult to discover *your* right path. so you're bushwhacking most of the time. just to get setup with my orbipro6 i jumped between 2 apps and multiple browser based interfaces just to land in a good spot. to wit, i now have a netgear account, an insight account, and an orbi admin account, and i think my device management is now done through 1 app and 1 web portal (i'm good at managing my personal documentation, so this is ok for me but probably a recipe for disaster for the avg consumer). this insight app is the one i guess i use for my device management. (note: strangely i don't think i use the orbi app, or at least it hasn't been working for me) once you get through all the confusing stuff and are using the app, it works. that's it. this app reliably functions as intended. nothing else. it won't look pretty, it won't be intuitive. it will work. which is all we can ask for i guess. and if you're a real twisted sicko, it may give you a sense of nostalgia for 2003 ux/ui.

Not impressed & it’ll cost ya

OK Netgear, people actually use their iPad horizontally not vertically. And some actually type either on the screen or with a keyboard and the keyboard is horizontal. OMG if its designed for iPad, at least test it on an actual iPad. Or even an iPhone for that matter. Think horizontal. My second issue is: REALLY? You are going to charge per device? OMG just another way to extract money from your loyal base. The third issue is the extreme labor intensive way to add each device. Seriously there is no option to have it search an existing, functioning network and you simply supply the password for all or each device? Unbelievable. And create another account/password and alternately use Facebook credentials as an alternative? Please think about IT security. On the positive side, the interface is very pretty. The layout from what I saw before I gave up was clear and appeared easy to work with. But I suspect very few will have the time/patience to set this up and then find themselves with another yearly/monthly $ draw from their assets. Netgear makes great products and this app, if fixed, should be FREE as it would encourage more purchases of their products.

Doesn’t work well

Here’s what the onboarding experience is like. You try to sign in through Facebook and the Netgear app kicks back an error. So you try to paste in your long password but it won’t even pull up the “paste” menu on double tap. Thus encouraging you to reset password and create a weak one you can memorize and easily type in. So you hit reset password. You get an email that takes you to a reset page. You put in new password and page loads an expired error even though the email is 10 seconds old. Horrible experience.
