Why do we have to go backwards

I have been using my cloud products for 10 years starting with my book. Now I’m on the PR2100 and it worked well with OS3. I mainly use the products for backup and enjoy the cloud access to files as I travel frequently. I have delayed updating to OS5 for sometime knowing it did not have the OS3 capabilities and had hoped that they would continue to complete the build out. But they have not. OS 3 is no longer supported and I have made the move. Seems very focused on pictures only. I cannot edit other file types in the app. I cannot save other file types from my iPhone or iPad to the OS5 app. So unless you just want to manage pictures from IOS this seems like a huge waste of having cloud access and does not have the functionality of previous versions although it was beta released in late 2020? Looks like it is time to find another backup provider with cloud access.

Worse than MyCloud3

I’ve owned several MyCloud devices over the years. I’m done with this company. I recently updated the firmware on my newest 20TB drive from version 3 to version 5. It took nearly 2 weeks for the drive to index all of the files. After that the hard drives are still very active, when even when they are not in use. This will cause the drives to wear out faster. What’s worse is that each user now needs to register and be logged into a western digital account in order to view the files with the app. This was not required on version 3. This morning I opened the app to view my files. The app had logged me out. I tried to log in to no avail. It just hangs at login. I wont be purchasing Western Digital products again.

My Cloud OS 5

It is still being developed and seems to be a good app but I believe to maybe be a good app when they get done. I think the best apps were the older ones like My Book, no problems for others to use from anywhere like it was designed to do. The next best one was My Cloud OS 3. The upgrades don’t seem to get better for the user just WD because of the cost involving the need to buy new products (hardware) which puts more into the coffers of the company which looks forward to the haves and not for the elderly and have nots. But that is business and can be inspected. As a user it should be expected and the old addeged is “Buyer beware”

Accessing Photos Is A Pain!

I have [tried] to upload my iCloud Photo Library as a 2nd back up solution to my NAS using this app. The app itself does look nicer but all this does not help if I cannot view the photos on my other devices properly. I have 20,000+ in my library and all I get is this huge endless list of photos that takes a million years to fetch the images from every time I open the app. Surely there should be a way to cache the thumbnails locally for quicker access? Also it does not seem to upload the folders. Therefore I am stuck with an endless list of photos. There is also no proper progress bar to tell me how many of my images have been uploaded correctly yet. I am also getting lots of „oops ... something went wrong!“ messages when I try to look at my photos from a different view

CAPTCHA

In trying to sign up for this app it requires an CAPTCHA or visual verification to be done to prove that I am assuming that i am not a robot. The problem with this CAPTCHA is that its not accessible to those who are blind and visually impaired. Not only is that a problem but there is no alternative to the visual verification, usually there is a audio recording that provides those who are blind and visually impaired an alternative way to access the sign up. according to W3CAG there are standards for how accessibility for those who are blind should be able to access the internet. It is strongly recommended that you make these changes ASAP. I gave this app an zero for this reason, once changes are made I would totally be willing to change my rating. Thank you!

Useless Without an Account

But trying to get this to work for several weeks. But every time I go through the steps to create an account I get the same error message telling me I’m not connected to the internet, which is wrong because I can download and install apps to my drive. The drive has the latest firmware and is in good condition. I tried the suggestions written on the community forums. Nothing worked. I emailed tech support and that didn’t help. Couldn’t even send them the log files they requested because Apple’s mail servers decided not to work for this particular situation. I’m starting to feel like WDC hates me and wants me to switch to a competitor because nothing works as advertised for me anymore. Yes, I am taking this personally now.

Gaffe-ware

Software that is supposed to be an upgrade but is a downgrade. Perhaps the world of cloud - connected devices is so infested with malicious hackers that the only way to keep me safe is to severely limit what my MyCloud device can let me look at and download. In the privacy of my on home I can see a folder with 300 songs on my My cloud device - but there is no option for “download” - so how am I supposed to transfer those to my iPad? I can send a link and individually select songs. How about a choice for
