Doesn’t work anymore after the recent update

This app worked SUPER well and fast……until they did an update this year. Now it won’t work at all. Occasionally, it will connect but after like half an hour of going back and forth. Once you finally get it to connect to your camera, it won’t connect anymore unless you delete ALL your previous settings and spend another who knows how long trying to get it to connect again. After whatever update they did, it’s completely useless. Terrible. Canon, you need to fix this!!!!!!!!

Reliable and simple camera to iPhone, very satisfied.

I’ve been using the app for a week with new Canon EOS M50. Good guide for pairing (the usual Bluetooth multi step but the app is easy to follow). Once paired it stays paired so you don’t have to set it up new every time. App has very fast and straightforward and intuitive ability to scroll through images quickly. There are hundreds in my camera already and I found it super easy to locate, zoom in, download to iPhone for further editing or posting. Have not used GPS or remote control yet. I also every much like that Canon does not try too hard to direct you to their cloud storage (I have my own thank you very much) unlike some other brands who even force you to create jpg with their supposed photo management software (which usually stinks). I also like the M50 as a lightweight travel camera in between a pocket cam, iPhone, and DLSR.

Ease of use

This app is simply very helpful especially for beginners/ amateurs. The importing is fast if you have adequate space on your device. You can preview and delete unwanted pictures from your camera before transferring to device. Unfortunately you can’t preview videos before transferring/ importing. A little difficult to switch networks if you already have one saved to your camera/ app. Overall, easy to use and handy.

I finally figured it all out!

This camera does so much. On vacation and I finally took the time to learn more functions! I love the remote camera mode using your smartphone! It has to be with the same wi-fi area. That’s ok. The sending feature from camera to phone is wonderful. I need to know if it has the ability to do multiple picture uploads. A high quality video is gonna take way too long, & that’s the only bummer. If it had the way of airdrop then this would be gold! Overall, I love ❤️

Bugged at best

Awesome WHEN it works. Buggy the rest of the time. The Smart Connect tutorial is a joke. Use this app to connect to a Canon Powershot SXE530HS. Just an amateur photo guy but love the ability to grab the shot and shoot it straight to my iPhone 13 pro max to run it through touch-ups before posting to social media for work. Awesome concept especially when shooting product shots on the fly without running back to a desktop. But it almost never works unless I pull the phone off Wi-Fi and connect to the cameras Wi-Fi instead of seeing it on our network. So out in the field, literally in the woods I can connect to it since I am not accessing Wi-Fi but most of my reason is to use in my work environment. If you delete the access point between the phone and the camera while on your network it will work three out of four times. But why? Why must it be deleted and added back each time to POSSIBLY be able to make a connection with its own app. Granted my camera is about three years old but I know guys using five year old Nikons with no problems. At this point looking into memory cards with Wi-Fi capabilities instead of this headache Canon created.

Fix this app!

I’m not sure which it is, the app or the camera, probably both. The first time I connected the app to my 1DX Markiii it seemed to work fine after configuring everything, which by the way is far more complicated than it needs to be. Maybe it was the fact I hadn’t taken many pictures yet so it didn’t have to process much information. But, after the first time transferring a few images to my phone and then filling the cameras card up a bit I went to transfer a few more images and it crashes the app just scrolling the images. Then the WiFi connection drops and refuses to connect again until you turn the camera off then back on. After that it just repeats the same thing again. You’d think after spending $7000 on a camera that is supposed to do what they say it can Canon would provide an app that makes it actually happen. Apparently they should charge $10,000 and spend the extra on building a working app! And I believe I read somewhere that canon plans on charging for the next version of their camera connecting app. I know now not to buy that one. Good thing they gave everybody a test run for nothing so they know what there’re going to get with a paid version.

Longevity

I have been using this app since 2017, and I have always appreciated being able to put my images on a device straight out of camera.Connect has come a long way since then.I do have one question, and it’s in regards to video. Up until very recently I have been able to move videos to a device, and suddenly that stopped. I have the latest version, and cannot figure out why I can’t move these files. Any help would be appreciated.

Good but not perfect

I’ve been using the app for a couple months now and overall I’m happy with its functionality when it works. As others have mentioned the camera seems to connect and drop randomly. I found turning off the camera and waiting about 2 seconds and then turning it back on seems to fix that issue and it connects right away. I’m currently using this on an iPhone 7+ with a canon 80D. I’m not sure if anyone else has noticed this but when I download my photos from the camera they’re in JPEG even though I’m shooting in raw. When I open the app to view photos I see that they are raw files. I select the pictures I want and download them but when I move them from iPhoto to Lightroom mobile they are all JPEG. Not sure if this is an iPhone optimizing issue or not. I did test my theory using a third party camera app for iPhone that lets you shoot raw photos using the phones camera and imported those into Lightroom mobile and those remained in their raw format. I wish I could download the files to a folder vs only having the option to download to iPhoto to get around this issue. Other than that everything else seems fine. I like using the app as a remote shutter when shooting at night.

I use mainly for geotagging

I use this app mainly for geotagging. It connects with my R8 and RP quickly to transfer gps location, unlike fujifilm’s app and Fujifilm cameras. My main problem with this app is that it dies after a day or two, so I have to remember to relaunch it. I believe there was an ability to keep this open in the background with previous versions, but the feature went away at some point.
