App is unstable

I really want to love this product. The gimbal itself seems really stable and nicely thought out. The app on the other hand seems really low quality and has already begun crashing on me on load, despite rebooting my phone or reinstalling the app. Already lost great footage on a first try with recording in the app. Super disappointing. It just crashes midway through the clip. No idea why. I’m running iOS 17 on an iPhone XR. With the case I’m coming in at approx. 236g.

Remote only with prime membership

Seriously what is it about your gimbals you give abilities only if people purchase a membership that isn’t even available to purchase.Offering the ability to remote control the device that you purchased for over $200 with a locked out ability until you purchase a membership is already ridiculous…On top of that, it doesn’t even work or give you the ability to purchase it in the first place for the 5s honestly, I am seriously considering returning and never doing business with your company again.Everyone else is gives you the ability to use their gimbal to their full potential with the purchase of their gimbals except your company.I will be creating a review of your product line to warn people.Horrible business model.

It’s getting better!

Taking all in to account, I have a couple different model gimbals and they are quite brilliant. I can’t recommend them enough, easily the best bang for your buck, without question! I use the Smooth Xs pretty often and you think a 2-axis gimbal couldn’t be so versatile, but it’s more than what the casual and amateur videographer needs! Simple, reliable, durable. Check-check-check!Now the app has its flaws but surprisingly gets better. Certainly better than other brands in my opinion and the amount of features you get is surprising and if they continue to make the improvements with very limited to no sequence modules or video save crashes it would easily be a solid 4 star or a light but worthy 5 star companion app! And I would definitely sign up for the annual membership to take advantage of additional features! Oh yeah I remembered...please make signing up for new users more accurate and streamlined. It was frustrating how I didn’t know if I signed up correctly or not because the APP and the Server were not getting it. Please fix the UX. But, thanks for making improvements to the app! Keep it up!

Good device horrible software

The device meets all the needs i was looking for when shopping around, however the software required to utilize all functions is horrible. The fact that you have to share your location to even use the app is a huge red flag.On the bright side the device does work as intended and has limited functionality with stock and third party camera apps, you just end up losing some of the convenience oriented features such as quick swapping between front/rear cameras.Overall I plan to continue to use the device with the stock iOS camera app and some other third party apps, however when I am in the market for a replacement I will be looking elsewhere.

Total trash app

The timed super unnecessary security protocols on first time login is worse than my banking app. Yo developer I am not opening a bank account here! No one want this app without your first purchasing your steady cam device, it is just a device app. Menu fiction key blares music at you when you select it, not the thing you want to have happen in a recording situation. Cam app likes to fixate on things you not recording. This could be an awesome app but, developers lost focus on what’s important (like the steady cam and menu functions) and chose unnecessary Fort Knox security and focused frivolous add-ons I will never use. It is just a device app, get over yourselves.

Eh

Let’s be honest. The product works amazing. The app is really bad. It’s crazy how I use this to record a lot out in public and sometimes I turn it off so it doesn’t waste battery. Then when I turn it back on most of the videos I take after words if not all of the videos have no audio. Does anyone know how to fix that? Is the audio able to be recovered? That kills it all for me. Now I’m start just using the regular iPhone camera. I didn’t know that was a possibility.

I hate this….😡

If I could, I wouldn’t give this app even a one star rating. Refer to my last review. I can’t write enough about how much I HATE this app. Just let the gimbal work on it’s own. The app is too intrusive and does not work. So it renders the gimbal useless. A piece of crap that I wish I could throw off of a bridge or let a Mac truck run over it. In all my years of buying products, I have never been so disappointed in a product and especially the fact that their is not 24 hour support. 😡😡😡😡😡THIS MAKES NO SENSE. I am so disgusted with the gimbal because of the app situation.

Major Audio issues. Zhiyun READ this!!

iPhones have a rear facing microphone by the camera lenses that is meant to be used when recording video. Why is your app forcing audio to be recorded from the front facing microphone? This wouldn’t work for anybody recording a subject or even vlogging cause the audio is recording to the wrong microphone. Native iOS camera app links to the correct microphone when recording so why can’t you l? Hohem app at least records to the proper mic. This is a HUGE issue for anybody who is a serious filmmaker. Please fix this with a software update.

Wants to know who you are …literally

For having great product, no…you do not need the app to run this. Bluetooth is all you need. Sure SOME features don’t work without the app but why would an App need access to everything? Your microphone, your photos, your location, your data…literally everything. I’m unsure how Apple allowed something like this on their App Store with all of the issues with hacking and identity theft going on today. I do NOT recommend downloading this app for any reason because they do not need your information to use an accessory. Just turn on your Bluetooth and connect and it should start working once it’s paired.

I love this and don’t understand why it’s getting so much hate

I received my Smooth X for Christmas and absolutely love it. The app is very user friendly and their instructions and costumer service is great. Before downloading this app, I read the reviews and was shocked. I don’t get why people are hating on it so much. Am I missing something? Anyway, I love this app and my Smooth X.
