I love this App

I’m not one for writing reviews......but I have a few things to say. First off, watch the tutorials. Maybe learn how to use the app before you rate it? You can design pretty much everything in the iPad app without ever opening the web browser version. I exclusively use the iPad version. I use Solidworks, and Fusion 360, and this app. I’ve also used Alibre, IronCAD and SketchUp. I’m certainly not an expert, but this app is simple and powerful. I like this app because I don’t have to drag around a laptop, just my iPad. I can design whatever I want wherever I want, and export it to Fusion or Solidworks and keep going with the CAM side of things. Use the free version first, draw stuff you don’t care if other people see, then decide. You can draw pretty quick once you get it down. I would like to see key board shortcuts in the iPad app—would save some tapping with the Apple Pencil.

Poor mobile designing

I got this so I can design things in my free time since I no longer have access to inventor for free and immediately there are advantages and disadvantages. For starters there is a mobile version which makes sharing my models 1000 times easier but I have found that in order to properly design things you need to use the computer version since I see no way to input dimensions on the app

Great app, but serious bug in this version

I have no complaints about the features and functionality of Onshape, and the previous versions of the iPad app that I’ve used have worked great for my needs. Unfortunately this latest update introduces an issue where every couple of minutes or so, it will decide to reset to the default isometric view of a part studio, regardless of what I’m in the middle of doing. Often this results in losing some or all of the changes to whatever I was in the process of editing at the time, but even when it doesn’t, it kicks me out of editing whatever feature I was in the middle of editing and resets to the isometric view. With this issue, the app is barely useable. And the browser version of Onshape is not a good alternative on my iPad Pro as it complains about some missing hardware support (and anyway the web UI is not really all that usable in a touch-based environment, even with a trackpad). And yes, I tried turning the iPad off and back on again. It didn’t help.I hope the Onshape team will release a new build with a fix for this issue soon.

As if Solidworks had a mobile version.

As a student in high-school planning to become a CAD drafting engineer, I try to practice as much as possible, along with having a little fun and being creative. Anyway, after learning the basics of CAD programs like solidworks and fusion360, I wanted to try something on mobile. This app works a lot similar to solidworks, to the point where I could almost instantaneously start working. I just had to find where everything I needed was. If there was a version of this that was free for non-commercial use that kept my ideas off the web, I would absolutely give it a 5 star. I’m glad I found this app. Keep up the good work!

Free to use AND u must invest ur time

There is a lot of functionality under the covers. I first spent several hours going through the self paced courses, watching the videos and doing the exercises using a PC and Chrome as the browser. I learned a lot about 3D modeling. Some of the exercises are not easy, but as I found my mistakes and corrected them, the more confident I am about this tool. I have not used any other 3D tool and have only used Visio as a 2D tool. I export my 2D drawings to a laser cutter. I have learned enough to be able to add tabs and notches to my drawings so that the objects that I cut with a laser cutter now interlock and the object is now more structurally solid now that I have these tabs. It’s nice to first see these parts on a screen being rotated around, and the more I check my work on the screeen-the more I feel comfortable that everything will work after I send the drawings to the laser cutter. While I plan to do most of my work on a PC with two monitors, I have used this app to make changes to my existing sketches in my “document”.

The Only Serious Professional CAD Application For iPadOS

After I discovered Onshape I basically had no justification to continue using Solidworks. I really like that I can use the same application across all devices and operating systems.I have used basically every other CAD or 3D application on iPadOS and this application is the only one worth using for CAD with the sole exception of Shapr3D. There are a couple other good 3D apps like Sculptura and Nomad but they’re more like Zbrush and have no free tier.Only two things really hold this app back. First, it doesn’t have a dark mode (although that criticism isn’t unique to Onshape, every CAD program I can think of has this issue). This might sound like a subjective personal gripe, but it is an accessibility issue for people like me with light sensitivity and it reduces battery life needlessly on devices with OLED displays. The second problem is that this isn’t fully featured despite the iPad Pro now being more than capable enough to support the entire feature set. With Fusion 360 now having an online version and reviving its free tier I would be mindful of users jumping ship, especially because that app still offers some features that no version of Onshape has, like integrated cloud FEA and PCB design.

Best designing app

This is by far the best one I have came across. I prefer to design on the computer but having access to my projects my phone is nice as well. You can also share certain projects so others can work on it along side you. I would highly recommend this to anyone. Just as a side note, in my opinion the desktop version is better then phone, but the phone version is still useable. Just take a little more time.

Finally...

Stop looking. You don't pay for features, no subscription, fully functional. It's an actual 3D parametric design software. Design in 2D, extrude for 3D. Literally what you get for computer software. This is the one.⬇️ - rant - ⬇️Thank goodness, the app store is full of dumb crap "viewing" CAD software. Yea that's cool I can view stuff (not helpful? Who needs to "view" on the go? Just take a screenshot, you don't need an app to "view"), but I didn't search for "viewing", I searched for "design".

Pro Tool with a FREE option

This is the only true cloud CAD that really works. This is a real professional tool. I have been using it since the beta a few years ago. It saved me and my teams hours of headaches and caused only a few - as every CAD does. The best part is the support if you are subscribed. They value their customers and the price is fair for a fully supported CAD / PDM if you remove all the admin headache. It’s always strong on solids and even sheet metal by now! Try it, love it and wonder how people could use something else.

Ultimate choice for flexibility

When I first saw this, I was braced for disappointment. Alas, it’s actually an excellent CAD program! It lacks some key features that I can only hope will be added soon (cross sections please!) but one can hardly complain for an entirely browser powered cad suite that you can open on your phone, tablet, and computer with ease! I look forward to learning more about this software, as I think it will be my new CAD of choice for personal projects (I already hugely prefer it to the software I have to use at work, but I’m not naming names). OnShape is in an engineering dream turned reality.
