Best 3D model editing app on the iPad and Free! (although not so intuitive to use)

This app allows iPad users to create, load, edit, and save 3D models and assorted meshes all on the iPad which is very impressive— and free! As others have mentioned though packed with features that work well, it is not intuitive on how to use all of the app’s features. The developer does provide a link to a website which describes some more of the features use but it still takes some time experimenting with the app until the user is able to unlock its potential. My only stumbling block I’ve run into is that the app sometime crashes when it tries to save models I’ve loaded into it; I suspect it might have to do with the size of the models I’ve loaded but am not sure. It would be helpful if the developer were to develop a forum site for a community of users to help each other learn how to use the app to its full potential and in which users could report bugs or feature requests to the developer.I commend the developer in creating such a powerful app for iPad users and releasing it for free!

Free with huge potential

Downloaded the apps while ago and just u til now I started learning to use it. Love the plethora of tools at your fingertips and the help next to them if one chooses to view it. Yet I find myself lost quite often and there are no tutorials. As a beginner to 3D I really would like to give it more stars. I just noticed it’s been a year and nothing has happened to the app. Makes me sad to see such talent toned wasted I cool yet complicated apps like this. Just a suggestion, contact Blender and over the app as a Blender for iPad companion and have more collaboration thrown at it. Don’t let it die!

The only serious 3D app out here.

If you're an actual pro this is the only app that will somewhat fulfill the needs you have. Don't waste time or money on the others, I did and in the end I will be using this and Blnder as always. Free stuff is incredible sometimes. Thanks! Pls make tutorials though, I've been exploring this for hours to identify what button does what, it would be nice to have some context. The UI is horrible, but this is really the only serious 3D app out here so I don't really care anyway. As you can see, I still give it 5 stars and that is simply because no one else has filled this niche. Congrats 👍🏼

Horrible UI

I was overjoyed to finally find an app that had the trademarks of Maya and blender. This app is everything I could ever need for game design. However the ui makes the app unusable. Every time I want do do something I have to scroll and search for the correct button. Every time I try to move the icons to set up a more easily usable interface, they reset on me the next time I open the app or just refuse to move in the first place. The vertex grab points are tiny even on max size so I have to constantly zoom in and out to select things properly and the rotation is on a hair trigger. The worst part is that the developers seem to not care. Almost all reviews mention the horrible ui and the developers seem to just laugh it off with a thanks for your review. This could be the leading 3D modeling app for the iPhone/ IPad but as it is now it’s unusable for making anything in a timely manner.

The app is very good, just difficult to learn

The app is rich with features, and offers a multitude of tools to design and 3D model. A tutorial at the beginning for the app would really improve the user experience and make the app more learnable. An excellent example of such a tutorial at the beginning of the app for a new user is the app Shapr3D. Sketch 3D is better in every way except for the tutorial at the beginning that walks you through getting started, and shows the user a little video tutorial for each feature, and is simpler. I once again reiterate that sketch 3D is more full-featured, but the multitude of features resulted in a more difficult experience getting started. Developers, I would be more than willing to change my rating once a tutorial feature is added. For now, I will continue to fight shapr3d until I can find the time to dedicate hours to learning sketch3d

Porn next to child specific art

I saw someone mention this and had to see for myself. The developer response is disgusting in that no apologies were made and no attempt to correct it. It may not be possible to filter out adult material but you can change the age rating and you can also go in and remove those things. And telling people how they should view this is not the proper response. Some people do not want their children exposed to pornography in what should be a learning tool. Do better.__________________________The thumbnail has not been removed, nor .dae file has not been removed. Developers have always provided their own app support. So since you cannot be bothered to support your app, be sure that will alert Apple of what I see. Passing the buck on and saying it’s Apple not acceptable.

Lasso

This app probably the closest to best for poly modeling for the iPad, and looked almost every one there. It feels that app was designed mostly for touch usage, but with pencil I always want to use as a mouse in desktop apps like Maya, Cinema 4D, or 3DS Max, lasso selection, or paint as C4D, to shorten the time of selections. Custom background color would be a plus as well. Honestly already with just this app, pre-modeling could be done on the iPad, and it is exactly what I was looking for. Onscreen buttons could be helpful as well, like hold shift and drag to extrude, double tap to loop selection. Anyway huge thanks for the effort you’re doing to make the app. Also maybe better to rename it, App Store has the same name app, with less functionality and paid one. Can’t imagine that big companies still not here.

Generally needs Fixing...

I love this app, for my first time doing 3d modeling it's great! There's just one issue I have... I just spent an entire day making and rigging a model. My phone likes to close my apps when it feels it's using too much space. So the app closed. I saved right before it did, but now I can't load it into the editor to finish it! I'm afraid I'll lose that save somehow and have lost all my progress, that's I'll have gotten this app for nothing. Can you please fix this issue as soon as possible?Yes I edited this to 'complain' more, or rather bring up issues I'm having. I can't find any other 3d modeling program that can import the files I can output on this app so I'm stuck trying to work with this. More importantly, I've had sevral issues saving complicated designs. I can easily save them, but it's getting them to load that's the issue. When I can get them to load, the colors are all screwed up and messy. Finally, when I try to turn on editing and have the plain meshes/faces (just the gray one) it immediately crashes/closes the app. Also there needs to be an easy way to separate selected vertices from their current object to make those vertices a separate object themselves.

WOW!

I have not even begun to explore all of the features available in this app, but as a veteran 3D CAD user I can tell that the most important functionality is in the app, waiting to be discovered. When comprehensive tutorials become available, I would give the app TEN stars (if I could), and I would pay a very hefty ONE TIME FEE (Subscription plans are doomed to fail; TAKE NOTE!), if the app is converted into a paid-product.Sketch 3D is what the iPad has needed for a while now.Sorry, OnShape, 3D Creator, and others like those are stupidly modeled on a “pay-us-forever” plan, and as good as these may perform, the hobbyist is not going to pay for a subscription, even if they can afford it, like I can, since I won’t buy-in to any software subscription plan, EVER!

Hard to rate

I have been doing AR art design for awhile now and have tried pretty much every app related to 3D design. This app had me so excited because of its features, unfortunately it is not intuitive. I usually pick up basics of apps pretty fast but not here. For starters my works view is only displayed and usable on half of my screen. And the tool bar on the left has rows with information in them but for some reason it does not show up displayed so I have to blindly guess what I’m clicking. I’ve tried using the help bubbles but it still won’t allow me to do anything other than view my objects. If I could get this to work at fraction of what it is supposed to do I will be more than satisfied, but I fear I’m going to have to take weeks to figure it out while opportunities pass me by. I’m not saying this is a bad app, I’m just wishing there was a possibility for me to utilize it.

Sketch 3D is a tool for designing 3D models from your fingertips. You could download models from others, and could also share your great designs with other users by saving models in Public space. New feature: Use True Depth Camera to capture face model.

New feature: Support using video as model texture. You could use video clips from Photo Album, or from Internet URL (YouTube URL not supported), and then apply it onto a model as texture map. New feature: Capture movie from the 3D scene. Note! If your device could not capture movie, then, could try out a smaller output resolution (by tapping the control pane). However, arbitrary output size may stop capturing prematurely. New feature: Design 3D model animation with skeleton structure. You could design a skeleton structure by placing bones in hierarchical relation. Attach model to the skeleton, and then moving the bones to define different poses. Each pose represented as a keyframe in the timeline view. And animation sequence is produced by playing interpolation between the keyframes.
