Great game with a paywall and many bugs that can ruin the experience

The game is for the most part, a really well crafted and an enjoyable experience, even from the small amount of gameplay you get for free (curse these new models for games to make money). You have to have a good amount of patience to get through the tutorials, and once you get a few scenarios down, a sort or analytical rhythm should be forming that’ll make the experience really fun and fulfilling. If the app icon didn’t make it apparent, this game acts like tabletop rpg games except without game masters and the imagination of players, but if you’re looking into tabletop gaming, this could be a good place to get settled into the dice, character, and turn mechanics that many games have. My biggest gripe about the game is the many bugs that pop up very randomly when i’m making plays that should save me some damage or get me a much needed item. Sometimes revealing a shield won’t give the said effect, or an enemy’s roll for damage won’t be affected by what their card says. It can be a little disheartening to see mechanics of the game switch and break, for almost no apparent reason. All in all, this is a very solid card rpg, that definitely deserves a try if you’re willing to put some careful thought into.

Needs a ftp option.

This game has loads of potential, but is only pay to play past the tutorial and first mission. Literally everything costs real money to unlock...additional characters (past the first 2), missions, etc. etc. Very, VERY disappointing from a pen-and-paper rpg company that is open source for all of their pen-and-paper content and whose developers and authors allegedly left Wizards of the Coast due to their constant rebooting in pursuit of gold pieces. This is an especially awful example as everything has a cost. Nickel and dimes foreverThis game has loads of potential and could have an easy fix by initiating a daily energy allotment for free-to-play players. As a general rule I ABSOLUTELY will not spend money on games that have no possible ftp option. It’s my way of returning the foul solo digit offered by pay-to-play/win only games.

Great game - a bit of a grind... but in a good way

A great game... it will be annoying at times due to failing high percentage chance dice rolls... but remember, it’s a dice chucking game, and if you roll 100 times, a 90% chance should fail 10 of those times. Once you get into the groove of the game, you know when to expend that extra blessing to increase the chance and when to accept a guaranteed failure.I went ahead and purchased Rise of the Runelords since I was having fun and felt a good game deserved the purchase, and feel it was worth it. I have had many hours of enjoyment playing different parties of characters, going back and rerunning the earlier scenarios so I can improve all the characters I like. And each character plays differently based on their powers and card options. Also, unlocking roles (after completing deck 3 with a character) opens up more options to customize.

Very enjoyable Game!

Downloaded this game not expecting too much. Boy was I wrong! The graphics are superb and content is fresh and new each battle. It’s true that the tutorial is a bit long, but it is needed to get the most out of the game. I love that you can be in the middle of a battle, and you suddenly need to close the game for some unexpected reason and when you reopen, you are exactly where you left off!. You can play for one minute or 5+ hours (like I have before), and it’s a new challenge every time. The game does give you small amounts of gold for closing each small area, and new cards to use or sell for 1 gold each. It is a bit of a grinch game but that is what I like. I have spent some money on gold and a few chests. Guaranteed high level items in 1 of 4. Get this game if you want something to do to fill the gaps in your bus ride, waiting at the Dr. Office or just chilling in bed before sleeping. Just a fun game!

Novice and idiot beware.

I just started playing dnd and it’s confusing but I have a good teacher (DM) to show me the ropes. Maybe I’m an idiot or lack the attention to pay attention but this game is very very confusing; before, during, and after the tutorial. I feel like I’m just throwing cards here and there and everywhere. I play card A: I die. Okaaay so I play card B: I die. Alright.....card C has to be it: Nope dead. I suppose I could spend a whole weekend just sitting there reading every card to figure it all out but that won’t fix the fact that burying a card (the chain thing in the top left too) and discarding and this and that and this and what not, it’s just super confusing and I didn’t care much for the very long tutorial that got me nowhere.I’ll catch a ton of flak from the diehards that eat sleep and breathe this game but that’s okay.I’ll always have dnd and a DM in person to show me what the heckin’ I’m looking at and what I’m supposed to do and why.

Problem solved

Update2/4/18: The game has been fixed on my end. The problem was equal parts user error and the game being glitchy. However, I can now play the game and all of my purchased content is working. I would recommend this game to anyone who wants a challenge and likes card games2/2/18: When this game worked it was easily a 4 Star game. As of writing this I can not connect to the game servers or the in game store or any of the content I purchased with my real money. I have tried multiple times to get in contact with the tech support for this game with no response I return. I hope in the future I can leave a more positive review in the future, but I am truly disappointed that I can’t play this game, and the developers don’t seem to care...

I’d love to like it, but...

The idea of the game is great, there is a lot of depth to the game that could really get you hooked. There is more than enough in the free game that could easily satisfy my needs and be a great game. They have a wide variety of expansions and characters for purchase using real money. The big problem for me, is even after going through a lengthy tutorial, there’s a clunky character stats that makes me not understand how to properly play the game. Instead of a “Strength 4, Dexterity 7” it’s a “strength d12” and items with give you “+1d3” So I don’t know if I should use a bow that gives me “+1d6+1” or an item called “dart” that gives me “+1d4” Because I have no idea what items to use and which to discard, unless that changes, I won’t be making any purchases or spending time on this game.

Plays just like the card game

I see a lot of reviews on here that are complaining about a pay wall and it’s unfair to rate a great game with low stars based on that factor alone. Most games on IOS are pay to play these days. It’s just a fact of life now so instead of complaining about the fact you have to pay to unlock additional scenarios let’s focus on how many positive notes this game hits. (I’d also like to mention that the actual tabletop Pathfinder Adventure Card Game requires you to pay for each additional scenario as an expansion so this is no different other than you get to play the first three missions for FREE in this version)So here are the pros:-Plays exactly like the tabletop version-great graphics and cards are detailed -actually adds more storyline with cut scenes making it feel more like an adventure and less random -you don’t have to remember all of the rules associated with each card which makes things much easier -feels like an actual campaign -Game mechanics work well Cons:-it’s a little clunky if you haven’t played the table top version so may take some time to understand the nuances and game mechanics In closing I would like to see some of the expansions developed in the iOS version as this is a great adaptation of the tabletop version

tl;dr Game is buggy

Don't get me wrong I love the game. It's just that it when you play certain cards from the later modules they don't operate how the text says they do. Like there's this one legendary club that when you reveal it to deal damage the game will make you discard a card for it's discard effect. And when you select it's discard effect it discards the card itself instead of another card like it says on the text. These bugs are consistent on such cards and are something I get used to. But it's when very specific game interaction happens when the game itself decides to make exceptions to how such interactions are supposed to work. Like when I'm up against a specific enemy and fail the check to use spells against it, it doesn't let me make the same check next turn like it normally does for every other enemy with the same line of text. But if you got all the patience in the world to overlook these things and try to work around these bugs it's a pretty good game otherwise.

Complex and interesting strategy game with a story

I am loving this game. I had Pathfinder card game at home but it wasn’t as much fun when we had to spend so much time on figuring out the rules. I love that this takes out the work and lets me have fun. I really enjoy the strategy of the card deck building and the choice of characters/location. It usually takes me a few tries to win a scenario, to get to know it and plan for it. I love the challenge. It is one of the few iPad games that I enjoy the playing of itself, rather than the enjoyment of “winning” or “gacha” aspects where you are collecting heroes or whatnot. In this game, I really enjoy the whole experience. I purchased the entire set of adventures, which is well worth it for the price, especially if you enjoy the introduction. The story/dialogue is brief but funny and enjoyable too. I am getting attached to my heroes! It did take me some time to really understand all the rules but that’s part of the fun.

Description

Pathfinder Adventures, the digital adaptation of Paizo Inc.'s Pathfinder Adventure Card Game, translates the world's best-selling Pathfinder Roleplaying Game into an entirely new breed of card game, where players cooperatively battle monsters and villains, and acquire new feats, items, weapons and allies. The game can be played solo, or with other adventurers using built-in pass-and-play functionality. Pathfinder Adventures is free to download and play, however, some game items can be purchased for real money. If you don't want to use this feature, please disable in-app purchases in your device's settings. A network connection is required to earn in game currency during play.
