Unbalanced Slay the Spire

If you’ve even looked in the general direction of Slay the Spire and then played this game, you can tell this is just a reskinned version, on the phone. The app is very bad at explaining what types of cards there are, debuffs and buffs, and general game knowledge so players must figure it out for themselves. Another gripe that I have is that there are many effects which *seem* similar to Slay the Spire-like effects, however many of these are a far less thought out effect. One in particular that comes to mind is a variety of monster (I believe it is referred to as a red ogre?) that appears in a boss fight (read: slaver fight). The enemy reduces your maximum strength permanently about every third turn. This is a permanent debuff which can cause you to just stall. Clearly this is just a poor rip of Slay the Spire. The only reason it gets a star over 1 is because the app isn’t visually bad, or buggy, just poor in game quality.

UNBALANCED SLAY THE SPIRE RIP OFF

This game is ok for a free mobile game but it just isn’t balanced. Half the time you get through the first few fights and reach the act 1 boss just to get destroyed by it. Only every 1 in 10 of my runs actually start working and get to the act 2 boss or beyond. On top of all that the enemies don’t feel like they would all be together when you are jumping from DnD monster, to Pokémon, Harry Potter, and then to random other things just thrown in to be the equal monster from STS. Finally it is extremely grindy as I have been playing about a week and I still don’t have the second character unlocked. YOU ARE BETTER OFF PAYING THE $8 FOR SLAY THE SPIRE THAN DO THIS GAME WERE THEY WANT 20+ DOLLARS TO UNLOCK THE FULL GAME WITHOUT SPENDING HOURS AND HOURS TO FULLY UNLOCK EVERYTHING IN IT.

Solid game, just a few visual problems

I very much enjoy how versatile the cards and play styles are. Some really good synergies with the right combination of cards and relics. I would like to see a way to look at your deck and relics between fights, also during so you can see your discard/depleted piles. Another problem I have is with the curse that gives cards fading, not the mechanic but the fact that “fading” is on the bottom of the card. I think it should be on the top, so you can see it at a glance. Or maybe have the card outlined differently to show the fading effect.

Amazing

This game is incredibly fun. I’ve been playing. It on and off for a while now. I like how well designed it is for mobile compared to slay the spire and I enjoy the combat a little better than the former game as well. The only thing I wish would happen for this game is a custom run setting as I’ve pretty much peaked at torment 19 and haven’t been able to progress past that, and won’t be able to unless I get really good luck for the whole run.

Love this game, would love to spend money on it

I can no longer click buttons on the game unless it's to die. I was level 15 with the warrior and it just..., Stopped working. Can't watch ads, can't buy to unlock anything. I just deleted and redownloaded and all it did was delete all my data. I was trying to unlock all because I wanted to play as the next class but nope.Well, at least now I have a reason to play again since I have to reopen all those cards. But it's annoying when I LITERALLY want to give you money and the game won't let me.

Great game

Passes the time easily and is very challenging at times, i wish there were more classes and cards and leveling passed 20 meant something. A stat boost or whatever. Easy game to learn it can be irritating when playing and you’re constantly closing the app, since you pull the cards where you minimize the application. I also wish you could build your deck and go on further than just the 3 chapters. I get the rogue style and it makes it all the more challenging and fun, but just an option to see how far your deck can go.

Game changing

This game is very well made. The mechanics are super simple, but still require strategizing. The animation style is cool and unique. The story is interesting and random encounters few truly unique. After every level you get to pick a new card essentially being able to build your deck entirely on your own, which will allow you to build some very powerful hands. No payment is required and leveling up will unlock the next class if you don’t want to pay. This game is very good and has occupied a lot of my time! I would highly recommend this game.

Custom starting load outs would be nice

This game is a lot of fun but i wish you could customize starting load outs. The farther into the torment levels you get the harder enemies will hit and you will have a very hard time staying alive. The fact that each victory grants 3 random cards ... from 70!! makes building a strong mid and late game deck really just luck. Not being able to start a base deck and build off that means you will simply play rounds and hope the cards you get will combine well together. Most often they don't and you will get crushed. This is, imo, the biggest weakness. There are some solid decks you can build but from the beginning the only thing that determines if you can build a certain deck is dumb luck. Card wins don't really compliment each other in a deck of +70 cards chosen at random. A customizable starting load out would change the approach of each game cycle completely. This is a solid game and i have a lot off fun with it. Load outs can become totally epic and you crush all in your path if you play smart. Unfortunately that happens like 1/10 times.

I’m dropping 2 stars for one big reason

I absolutely love this game. It’s fantastic, and once you get a really solid deck going it’s an absolute blast to play. Here’s where I take issue. You’ll get an awesome deck, and then the dungeon just ends. You don’t get to keep your cards, all you get is some Xp and a new, harder level. It just sets you back to square one. That’s the fatal, fatal flaw of this game. If I could save a deck, or edit my starting deck, this game would easily be a 6 star game in my opinion. But the fact that you just start over with the same stats on everything on the beginning levels as you do the hardest levels, it’s not really fun. There’s not really a progression arc.

Really good potential!

So I found this when I was checking on the app store to see if Slay the Spire had a mobile version, and figured I’d give this a go. Was definitely impressed. It still seems like it’s in fledgling stages, but they’ve got a good system set up. In the future I’d love to see more characters with more playstyles, but there’s still a solid amount of variety in the game already. The ads are minimal and relatively non-intrusive, which is much appreciated.Keep up the good work, look forward to future updates!
