What is the frequency of the updates? Seems the most value would be real-times, but this seems to be updated every other day. Would also be great to get an alert when there are updates. Otherwise I like the app a lot.
This app is simple and straightforward. It’s pretty easy to use. It’s interesting and useful to see where sharks have been sighted. That said, I don’t see any way to switch to a labeled map. The app uses an unmarked satellite map. If you are a geography wiz or otherwise very familiar with maps and/or the area you may know at a glance what town and beach you are looking at. I found myself cross referencing another map to see where the sightings were.
This app is easy to use. My only wish is that the app was not blue in color blends in with the sea of all my other apps that are mostly blue. Bright orange would be great.
If I had rated this last summer (2019), I would have selected 4-5 stars. This summer has minimal information. Last summer at least had some type of info besides the word sighting. Since the locations on the map don’t indicate exactly where, that should be included as well as how deep the water was and any other pertinent information.
Good app especially for cape cod! I find sharks very interesting animals of the sea and I love shark week. This is from the Atlantic White Shark Conservation and shark week had a few episodes where researchers were there in cape cod and some of the guys (Greg Skomal) were wearing some stuff that had the AWSC on it. I thought that it was really cool.
We go to Cape Cod every summer (we’ve been doing so for the past 11 years, do check out Wellfleet!), and sharks are always a concern, especially for my aunt. This app is great for staying on top of all the sharktivity (hehe) happening in the area, and even helps us time when we go to the beach so that we can actually swim when we get there! (You can’t go in the water 1 hour after being pulled out of the ocean due to a shark) Highly recommend!!!!
Great concept, super interesting, but the videos and pictures of shark sightings are 50/50 whether or not they’ll show up. The app is also very limited beyond just looking at a plain map and seeing where things took place. Not much substance beyond that
Just noticed your app seems broken, no results are shown. The app opens ok, but after that, nothing! I downloaded the whale app and the same thing happened, nothing. All your apps need to be updated! Running iOS 14.4 on my iPad.
Sharks are extremely important to the oceans ecosystem and planet they help keep our oceans clean, people fear sharks to think they’re man eaters but they’re not. Fear has clouded our judgment and we need to evolve, we need to have a better job of respecting sharks and other wildlife and understanding them and maybe in time we no longer have to fear them and love them like family, and family means no one gets left behind💙🦈🙂
Seems like this app is good at tracking sharks and sightings by there aren't that many tracked sharks overall. Interesting tool and will become better the more sharks are tagges with trackers.
Atlantic White Shark Conservancy's supports scientific research, improves public safety, and educates the community to inspire conservation of Atlantic White Sharks. The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy Sharktivity App provides information on White Shark sightings, detections, movements, and research to raise awareness and help people and White Sharks co-exist peacefully. Use the app to view sightings or submit your own!
