Conflicting Feelings

I grew up with this game, and the sheer awesome factor of having it in my pocket almost makes up for its obvious shortcomings. That said, it could have been done better. The sound could have been upgraded, and the controls, though usable, look awful and really detract from what is on screen. Plenty of RPGs are on iOS with an appear-when-you-touch-the-screen control scheme that doesn’t get in the way of visuals. The buttons also just aren’t designed well. Add that to the screen size problem with two sizable bars on either side, and you’re looking at a very small area of gameplay. Its obvious they just pushed this through as fast as possible, and not for a cheap price. I would think a simple-ish update would fix these problems. There’s already an HD version available, at least the resolution could have been better. Bottom line: beyond excited to have the game, it looks and plays awkward.

Nostalgic...But

As an Avid FFVII Player I Will Start Off By Saying The Actual Gameplay of This is Great, I Have No Issues With Freezes or Lag Hits or Anything as Some of the Previous Reviews Stated (Which Really Kept Me Cautious to Buying This...) However, as the Newer Editions of this Game Come Out (Via PS4/iPhone) They Like to Keep Adding 'Easy Buttons' to the Game. I Personally Think They are Ruining the Game... The Good News is Though, You Don't HAVE to Use Them.If You are a First-Time FF7 Player, I Really Suggest Not Playing This Version to Start Off, the New Age of Gamers Tend to Have a LOT Less Patience with Games, and That Being Said, with the Difficult-to-Use D-Pad and the As-Always Screwed Up Help Box (Not Labeling Ladders and Doors Correctly, Gotta Love Squaresoft xD) It Will Be Very Difficult to Navigate If You Have Zero Idea What You Are Doing. My Only True Dislike About this Rip is the D-Pad, It Seems Very Difficult to Hit the Left Arrow at Times and Gets Pretty Aggravating in a Battle Trying to Click the Correct Spell. Other than that Issue, I Personally Enjoy this Overall.

YESSS!!!!!!!

Final Fantasy VII has always been my favorite Final Fantasy game and I was really surprised to see that it was available as an app.. and for the WHOLE GAME!!! I was hesitant at first at downloading it because 1) I knew it was going to take up my spare time b/c I'll be playing it all the time, 2) I won't be able to use a full controller, 3) People were complaing about autosaving, and 4) People said that it would freeze in some parts. After playing the game, it seems that they fixed all these problems! The game autosaves on most parts of the game for you, the on screen controls adjust to how you want them to be set up (what do you expect for a full game condensed to an iPhone app), and plus, you'll get used to the controller. The game also has not freezed on me on any parts! The nostalgia! You'll get to experience everything all over again as a kid growing up with this game!!!!!

Port is Stupid

This review I’m writing is not about the game itself but the port. This port is the least impressive final fantasy port I have played. I have been impressed with all the other ones. If you put your phone to sleep or turn off your screen for any decent amount t of time the game will just go back to the menu. Usually this wouldn’t t be an an issue but the port doesn’t even have a functioning auto save feature that works. The other ports I have played from the other final fantasy’s on the phone do. In 9 it autosaves from ever room transfer. In 5 it suspend saves every map or foe or town transfer. This game, has an option to turn on that doesn’t even work. This port was not freaking designed with being on a phone in mind. You literally have to devote enough time to get from save point to save point to be able to play this game. I’m not impressed. If you wanna play 7 but you want it on the go, don’t get this one. Break out your old psp and download it off of the PlayStation network and at least you can put the game to sleep and come back to it. Jesus Christ please fix this.

Hate the controls, no auto save

I am a very big fan of all the RPG remakes such as previous final fantasy games and dragon quest games. But this is the only game that I am growing frustrated with the controls on. Just getting your character to move in a specific direction takes some concentration. Then I'm passing by so many items and materia because I can't freakin see it on the screen. No indicators. If you never played this game (like me) you will be lost. Thankfully I can turn on indicators for doors and such. This game looks like I am looking at the PS1. Hate those graphics. Then there is no freakin autosave or I just can't figure it out. I played the game for about 30 min straight going through cut scenes and all. I get a text message and view the message real quick and reply. I go back to the game and it's at the startup of the app again and all was lost. Final fantasy V to me is a better remake than this game is and I just played that for the first time as well. I hope FF9 is better than this.

Better than you’d think

This have never crashed on my phone, i can minimize it to do other things including check online for a walkthrough. I thought when i bought this that the controls might be janky but the truth is that they are very smooth. The game even lets you choose between joystick styles. The game allows you to turn off random battles if you like which i enjoy to save time when revisiting lower level areas that really have no impact on my overall play through. Also, the game will let you skip level grinding all together and allow you to max out all your characters and money at once. I don’t recommend that unless you just want to play through for the mini games and storyline. However for some players that’s a valuable time saving feature. This is a fantastic game and my favorite from the series. Well worth having it on your phone. No ads or anything since you’re buying the game outright.

Great Port

This is a port of the PC version. Graphics are still what the were on the PS1 but slightly smoother. Controls are just fine for it and work really well. The auto save for when you enter a new area/world map is awesome if your phone dies or you accidentally close the app while its in the background. If you liked PS1 era RPG's, Final Fantasy games, or were a fan of this from before it's a must buy. The auto max level booster is great if you have beaten the game before and just want to experience the story gain. However this does not affect materia so you will still need to level that up. All in all a great port. I gave it 4 stars because as others noted it slows down on the World Map after you move for more than 5 seconds. This is fixed by quickly entering the menu and exiting quick. But you shouldn't have to do that.

Great game but…

As mentioned in the title it’s a great game ive played it on almost every platform it’s come out on and loved it every single time however I just here recently played it on the ps4 and it completely ruined it on any other console and not for the reason you’re thinking it was indeed the original not the sorry excuse of a remake it’s the 3x speed option it makes everything so much easier and much less time consuming so I’d really love if y’all could figure out a way to make that happen if not I’ll still play the game of course I just don’t have much time to sit there and grind away on random battles and the like to max out my materias or build up money and experience so it’ll take a much much longer time so yeah I’d love to see a 3x speed option please

One of the best games ever, but one problem

Final Fantasy VII is one of the best video games of all time, and there's nothing different about it in this mobile port except for one thing. That says a lot right there! But that begs the question: what is the one problem this game has? Auto saving. This game NEEDS an auto saving mechanic. When you play a good RPG, you play it for HOURS, and this is one of those cases. However, chances are, if you're so in the game and can't stop playing. You'll likely be having an experience so unreal that you'll forget to save in the long run. That being said, if you die and you haven't saved for a while or at all, then you're going to have to start the game all over again. Which will be very frustrating, rage insisting, annoying, and disappointing. And shockingly enough (sarcasm) this happened to not only myself, but to basically every other person who played this port. So please, game developers, add this feature.

As good as the ps version

This game is awesome and brings back memories to when I played it on the PlayStation. So many reviews about the controls being frustrating, but it's actually not a big deal at all. I use analog mode and it works fine. I would take caution when going from the game app to other apps, especially if not resuming game play asap, because sometimes it triggers the game to reset to the title screen, but just make sure to save before exiting the app and there's nothing to worry about. The only issue I have is a little glitch where, when in the highwind cabin and talking to the pilot to take off, the screen goes black for some time just to bring me back to the same cabin screen, where I'll have to talk to the pilot again...and then it takes me to the map screen where I can fly around. I wonder if this can be fixed with the next update. Awesome game.
