Fantastic port

Beamdog did a fantastic job porting this over. Any bugs have been squashed and it plays great on my 13 Max Pro - they also ensured we had file access so we could even install any mods we want that work for EE. Currently playing Swordflight, a purportedly difficult module, and I have no problems progressing on the smaller screen. You may need to pause more often compared to PC to avoid a misclick, and persistent worlds may be more difficult on account of being unable to pause, but for a game with NWN’s scope … it is terrific that I can play something like this on the go. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a solid game on the iPhone beyond puzzles and idle genres.

Great game, good port, UX issues, slow updates

First: the game is great, if dated. I won’t review the game itself here as there is plenty out there about it. Short version: it’s great. The port to iOS is mostly good. The major feature of NWN, custom modules and content, is supported just the same as the PC version, though you will have to jump through a few hoops with iTunes file sharing for all but the simplest modules. The bad is the interface, which is woefully unacceptable on my iPad at least. The hot bar is drawn to the very edge of the screen and often fails to register taps. You must either choose between the chat/combat log OR the menu buttons. You can’t have both. The original is HEAVILY designed for a two-button mouse, which of course is impossible on the iPad, so right-click is emulated with a long tap. And you need to right click. All. The. Time. A “smart click” that right-clicked on single tap for certain interactions would have been lovely. The iOS version is also quite far behind the PC in version number. Which is to be expected to some extent, but with no updates published in over two months, I’m beginning to wonder.

Can’t believe I’m playing Layonara on my IPad

Neverwinter nights was a great online role-playing game based in the Dungeons and Dragons universe. They really did an exceptional job of capturing the idea of Dungeons and Dragons in a video game. Even better, when everyone started developing persistent worlds that you could play on! But then Wizards, stopped supporting after about 15 years, and a lot of those persistent worlds went dark. But fortunately, an excellent role-playing-based one is still up and running, among quite a few others actually, and it is truly an amazing experience. Layonara was first and foremost developed by role players for role players. There’s plenty of smashing and bashing and of course crafting, to be done as well, but it’s a great place to go IC and stay there for a little while! The players there are so nice and enjoyable to be with. Solid RPers! I played all those years ago, and then put it down when wizards stopped supporting, but I’m back again, playing on my iPad, and I’m loving every minute of it. If you’re looking for a good RP server, give Layonara a try, they make very good use of the Neverwinter nights engine! More information can be found at Discord, at Layonara, so you can get the password and get your character created. (You’ll need to create a little backstory for him or her, but if you like RP as much as I do, you will surely enjoy it!)I’m loving it! David AKA Brutus Clawfoot

One of the Best old school RPG’s ever made!

I have played Never Winter Nights going way back, owning the 2002 Big Box version of the game. Funny that back then, NWN really taxed my windows system with the breakthrough 3D graphics. Now we have this amazing game on mobile! Excellent port of Never Winter Nights to mobile devices. It plays just as the original PC version. A huge thank you to Beamdog/Overhaul games in bringing these Gems to new generations. Also, I was having some issues with running the game on an iPad mini2. All of a sudden; the game runs smooth with no crashes. This is Devs listening to the players. Optimization, tweaks have made this game open to older iOS apple products. So much appreciated, and thank you!

10 Star version of a classic

The mages at Beam dog/Overhaul have crafted a wonderous thing! This rework of the classic BioWare game is perfect. I have gladly picked up Planescape, BG 1&2, and Icewind Dale from the same creators, and they are fantastic. This EE is beyond even those reworks. The game play/ controls are easy & the graphics capture the feel of the original while polishing some of the rough edges that were there due to the limitations of early 2000s tech. The in app purchases are well worth the $, as they expand the game further and let the player enjoy other parts of Faerun. Now if Beamdog can get Wizards to let them convert classic D&D modules to expansion packs for NN:EE, then there will truly be magic left in the world.

Great Port with Minor Issues

I started playing this game on the iPad because I like the portability factor. I played it when it originally came out and seems pretty true to the original. I like the setting but it is a little static because it’s a relatively early crpg game. The main issue I have is that I bought all of the premium modules, but I can’t seem to get them to install. All I get is a white box with a line with only the word cancel in it. Is there something I am missing or is there another program that has to be install. All of the premium modules now say install but they won’t. I think this iPad port has great potential. I really like that the classics have been ported to this platform.Updated Review. I can download all the DLC but tyrants of moonsea. It just stops downloading around 6 or 7 seconds and then asks me to install again. The game plays great and the touch screen seems to work well but it was a little confusing at first when you are used to PC edition. It is really nice having this as a game on the iPad.Correction: Managed to install after 7th time trying. I look forward to playing it.

So far so good !

EDIT: Thank you development for your response! However, I don’t see how to move the menu bar to the side . I have tried dragging it, that doesn’t work. I can’t find anything in the game options. When I click to show chat, the menu bar just disappears . My biggest complaints so far is that I can’t have the chat bar and the quick menu bar open at the same time. By this, I mean the text info on hit rolls and damage, experience , etc must be closed to have the bar that includes the buttons for inventory, character , quick save, journal etc. This causes a lot of switching back and forth . If there is a way to do this that I’m unaware of or if it’s fixed I’ll change this to a 5 star rating .

Soooo GOOD even with the bugs

It’s new and it’s bound to have issues. I hate that some people give low star ratings to newer games they’re scaring away prospective players and not giving enough credit to this masterpiece of a game. I’ve been dying waiting for another Baldur’s Gate-esk game to come out on iOS, and this does not disappoint! With hours of exploration and quests what more could you ask for? I’m not a “gamer” necessarily so I appreciate the adjustable difficulty settings. Are there bugs? Yes, like for example, an item that is needed to move forward in a quest is not in the chest or on the person that it’s supposed to be on. While I’m sure these issues will be fixed as the developers are made aware, at this point I don’t mind starting all over again with the hopes that the bug won’t happen in a new game. By far my favorite developer’s and game series!

Bad bug support team

I really liked this game as a kid. One of the parts that always fascinated me is you can make your own levels (at least on computer versions). That means unlimited play time so long as the community keeps coming up with content. And this game has been around a long time and there are people converting old content to work on enhanced edition. With that being said; my main gripe is with the bug support team response time. I made a request days ago and I haven’t received a single response from support staff. Not even a “hey we seen this, we’ll send over someone to look into this as soon as possible.” It seems they care more about money from sales than actually making sure you can finish a play through on a story you’re invested in.

Very good for pc to IOS conversion

The PC version is still way better than the phone/tablet version, but it is very good for what it is. No ads and minimal in game purchases that mirror the PC version. Biggest draw back is that the character and screen view are way easier to control on PC and the larger screen on PC is much more fun. All that being said, the conversion to IOS from PC preserved and adapted most game functions in an understandable and intuitive way that makes picking up the game easy. One other draw back is that modules u purchased on PC seem to need to be bought again for IOS. Would be nice if those and your own custom modules just preloaded from steam onto IOS and characters too. While there seems to be a work around for tablet, there does not seem to be for iPhone. Still an awesome platform conversion!
