Needs more work

I installed solar panels and home battery backup with a solarEdge controller a year ago, and have been using this app since then. The app works well in providing information on energy flow between the different component (house, panels, battery). As far as controlling the system, it is buggy and lacks in functionality. It only has a crude control on how much reserve power the battery should maintain and for how long. Even this feature is buggy, because occasionally it “forgets” the setting, and puts the system on 30% and it stays that way until you find out and fix it. No warnings or notifications are given (Happened 3-4 times since i installed the system). Basically you can’t trust it to maintain the settings. It also does not provide any way to program the system to use the battery backup (instead of the grid) during hours in which electricity is more expensive. It makes its own decisions when to use the battery, which usually make no sense. For example, it will drain the battery during the night when electricity rates are actually the cheapest.I would recommend to avoid solarEdge if you plan to install a home battery backup. For solar panels only it is ok.

Could be so much better

I recently discovered my system had not been producing any energy, and this app made it difficult to realize. From one month to the next, the scale of the graph went from KWh to Wh in no conspicuous way. The scale change made it look as if the minuscule production was on par with the previous month’s. I only noticed when I looked at the year view that the last few months were blank in comparison to the first months. If this app had a notification capability for alerting when production is low, that would be a game changer for troubleshooting when a system has issues. There really isn’t any other way to know. Perhaps even a two-month comparison view to the previous month.

Working So Far

Brought my panels online 3 days ago and so far so good. What would be really nice to have is the ability to see how much power is being sent back to the grid. So much info provided by the inverter but I can’t seem to find any references as to what everything means. The app gives me most of what I need. I do have two suggestions: 1 - I would love to see how much power we are putting back into the grid or a breakdown of what the ratio of produced power and power purchased. 2 - I like to see is the amount of daylight in a day. Other than those two wishes, I couldn’t be happier.

Too much whitespace; not enough information

I use an iPad and a desktop computer to monitor system performance. The displays in this app, with their huge amounts of wasted empty space, seem designed for an Apple Watch. There are multiple pages to switch between, and scroll to, and all of the information available on those pages could have been adequately displayed on, at most, a couple of pages. The home display, for example, which probably resulted in high fives among the designers and developers when they were congratulating each other on how *pretty* it was, uses several million pixels, including a high-resolution picture of a bunch of framed solar panels, to convey five pieces of non-static information, which could easily fit on *one* line of text. The important information — current power, and daily energy — comprises maybe a dozen characters, which are swimming in a sea of useless white space. Updating is flaky. There’s system information that is cryptic and unexplained. Navigation is somewhat confusing, with some pages that look too much like each other.Somebody in charge should read Edward R. Tufte’s “The Visual Display of Quantitative Information”, and then find a couple of electrical engineers to help design the app’s displays. Stay away from people whose resumes start with credentials about “Web design” and “User experience.”

Good App, Needs to Add Maintenance Alerts

I’ve had my system for several years now and I’m generally happy with the app and my solar PV system. However, 2 years in a row now I have experienced significant system failures. Last year a wind storm knocked out power to my home for several days. When the power was restored, my system failed to restart. I didn’t realize this until a month and a half later when I went to check my production only to find that I didn’t have any. Then a couple months ago, half of my system went down. An entire node stopped producing, cutting my production in half. Both of these incidents could have been mitigated had the app/system monitored and then notified me of these significant long-term production decreases. Busy homeowners do not have the time to monitor their systems compulsively. The addition of an active notification system would be a big improvement and selling point. Thanks!

Great app, but really needs one minor improvement

This app is great for monitoring my home’s solar production. I love almost everything about it. There is one very small improvement that could be made. On both the iPhone and iPad apps, the part that lists “Last Update - [Date] at [Time]” is in a very small font. If the size of that could be increased so it’s much more easily read, it would make this app pretty much perfect. It’s important to see when the last update came in, because sometimes there may be a problem causing the app to not have received information in a while, so you want to know that at a glance when checking on things.

New version 7/21 is awful!

Why do developers have to change things just to have something to do? The original version was very straight forward and easy to use. Now they’ve made it “cutesy” and more difficult to quickly use. It also changes from landscape to portrait for at least one selection and doesn’t seem to go back to portrait unless the app is closed. The opening screen looks like it was designed for elementary school kids. And why try to stick everything on one page that can’t be really viewed unless the individual selection is expanded to full screen. The revised app is awful on an iPad and nearly unusable on an iPhone.Ditch this version and go back to what was neat, clean and just plain worked!

Horrible

I have had nothing but trouble with this.. the first 2 months were great and after that my productivity has been cut in half and keeps getting less and less with no help from anyone.. you call and they don’t answer the phone.. then when they call you back they reset the system and I still get the same results!!! My productivity now is 1/4 what I was getting the first 2 months.. and in sept my system produced nothing! My app said it did but my electricity bill said I didn’t!! Think twice about getting this system and do your homework!! Solar edge. And Power home solar.. are the companies I used and between paying my monthly electric bill and my monthly payment for the panels I’m now paying about $200 More a month then I was before I had their system!!! So going green was a big mistake!!!! Hope this help others so you don’t get screw by these companies that basically lie to you about any savings!!!!

Buggy app with typically stale day and poor UI

This app is terrible for a system that cost so much to install. The data is typically stale, for example the physical/logical panel view productions values are almost always wrong stuck at incorrect values. I’ve contacted support multiple times and they seem to be having recurring backend system issues. The main UI is unintuitive with just yesterdays peak production level shown, no comparative production overlay, or way of viewing the running weekly/monthly average daily production. Most graphs show relative bars without the numerical production value shown in an obvious way requiring clicking on each bar in turn. You can usually see the current production and that’s about it, and there are other apps with better, more intuitive UI for just that.

Pretty good, Sense is better

If you have SolarEdge this app is a must for providing basic information on your system’s output and health in near real-time (about 15 minute delay). Displays and history are useful but very limited. Scales and timeframes are fixed and not adjustable. And if you have a display on your inverter, some data is not available in the app, so you are forced to use the physical display on the inverter. If you want to have a complete view in real-time of your solar production and power usage, I really love my Sense-Solar. For a onetime purchase you get a lifetime of real-time monitoring of solar production and grid usage, with pretty good info on what devices are consuming power in your home.
