Cannot get past the voice acting for Gabriel

Played the original version of this on my pc many moons ago and loved it so I thought I’d give this one a try. All I can say is was Gabriel such a revolting sleaze in the first game? I remember him as being borderline sometimes, but mostly a decent and likeable character - maybe it was how Tim Curry voiced the character, maybe changes in dialog - IDK. What I do know is I absolutely cannot stand him or the slimey way he is voiced in this version - only made it a few scenes in and could not take it anymore. Other voice acting as far as I got seemed fine. Great game but I cannot recommend this version - get the original from GOG and play that.

Good port, great game.

I debated four stars or five. This was one of my childhood favorites, so I'm partial to it. I think the story and writing are far above average, and remind me that before the age of flashy graphics and high framerates, writing mattered. That said, this is very much a point and click adventure. This genre does not appeal to everyone. It isn't always apparent what you should do next, but the hint system is good. If you liked the other Sierra titles from the 1990s, you will like this. Well worth a download. The first part is free, and the rest appears to cost about ten bucks, as you must purchase different segments separately.

Straight from my childhood

First thing I wanna say is about the voice actor who's doing Gabriel. I saw someone else's review complaining about his voice acting. After hearing him.... He's actually doing a pretty accurate representation of what the great Tim Curry, who originally did the voice, sounded like.I love this remake, and I've already purchased the second part. I absolutely loved this series as a teenager, and it's so great to play through this first one again. I'm hoping they bring out 2 and 3 also! For anyone who enjoyed the original.... I strongly recommend this. If you're new to the genre, this is a very well written and detailed story that starts a bit slow as you're learning the characters and premise of the series... But this game ramps up nicely and gets very dark, and very suspenseful by the end. Give this game a shot if you're at all interested in the classic PC point and click adventure games from the late 80s and 90s.

This game is amazing!

I grew up on Sierra games in the mid 90's and the Gabriel Knight trilogy was by far my favorite. It still has all of it's charm and thanks to this game I finally decided to visit New Orleans for the first time last year. I've been back 3 times since. I'd love to take a Gabriel Knight tour or maybe I will just make my own... Thanks a million to Jane J for this incredible work of art and to all of the team at Phoenix for their hard work!

Funny, Smart, Atmospheric, Sexy, Scary Masterpiece of a Game!

This is the game to end all games. If you love to be transported to another world when you play a game, then this is it! Gabriel Knight is an incredibly well written game with great characters, and an even better mystery. Set in New Orleans pre-Katrina, Gabriel is a not very successful author and bookstore owner with a wicked sense of humor on the trail of a voodoo murder mystery that quickly becomes very real. The locations are immersive, with tons of detail and interesting things to see and do, and real characters to interact with. The gameplay is natural and easy on the iPad. I envy anyone playing it for the first time!

Classic Adventure Very Well Ported

The tone and mood of this adventure has a really good vibe to it. In 1993, this really raised the bar for what a narrative can do in a game. It holds up very well today because good writing is always good writing.I don’t understand it when little kids get on here and rate it poorly because its file size is large, or yelling RIPOFF because the FREE download contains Day 1 for you to try before you buy. Obviously don’t pay attention to these kids, because this adventure game is great, and you can check it out for free to see for yourself.

Exactly what the App Store needed

I've been missing a REALLY GOOD point and click mystery in the App Store. This is it. I never played this back in the day - I was a kid when it came out and it was too mature for me. I have, however, been a fan of point and click adventure mysteries for years and it's rare to find one with an intriguing story, voice acting, an expansive world, and challenging puzzles. Actual detective work, too! Hands down my favorite mobile game so far. It has a nice built in hint system that only spoils as much of the game as you want it to. My only suggestion would be to make some hotspots farther apart. This appears to be a leftover from the PC version, but precise clicking is not as easy when using one's fingers.

What to say....

I played through all 3 original GK games. As well as all of the games in the Kings Quest and Space Quest series. They are all excellent and worth your time, but Sins of the Father is something special. The other series I mentioned were great fun. Challenging puzzles, large environments to explore and witty and clever writing. All of those elements were present in SotF as well, but it also added a story with real depth and character development. This is the very first game I can remember playing that actually felt like an interactive film. The whole thing worked so well in large part to the exceptional voice acting. Actual speech in games was relatively rare in 1993. Outside of intros and cutscenes, it was almost unheard of. Not only was every line of dialogue voiced, it was done so by the likes of Michael Dorn, Mark Hamill, and Tim Curry! This is where the problem is. The updated graphics are fantastic. As far as I can tell, it is scene for scene, line for line, identical to the original; save for one thing - the cast.No Tim Curry. No Mark Hamill. No Michael Dorn. The new actors aren't bad, but for people that have played the original, it's a glaring omission.Original GK: SotF - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️*GK: SotF 20th SE - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️*Yes, that is 6 stars out of 5. Yes, it is THAT good.

Wonderful

I'm so happy and grateful this game has been resurrected for the iPad! I played it on floppy disks and loved it then and loved it now. It's a real story with real mysteries to solve, varied clues and puzzles, a world of interesting locations to visit and characters to talk to, and just plain fun to play. I was completely engaged. There's a real learning curve to the gameplay, though, and I was helped by an online walkthrough that taught me certain things about how to play. I won't add them here for fear of spoiling. But I nearly deleted the game in the free part because I didn't understand quite how to play. Once I got a few tips, though, I was off and running and spent days with SotF like I would with a good book, always looking forward to getting back to it. Worth every penny of the purchase price to play through to the end! Thank you, developers!

Great port of an old classic

This was a great buy. Gorgeous graphics, not buggy, and challenging puzzles at times. Sometimes I definitely resorted to reading an Internet walk through because it's been so long since I played the original. I agree that the voice acting is pretty humorous. I appreciated that you can see all the interactive parts on the screen, and that the journal can also provide hints. Interesting way of charging for the game; I guess selling it in chunks of days helps not scare people away with an upfront $10+ price tag.
