Works Perfectly

Just spent a day trying to figure out how to use JSON and iCloud drive to save persistent data, only to figure out the default method doesn't work on Apple watch. This app makes me look really stupid. My only gripe is that it doesn't allow device specific variables, which is what I needed. The way I did it was too save the file based on the device name, creating a separate file per device.

Fantastic complement to Shortcuts

Data Jar makes logging information using Shortcuts SO much easier! Before this app I had to append information to a Note or text file, which never really worked well. Now I can set up Shortcuts to keep lists and tallies with ease. My only complaint is that right now the Tip Jar in-app purchases aren’t working, so I can’t show the developer my appreciation!

An absolute must-have for any Shortcuts aficionado

In a bleak world before Data Jar, I had to rely on saving .json files to iCloud for data persistence. Data Jar has fundamentally changed my data storage strategy and has unlocked a whole new series of experiences in Shortcuts. The app is super easy to use and has a beautiful UI. Simon has done a really incredible job with this app and the macOS version of it is perfect. The fact that it's free is wild considering how powerful it can make your shortcuts.

Great with Shortcuts and Automations

Tested this on Mac, iPad, and iOS. Smooth on all three. Provides essential variable and data storage for the Shortcuts app. Essentially allows you to create a local / iCloud database. Easily query your data using menus. Also pairs well with his OTHER app called Scriptable, allowing Javascript-esque data manipulation. Personal experience tip here: learn the differences between working with Lists and with Dictionaries.

Amazing For Developing Shortcuts

I love this app and has enabled an easy way to store and access global variables in shortcuts. The only alternative to this is to write dictionaries to the files app and then reading said file. It’s quick, efficient, and very easy to use. I publish shortcuts on RoutineHub and these have made many of my shortcuts possible. Much much much love to the developers. You guys inspire a future dev

Amazing app...versatile enough for beginners, but essential for iOS shortcuts power users!

Thanks for such an amazing app, I have been on since early in the beta, and the ability to get files and data in and out, essentially having global variables in iOS shortcuts which means that not all of my data has to go back and forth with the online database API that I use but can be stored locally and improves performance tremendously. Also, the JSON language formatting, being able to store audio, files, text, photos is great. And finally, the multi-select and select all options that debuted with the launch helped me clean up all my testing data really quickly. Amazing app, thank you so much!

Simple and Powerful

This is awesome for just keeping data, like notes or anything, but the way that this interacts with shortcuts is amazing. I used to use apple notes and reminders to store my data for shortcuts. This is a million times better. And this app has a lot of actions in shortcuts, which is teaching me even more ways to be efficient. Love it!

Nice but buggy

I love the app so far. But two issues I come across:1. Crash - I would have the app open and going through the pages and the app would crash out of nowhere. 2. When copying text from the Notes app, it would be saved as an image instead of text. Then the app would crash when I try to open up the image.

🍯 So simple and so useful 🥳

For years, I’ve been sticking Shortcuts data in all sorts of places - Files, Reminders, etc. And, yeah, they worked, but not always well and they tended to make my Shortcuts more complicated than they needed to be. First thing I did with DataJar was write some new Shortcuts I’d been thinking about. It was so much easier. And, I really like being able to tweak my saved data easily in the DaraJar app. I’ve now written an old Shortcut to take advantage of DataJar. I’m happy. Tipped! :)

Amazingly Useful

At first, I didn’t see the benefit and usefulness of Data Jar. However, once I started doing more with Shortcuts I quickly discovered it’s amazing potential. I use it to store Data for quick access, almost like a database. I also use it to start flags and timestamps so I can check the status of various things in my Shortcuts or when something last happened. It’s awesome for power users of Shortcuts.
