Nicely done

I originally played it on a Burroughs mainframe in the early 70’s. History is worth preserving.

Flashback or Puzzler it’s All Fun

I took the developer’s suggestion to treat it as a puzzle, having not played the original. It’s been fun puzzling through the operations. That said, I’ve played games of its type in the past and can see an authentic experience for those wishing to revisit the original. Have fun!

Perfect job recreating the TRS-80 game experience!

Awesome game. I fully agree that you should try to figure out how the game moves work without reading the advanced instructions. Made it so much more enjoyable. Thanks for putting in the time to develop!

Retro fun!!

One of the best games ever. Yes it’s basic, the graphics are simple + and you will feel like you back on your TRS80. I bought the full version just to say thanks to the developer. Hours of simple fun

Great recreation of a TRS-80 port.

Pretty good recreation. What would be nice to see would a additional ability to recreate other versions of the game (like the original 1971 edition, it’s original HP BASIC source code is readily available, Super Star Trek or BSD Trek, a C version which is still available in the Debian repos and was converted to macOS) with the same TRS aesthetic.

Trek 80 (aka. Star war)

I love this game! It’s one of my all time favorites! It somehow makes me feel like I’m traversing the galaxy on a seek and destroy mission. Despite its low end “graphics” I find it to be very fun and engaging. A must play for any retro game lover!

Nice job on this retro game!

I originally played a version using a Decwriter, connected to a mainframe with a 300 baud acoustic modem! My only improvement idea for this version is to make the keypad area larger. My fat fingers on the small phone screen can tap the wrong number easily.:D

Fond memories

I grew up on the Texas gulf coast in the mid 1970’s, a son of a NASA contractor. I remember playing a similar game on my dad’s computer prior to the Tandy game system, and the version you have masterfully recreated. I recall some differences in movement commands, but the same basic game. I also remember spending hours as a child, and the excitement when I finally beat the game the first time. Thank you for bringing back a wonderful memory. I look forward to spending time again (much older kid now) solving the puzzles this game provides.

A great trip back!

This game was the magnum opus back in the day.

Description

In the early 1980s, these textual space adventures were very popular on home computers. They were based on the various "Trek" games that had gone before them on mainframes and mini computers. In this version you have 35 stardates to track down and eliminate 7 warbirds.

You can move through the galaxy, perform short and long range scans, and then shoot using lasers or missiles. If you run low of energy or missiles you can dock with a starbase to recharge. This is a loving recreation of the "Space War" BASIC program that ran on the Tandy/Radio Shack TRS-80. The original version was distributed on the demo tape of the EACA Video Genie / System 80, which was a clone of the TRS-80 model 1 level II. This app is a completely new creation that tries to re-create the game as accurately as possible (including all the quirks of the original!) The game is free to play with no adverts. But if you like it, you can help support independent app development by buying one of the optional upgrades. The upgrades are all for silly non-essential things, so if you don't want to spend any money, feel free to just have fun with the complete game :-) Please feel free to get in touch to let me know what you think. As a solo developer, it's always nice to hear from people who like my work! - Richard
