User Reviews for Best Gin Rummy

Terrible algorithms.

First let me say that there's another review here stating the game is flawed because it tends to give you the cards you needed right after you discard because of giving up trying to get a meld. Anyone who has played Gin in RL knows that happens all the time in real Gin games. This game does however, have a very major flaw that makes it far too easy to beat. The AI almost invariably knocks the instant it has ten or less deadwood. As a result, if you simply never knock and consistently discard the highest deadwood, you will win far more hands that you lose, by undercutting the computer and/or going Gin. Sadly unrealistic. A good Gin game shouldn't be so easy to beat using the same strategy in every game. A good Gin game will switch playing strategies and styles to keep you on your toes. This one doesn't.Add to that that it can't ever find me a human player and it's a complete fail.

Fun When Not Frustrating Me

I don’t like not being able to arrange my cards when i want to arrange them. You can only move your cards around after you draw a card. What I really dislike is if you accidentally bump or tap a card in your hand, it shoots to the discard pile and you can’t get it back. So aggravating! You have to be very careful even just moving a card to rearrange it because it will fly into the discard pile and you can’t get it back. Please fix these two issues and I’ll give it 5 stars. I love having a variety of games and it is fairly evenly matched with the computer opponent.

Rearranges hand

The most irritating thing is how it changes your hand without permission. Perhaps you are trying for 3 3’s, if you already have 2 but also 3 aces and 2 2’ s and draw a 4 in one suit, it automatically changes your hand to a straight. I’ve discarded cards try for a particular set up and when it changes my hand it messes up the whole deal. Also I’m finding that the deal and play have started to go slower and hesitate mid deal or play. Other wise it’s fine

Problems with connecting

I have tried playing with a few different friends on the multiplayer option and when I sent the link to connect, we get a message saying it is trying to connect and all that happens is the wheel keeps spinning like it is trying to connect and it never does. then it will disconnect. We have tried a few times and this keeps happening, it never connects. Seems like a problem with the platform. I have no problems with my internet connection. How does this get fixed or what am I doing wrong?

Good options

I had a different gin rummy app which was good because it was very simple. But this is better because it has more options. I like the double tap for discarding a card as I sometimes hit the wrong one accidentally as they are so close. There are different versions too, but I haven't explored them yet. I am still on the rookie level and usually win, but not always which I like.

Fun but a tiny bit suspicious

For the most part this is a relaxing fun game. Speed and graphics are good, not overwhelming but good. The computer opponent doesn’t often get special moves to make sure it wins as so many free games do. Lots of ads but many are not the half minute variety.I have noticed that if I have 2 of a kind and discard one, the next drawer from the deck is same face value. I can’t figure why it is rigged that way unless it is shifting deck sequence for future hands in this game. But it happens at least 7 of 10 times.

Better Than My Previous App!

I played GinRummy using an app that the developer did not keep updated. With the last iOS update, that app would no longer work. And not all GinRummy apps include the Oklahoma variation, which has become my favorite. This app DOES, and the game plays “cleaner-looking,” if that makes any sense. I am really enjoying this app, and being able to add my name and my virtual opponent’s name is a nice touch.A comment to those reviewers who thought the game was “rigged” because the virtual opponent will frequently discard a card of the same value as the one YOU just discarded: When my father taught me this game, back in the 60s, he taught me that strategy. Unless you are collecting a run of cards of the same suit, if you throw down a 10, for instance, your opponent will, also (if he has one and doesn’t need it, himself). That gives him a better shot at you not picking it up from the discard pile. So the game isn’t rigged in favor of the virtual opponent. At least, not because of THAT! 😉

Needs improvement

First of all, i’ve noticed the same issues that “Flawed Game“ described. Also, on my iPhone Xr, the game only enlarges to fill about 1/4 of the screen, making the cards very small and difficult to play. The next issue is that the opposing player skill of the computer is very basic. I’ve got it set up to maximum skill level, and I still win almost all the time. I am a good player, but not that good. Also, the score for Big Gin is 50 points, whereas the international rules specify 31 points. I’m going to look for a game with the higher skill level, and one that follows the rules more closely.

Fun times

Loving playing Straight Gin lately more than the other versions- but so cool there are different versions to choose from with this app. Used to play Gin Rummy with my Great Grandpa 35 years ago & while bored during quarantine times- came across a different Gin Rummy app I played for a bit but didn’t like- then found this one with the option to invite a friend/hubby to play too & even tho he hasn’t played yet- I’m completely happy with the AI playmate. Very good game & so happy to have found this aesthetically pleasing Gin game app.

Flawed Game

I've been playing for a week now and I noticed a pattern develop. It seems that when you have two pairs and you must discard one, the next draw is usually the same card series as what you discarded. Say you had 2 threes and 2 fours. You discard a four and the next draw is a four. Discard the three and the next card is a three. Now I know there is a chance factor but it happens probably half the time. So I know that chance is not involved. It makes the game very frustrating because after awhile you know what's going to happen and that no matter what choice you make it will most probably be wrong. I don't know if this is a flaw or purposefully done. Otherwise the game is ok. You can tell when you are going to lose because, you either get a terrible hand or you can't draw a winner. I've had 5 pairs multiple times and I can't draw a third match in 10 draws. The odds of that happening are staggering. It's very frustrating
