Love the game, but...

I absolutely love card games, and this is one of the best. However, I wish there were more ways to earn coins. Such as: earning more with online play, earning more with the daily challenge, or even just lowering the coin cost of the other games options (I.e Oklahoma, Straight, Speed Gin). I love the options that this app gives for card games, but I do not like that it requires so many coins to purchase them. Short of purchasing coins (with real money) it takes forever to be able to purchase the other offered game. If the other game options become more feasible to purchase then I will rate your game with 5 stars.

The more I play - The more I like this Gin game

I have played other Gin games but I keep coming back to this one.I played another one for a long time (great graphics, a fast game and there was ALWAYS someone to play with because they had so many subscribers) until I realized it was set up to take all your coins (when you won too often they would set you up with bots instead of real players - the difference was obvious) you would need to purchase more. I started playing this Gin. It is different than the other one I played and it took some getting used to - but - the more I play this game, the more I like it. It is set up to be fair and I have never felt I was playing against bots - even when playing against the computer you don’t feel you are set up to lose. Sometimes it takes a while to find an opponent, but this should improve when more people sign up.

Still has issues

The game still has its problems. It frequently does not recognize when you have a gin. It also does not allow you to rearrange your cards when you go down to give the best possible scoring. As an example I recently had a hand where I had four 10s and I had a one object to King. It placed the ten on the run. That allowed my opponent to play a card after I had gone down. It also has issues when playing cards on your phone attend and rearranging your hand to do so. It doesn’t Optimize the score.

Fairly sorted deal?

I like this version of Gin Rummy better than some of the competing apps. First criteria for a good Gin Rummy app is a random sort of card before each deal...; not sure this app passing the Statistical hypothesis test for a random sort of cards in the deal/stack ... there are too many times when winning or losing the first hand means the cards dealt will determine whether you win/lose on the next. The advertising takes far too much time to justify playing a round/game when/if the sort and deal is not random and fair. Nevertheless, it’s better that some despite the ads; I just lay my phone down and ignore the ads

Lame AI

I get the sense whoever coded the AI for this game never actually played gin before. It’s like they just Wikipedia’d the rules and then went to work on the AI. You can’t win by actually trying to go out. Just get down to 4 or fewer points and keep going until you get your gin, or more likely, let the AI go down and almost every time you’ll undercut them or they’ll come away with only 2-3 points. I just went through a game without going down once. Undercut them four times. On the harder levels it’s hard to come away with the sense that they just deal the AI better cards. However this isn’t unique to mobile card games, usually the AI is some pretty basic if/then stuff augmented with a cheating dealer. On top of all that, the animations are a bit over the top, the ads are beyond annoying, and the “jokers”... really, does this game need some silly P2P powerup? This developer’s old version was way better.

Does the game cheat?

Graphics and game flow are great, but after playing a number of games I suspect that the programming is not correct. Correct programming should ensure that the computer and the player receive random cards. Nevertheless, the game offers a "re-deal" option if you don't like your deadwood. After a while you discover that the computer seems to be dealt incredible runs from the start while your hand is full of uncombinable deadwood. This means that you have to re-deal your deadwood to be competitive or else the computer will immediately knock or go Gin. Of course after a while you have to pay for the re-deal option. Hence, the suspicion. Hmmmm. I think I will delete this game and try another.

Two thumbs up

I love to play cards. The problem is I don’t have anyone to play with. For the longest time most bots got to be too predictable. Also, I believe the bots are given a blatant edge. For example, if there are only three cards that can beat me, each of the three bots would have one. This would occur nineteen out of twenty times, I think that goes a bit beyond skill and even lucky. In this Gin Rummy game, the bots seem to play reasonably well without blatantly stacking the deck. Over all, I like the UI and most of the animation. Over the past few years this game my favorite card game.

A good version of Gin Rummy

I've been playing this iteration of gin rummy for the last couple of years. I've tried others but so far always come back to this one. I just went from a Kindle to an iPad so can't really compare the verdins yet but on the expert version on the Kindle I was winning about 60% of my games. I don't know how that stacks up with others or what it says about the IA of the game. I did notice last year that it would sometimes discard a lower card than it kept when it knocked that didn't make a lot of sense. Perhaps that has been corrected in the latest update.Overall, the game plays fast, with no hesitation. I have not attempted to play with others on line although I believe that is possible from looking at the FAQs.

Cheats

I enjoy the visuals in this game but refuse to pay for ads to go away because the way the electronic opponent wins is totally unrealistic. On multiple occasions on the same day I didn’t even get a turn as opponent knocked on its first move. Also opponent always has a fair amount of cards of high value to play off of mine when I knock and I almost never have anything to play off of its cards when it knocks, even if I don’t have a single meld. This is not a good player, it is a cheating player. I’ve been playing this game a long time and keep waiting for improvements but have yet to see any. I’m about to delete it.

Great Game

I really like this version of Gin--it's fast, challenging and has terrific graphics. One little weirdness: the Medium level is more difficult than either the Easy or Hard levels. I've been playing Gin for nearly 50 years and have never faced an opponent that can so consistently knock after 2-3 draws. Sometimes, of course but at least once in every three games? And it's only on the medium level, none of the others. At least it keeps me focused and challenged!
