Great app to get started

I am beginning my journey to being a non-smoker...again. I have attempted this goal many times and have always slipped back into the addiction. But this time I am motivated and have hope for life long success. Why this app? Because it is teaching me a new way of thinking. There is no pressure. You take your own time to prepare for your quit day and do it when you feel ready. You get tools to help, advice from those who have been there, and an accountability system for your behavior and thinking related to smoking. I feel confident in my success this time. I am excited to come to the point where cigarettes no longer consume my thoughts and my health!

Much improved. (update)

Old review is below, but figured I’d update. I stuck with the app, and although I still find the Premium upsell touchpoints annoying, I’m raising my rating because I haven’t encountered any aggravating bugs in the more recent updates, and more importantly - I’ve found that even sticking with the free tier, the app works. It’s a good way to quit smoking. ——I really wanted to love this app. Even met one of the founders at a YC event. However, the app UX is just terrible. Almost every screen contains a surprise button that will bring up a full screen salepage for the subscription/premium service. Tapping “No, ask me later” in the “Log your cigarettes” section immediately triggers the app rating prompt, every single time. And twice, I’ve gotten into views somehow with no buttons, and no way out except killing the app (this is on an iPhone XS Max). Very disappointing!

From great to terrible in one update.

I did actually quit smoking thanks to this app. Unfortunately the positive reinforcements that helped me quit in the first place have stated working against me since the last update. At the end of each day I am used to tap the “no” button where the app asks you “Have you smoked today?”. After you confirm you haven’t smoked you receive a badge and an inspirational message of sort. It seems like a small thing but it helped me stay smoke free for several weeks together with the counter. The problem is since the last update each time I try to select “no” the app crashes, so I get zero badge è zero inspirational message. And what’s even more frustrating is that if you select “yes” (which to be clear it means you have slipped and you did smoke) the app doesn’t crash, making me feel like the app now wants me to fail! My craving have gotten much worse since this glitch appeared and I don’t want to reinstall the app because I don’t want to lose my progress.

4 years later and still smoke free!

I used this app back in 2018 and I credit the cognitive behavioral therapy approach to helping me quit smoking and stay that way! Went from pack a day smoker to long distance runner in a few years. Full disclosure: I’m not a “self help” book kind of person, or someone who thinks an app can solve my problems. This app however helped me solve a big problem. It helped retrain my thoughts. It wasnt always easy (I had one kind of hilarious moment of weakness where I chain smoked like a half pack like a week after going cold turkey- that’s normal). Overall I cannot recommend quit genius highly enough. Just wanted to give this app the review it deserved from someone with long term success who rarely even thinks about cigs anymore.

How much do you pay to smoke

I haven’t even tried this thoroughly yet but honestly idc if they charge. Most of us pay hundreds of dollars a month to smoke and that is just the cost of cigarettes. Do you know how much money chemo costs?? I am a Substance Abuse Counselor and I see asking people to invest financially as well as effort makes them more invested. Some treatment is free and it’s not about making money - it’s about how much more motivated we as humans are when we’re paying for something. We use it because we “want our moneys worth” Stop complaining and looking for an excuse to keep smoking. I’ll pay $2 a month all day long - that’s about the cost of my morning smoke sessions!

Premium is great!

This app definitely works, I finally quit smoking after trying all different types of things like 1,000 times, but what makes it work, at least for me, is paying for the premium so you get access to a quit coach. Having someone to chat at, and be held accountable to, when you’re craving is waaaay better than the exercises, although they are good too.Premium is kind of expensive, like $40 for 3 months, but cheaper than smoking! And your quit coach gives you customized guidance and advice on how to handle your specific situations. It’s really nice to feel like you have someone in your corner in the fight against smoking. If you don’t want to pay the $40 then just try the app. It’s still super good. But, if you can swing it get the premium because it makes it so much easier.

So I don’t usually rate things but...

This app actually helped me quit. Not only quit though, but change my mentality to become a non smoker. It was actually easy for me too, I went cold turkey. I’ll give you background, if smoked for ten years, two packs a day for most of it. I was kind of a chain smoker. I kind of got tired of isolating myself to places where I could smoke. It was hard to sit through a movie, go to friends houses, rent a car, go on a plane trip.. cigarettes were ten dollars a pack! Things weren’t looking good. So I started looking for ways to quit:This app uses cognitive behavioral therapy, and is had good experiences with that while in high school, CBT helped me work through my anxiety. So to know you could quit with CBT was worth a try to me.I was scared though, that I would be deathly uncomfortable after I stopped smoking, but I wasn’t: we make our own experiences. I really didn’t think it would be so simple. I didn’t use patches or any nicotine replacement therapy, I thought I’d just give it a go. The first time I tried to just cut down to nothing, but someone told me if I have the self control to do that, then I can simply quit just as easily, if not easier. So that’s what I ultimately did. I used the premium version, but I think one can also use the free version just fine.To the developers of this app and this program, thank you! You might have saved my life, but for certain you’ve improved my life a great deal.

Was better before

It’s been about a year and a half since I used this last. It helped me quit smoking but some rough stuff happened and I started again and abandoned this app. Now here I am looking to quit again so I start using this app again because it helped so much last time. It’s changed completely and not really in a good way. There used to be a handful of mini sessions to listen to when craving which were a tremendous help that were free and other ones you had to have the subscription to use that were also helpful. The subscription price has also gone up quite a bit. I don’t really use the personal coach and really just want the little sessions. But they are all locked. So are the after quitting sessions. It’s very disappointing that something that was amazing before has just gone down. The price isn’t the worst if you are a regular smoker but all I wanted was those craving sessions. They helped a lot and the only way to use them and really anything in the app is with the subscription. There used to be a variety of subscription types but now there’s just one. It’s just disheartening.

Finally!!

I have thoroughly researched CBT and have long known it was a very effective way to achieve my goal. The problem: it is not always easily accessible, affordable or easy to fit into life’s other demands such as work, running errands, etc.The solution has arrived! Here you have a dedicated team that is truly looking out for you and your success. The Steps are easy to follow and understand, the cost is beyond fair and affordable and you also get the added benefit of group support from people going through the exact same thing. It is very common to see the team behind the app responding to messages in the main group with words of encouragement and celebrating your successes with you! More than good enough to use on its own, but also great as a compliment with other methods such as medications (Chantix) and nicotine replacement therapy (gums and patches) as smoking is more than just physical, it is also psychological. In order to truly break free, you have to address the mental aspects behind addiction. Wish there were more stars to give!

Tricky Advertising

Sounds great at first as the first thing to do when setting up the app is you’re walked through paragraphs of motivational text and basics of CBT that frame your journey in a positive light. Sounds great!!Then, Halfway through the process you’re smacked with a page begging you to subscribe (like everything else nowadays, *sigh*). There is seemingly no real option to opt out, only opt in: either you press the giant blue Continue button (once again, halfway through setting up the app) or just find the sneaky little x in the far corner. If you do not subscribe you’re left with the setting up prompt on the home page (4/10) and can only log entries- might as well use the Notes app already on your iPhone or something. Funniest thing was the app touting on about and calculating how much I would save using the app and not buying vaping pods- the app would actually be more expensive than I would save quitting by your date🥴🤣🤣🤣
