Loved it until it stopped working... now fixed!

Update: It is fixed! THANK YOU, PEEKABOO BARN! This is our favorite again!—Original review: My daughter came to adore this app! But after about two months it suddenly stopped working on both our iPad and my iPhone. It crashes immediately upon opening it. I have tried everything—reinstalling the app, updating iOS—and nothing works. I have tried contacting the developer through its website contact form, twice, but never got any response. Apple says there’s nothing they can do either. I just want Peekaboo Barn to work again—my daughter has various disabilities that make it hard to interact with many apps but she loves this one like no other! Help!

Great App

I am an early intervention provider and a teacher of the blind and visually impaired. I have been using this app for years. The only thing is I don’t understand is what happened to it. It used to end with the barn going down and becoming night time and then the animals were sleeping. This does not happen anymore and I do not know how to get a hold of anybody to find out what is wrong.

Love but.....

This is an awesome app for my 15 month old. It keeps her entertained for more than a couple of minutes. My one issue is the babies/ children speaking on this app. Although they are super cute, they are not speaking the words clearly and/ or pronouncing the words correctly. Rabbit should not sound like "wabbit" especially for a child learning to speak. As a second grade teacher who has had many students who need speech support, I think it is important that my daughter hears the correct language to begin with. Thank you!

Teaches bad pronunciation

My son, a super farm enthusiast, loved this app when he was littler and he still does at times BUT the kids talking on there make him say words wrong. He’s 2, has the vocabulary of a 5 year old and his pronunciation normally is great. Right now he’s arguing with me saying the kids say “Apple bunt” at the end of the app when they say “all of them.” But I had to listen three times to know what they were actually saying. It is bad. So cute to keep them happy for a bit but unless you want your kid saying “roosta” forever, definitely limit this one.

Best toddler vocab app

My son loves this app. I immediately had to buy the bundle. I love that he cannot be led to another "buy this" or "do that" screen with his crazy 18 month old stabbing at the screen. I love that it reinforces the lessons that we are already teaching him. The little girls voice is kind of annoying but he does not seem to mind. It is so simple that he does not get too frustrated with it. I have been looking for something like this for a long time.

Love this app!

I have searched for the perfect baby/toddler app for my daughter who has cochlear implants and this one is perfect! I have been trying to find a peekaboo app that says the sound first then shows the animal. Not a lot of apps do this so I give this app 5 stars! It makes a great way for my daughter to practice her listening skills and I absolutely love how I can record my voice so she hears mommy’s voice when it’s time to say what the animal is!

Fun for years

My 2yearold loves this game. He’s played with it since he was 9m old. At first he just loved seeing the animals. Eventually he would start to make the noises. And now he’s saying the animal names as they appear. Before each animal appears, The barn will “wiggle” and make the animal noise that’s coming up, and I know as he gets older he’ll start to associate that noise with the animal and call it out ahead of time. Tons of learning with this app, and entertaining. This is a nice peaceful app for parents as well :)

Not for ages above 2!

There is no true interactivity or creativity to this app. It’s just one tap per page, then you see the animal and its name, hear a typical sound, and hear the name. No options (such as don’t show the name so the child has a chance to say it, or don’t show the spelling). No exploring and getting different results. It’s almost as passive as television. I would never have bought the app if the description had been clear or if it had included a sample video. I bought a peekaboo bundle as my first purchase to amuse a four year old, and I was so disappointed because it was a waste of money. I was fooled by the 4+ age rating, which I now guess is the youngest rating on the Apple store. I think any child over two would be instantly bored by this app. It’s not properly called a game, since the kid has nothing to do.

13 month old loves this

My 13 month old has never played on a tablet before, but COVID19 has me desperate for entertainment. This is a simple app with about a dozen animals, but my kid can easily and happily play it a few times through, buying me a precious ten minutes to get some work done. Definitely worth the purchase. I can’t imagine it would entertain a toddler much older than two, but for our purposes it’s exactly what I was looking for.

Love It! (Well, my son does, anyway)

My eleven month old son loves this game. As I write this, he's cackling away, opening the barn doors and dancing. What impresses me most about this game, or whatever you want to call it, is the ease and intuitive nature of the interface. As I say, my son is eleven months old and has been able to figure this out more or less for himself. As a treat, once every couple of weeks, we're getting more of the titles in this series, but so far, Peekaboo Barn is the one to which he has had the strongest response. I credit it as much to his growing intelligence and inquisitive nature as I do to the developers behind this app in concocting something for even the youngest children. I thought it would be years before I'd be comfortable handing an iPad to my son (and to be frank, I don't like him staring at or playing with screens all day like I do) but when he's threatening to spill the dog's water all over the kitchen floor again, empty out the movie cabinet, or aggressively peruse our breakables, this makes a superb and immersive distraction. Highly recommended!

Description

Open up the world-famous Peekaboo Barn, perfect for toddlers. Inside the little bouncing barn, friendly farm animals are waiting to pop out and surprise your little one. Try and guess who they are; tap the doors to find out! More animals, animations, and sounds than ever.

Work with your child to learn the names of animals and hear the sounds they make. Younger children will love opening the barn doors to find new animal animations, as they learn about cause and effect and become familiar with animal names and sounds. Older children will enjoy guessing animals by sound, then seeing the animal names, which helps develop early literacy skills.   Multiple Language Features: We started with a child's voice in English. It's her real voice, which some kids really enjoy, but she does say "wabbit" and "wooster." If this is a concern for you, you can switch to any of 12 adult voices; our adult narrators say everything clearly and perfectly, just like the teachers they are. You can try many languages from around the world—or record your own language, or grandma's voice. There are tons of ways to explore the languages of Peekaboo Barn! Press the Language button on the Options screen to try them out. —Choose from the built-in narrators: child's voice in young English; adult's voice in American English or Spanish. —World languages also included: Mandarin, Cantonese, Hindi, Japanese, Swedish, Dutch, Italian, German, French, Australian, and UK English. —Record your own voice: We added this feature so parents, children, and visiting relatives and friends can capture their own voices and star in Peekaboo Barn.  Now you can record the animal names in your native language--or grandma's voice, or grandpa's--and, if you're recording a new language, you can save the appropriate written version too, and both will show up the next time you play. (Please note, we can only support the writing systems that are supported by your device.) FEATURED BY APPLE  One of the first apps to be released for toddlers, since 2008 Peekaboo Barn has been downloaded over a million times, and played over 100 million times worldwide.  It has been a top 20 educational game on the iTunes store nearly every day since its launch, and has been featured by Apple often.  It won The Best Toddler App Ever award in 2009, and was named one of the top 50 iPhone apps for kids by Babble.com in 2010 and 2011.  It is recommended by The New York Times, MSNBC, USA Today, Wired, Telegraph UK, Ireland’s The Independent, Parents Magazine, and the Washington Post. Peekaboo Barn was made for you and your toddler by artists and educators, not marketers, robots, or companies repackaging clip art. Our team has backgrounds in cognitive science and child development, and we’ve worked in educational media everywhere from Penguin USA to the Smithsonian Institution. When you could really use a safe distraction--in airports, restaurants, and waiting rooms--or you'd like to try something new with your little genius, Peekaboo Barn is the educational, artful solution.
