Instant buy

I've wanted something like this for a while. To me, it's like the equivalent of pulling photos of your family out of your wallet to show someone (instead of showing them every photo you've ever taken). This was an instant buy for me. I was going to suggest adding a way to lock on a specific album, but then I realized it does this automatically with Guided Access. Great extra detail!

This is what I’ve been needing!

Oh my gosh, this is exactly what I’ve been needing! My husband told me about this app after hearing the developer talk about it on a podcast. This is perfect for our precocious and curious toddler who *loves* looking at picture and watching videos of herself. It’s a little buggy - has crashed a couple of times - but when Guided Access is enabled, it launches the app right back. Thank you for making this!!

Simply Amazing

No matter if your kid is 3 or 13 you probably don’t want them having write access to your photos (i.e. the Photos app). But kids of all ages always want to look through your photos. Until this app I’ve simply said no! Now I can happily hand them my $1,200 phone with no worries ...No, but seriously, this is amazing piece of mind (with an old device).

Finally fixed the bug where it couldn’t see albums

1. I’m a paid user2. Couldn’t use the feature to pick a different album than Recent for years3. Now it started workingCasey was very kind and apologetic when I reached out, but we had been unable to tell what was wrong. Now it’s working and I’m happy!

Great idea!

My wife and I have definitely used the “show kids photos from our phones to keep them occupied” trick, and this makes it so they can’t accidentally delete my photos. This version is early, obviously, but it’s off to a good start. A great additional feature would be choosing specific people to show instead of a specific album.

Best way for kids to browse the family photos

My family photo/video album is my iCloud Photo Library. Everything is in there, ever since the kids were born. So, when the kids ask to look at family photos, I hand them the iPad. And, even though I turn on Guided Access each time I hand the iPad to them, it’s still nerve wracking for me to know they could be accidentally deleting swaths of precious photos and videos. Yikes! So, Peek-a-View is exactly what I needed. It’s such a perfect way to let my kids get a view-only experience of the photos and videos they love. My nervousness about inadvertently deleted photos is gone! Absolutely worth the $5 purchase price. Here’s a feature request: my kids are 5 and 8 years old and I understand out to stop and start video playback. Please allow me a way to tell Peek-a-View not to loop the video playback. My kiddos know how to start the video playing again if they want to see it a second (or third, or tenth) time.

Great app, not just for kids

Ran into an issue a couple of weeks ago where someone was scrolling through picts and got outside the area I intended for them to see. Not sure I will ever need more than what the free version offers, but happily paid for the in-app purchase strictly to support the development of random apps that I didn’t know I needed. Thanks Casey!!

Good concept, execution needs work

I like the idea of a read-only photo gallery, but the initial version of Peek-a-View has several issues that make it painful. The photos are displayed at a low resolution. (It’s especially noticeable with screenshots, but affects all images.) The zoom behavior is strange: it always zooms to the center of the image no matter where I pinch, and after I release my fingers it zooms back out. I also had it crash several times in the few minutes I used it.I look forward to these issues being fixed in future versions. As of now, I can’t see myself using this.

Great for nosy coworkers

My coworkers enjoy seeing photos of my 4 month old. This lets me hand off my phone so they can oooo and ahhh without me having to babysit them or swipe for them. (It’s good for the grand parents too)The interface change in guided access mode is a nice touch!I would like it if this app let me make temporary albums to show people, rather than counting on the photos app for albums.

Perfect for controlling access to pictures and videos on your device

The app makes handing your phone over to another person to view photos much less fraught. While it is geared to allowing kids to play with pictures and videos in a controlled setting, it also works great with sharing a curated set of pictures with adults. It transforms your phone, in the best way possible, into a single use device: a picture (and video) frame.

Description

Save your photos from accidental — or deliberate! — deletion by toddlers, clients, or anyone that can't be trusted. Peek-a-View is a read-only photo gallery. Using Peek-a-View, you can always feel safe sharing your photos with anyone, because there is literally no way to have Peek-a-View delete your photos.

In fact, Peek-a-View does not write ANY data back to your photo library. When paired with the Guided Access feature on iOS and iPadOS, you can lock your device into Peek-a-View, ensuring that the only thing that device can do is look at photos, until you decide otherwise. By default, Peek-a-View will show your most recent photos in your photo gallery, but it can be configured to only show a specific album. Furthermore, access to Peek-a-View's settings is automatically restricted when Guided Access is started. Peek-a-View will show you your 20 most recent photos for free; a one-time in-app purchase will remove that limitation. Peek-a-View fully supports Dark Mode, Dynamic Type, Live Photos, videos, and animated GIFs. With purchase, it also supports several alternative icons. Born from a trip to an amusement park with a very independent toddler, Peek-a-View was written so that my wife and I can give our phones to our precocious two-year-old and know that she won't accidentally delete any of our precious memories.  Without Peek-a-View, we'd have to hope that she didn't figure out how to delete anything, or spend time fiddling with the Guided Access settings to block out the delete features on the Photos app.  With Peek-a-View, we can simply open the app, start Guided Access, and hand her the phone. No deletion, no modifications, no worries.
