Frequently crashes, tabs very slow to close- closing one takes at least a second and can cause for a bad experience if you’re trying to close more than one tab. The browser can bog up and just stay frozen on the favorites homepage and not allow you to input a url until you force close the app. I’m a pro user of Kagi and I use Orion on desktop, with its own annoying flaws, and I’m writing this in best interest of the company. Kagi is excellent. Orion is hardly stable and you’ll probably just end up using safari half the time like me.
Orion is a decent alternative to Safari on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS for casual use. I found it mostly good but it just doesn’t serve my needs as well as I hoped.I find after having more than 20 tabs open on iOS or iPadOS, it basically comes to a halt and I have to wait a few seconds for it to let me interact with anything, even trying to close tabs. I use an A15 iPhone and A12Z iPad. (It may sound like a lot, but I’m constantly jumping through websites for work and personal).SlideOver doesn’t work well on iPadOS, the share tabs and setting buttons overlap the address bar. The request desktop setting often didn’t work, so I usually got a blown up mobile experience. Also, when using scribble on iPadOS, the Apple Pencil toolbar with the enter key and options wouldn’t show up when scribbling in the address bar.
Honestly I am very impressed with this browser and surprised I haven't heard others talking about it. I've used Safari and Firefox previously; however, Orion is faster, more stable, and more feature rich than both. There are a few things I would like to have added, feature parity wise, but overall the app is great, the devs are responsive and friendly, and it offers a new welcoming browser opportunity to IOS users.
The UI for extensions is pretty buggy, but i don’t care because i can finally have ublock origin truly protecting me from ads while browsing the web on an IOS device. No other browser nor safari extension i’ve tested can handle popups and ads like this browser with the ublock origin extension can. Go ahead and browse to a sketchy streaming site and notice how you don’t get interrupted by ANYTHING! Finally
This seems like a relatively new project, so I’m assuming a lot of this browser’s problems will be solved with time. It really is safari on crack (with a little bit of brave- the ad block is lovely) and I really like it! However, it’s quite buggy. When in split screen view, the bookmark and share button end up over the search bar. Whenever I want to copy or paste something, it always asks me to allow it (maybe it’s a setting I need to change?). It’s totally understandable that the desktop browser extension integration is clunky since it says it’s still experimental, but some of them straight up don’t work. Things that need a popup, like Yomichan, are almost useless in Orion. I’m really excited to see where this browser goes. It looks really promising!
I’ll give this app 4 stars, it’s great at this early stage, but with a few more quality of life features it’ll be a 5. First off, when clicking on a link I’m always prompted to open it in the app of choice, but I don’t get the option to just open it in the browser (also a open in whatever browser of choice could be nice). The options it gives you are “Never, Once, Always, and Cancel”, but “Cancel” doesn’t just automatically open the link in the browser. Another feature I’d suggest is to let us click on the auto fill suggestions in the search to put the words on our keyboard like in Safari. One more good feature is to add tab groups and also let us change the layout of the bottom icons. If you’re reading this, thank you for putting this amazing app on iOS and your work is appreciated.
There's so many extensions that I use to comfortably and safely browse the web, and I'm glad this browser allows me to use them, something very rare on iOS. Unfortunately I have some issues with some extensions, where the settings pages don't show anything, the buttons don't work and also some are just completely blank if you use dark mode on your phone. I am a primary dark mode user so that was a bit annoying when I figured it out. I hope some fixes are possible in the future.
I had issues with their desktop browser not supporting certain extensions (namely MetaMask) and when trying on mobile, Dark Reader gets wiped out whenever I close the app and re-open it, forcing me to toggle the extension off then on to get it working again. These small quality of life improvements and compatibility upgrades will go a long way to making Orion my daily driver. I’ll keep checking in on progress from time to time to see how it’s going. Great to see a dedicated team behind this.
Brave catches a rate of about 92% on average, and Firefox a solid 87% tied with every other browser. If privacy isn’t a big concern to you, the speed alone will win you over.Only issue holding me and a few friends from fully switching is that app links need to be manually allowed. That’s cool, but giving me an error because the app I want to open into isn’t supported is lackluster. Every other browser can do this already - no excuses.
I was one of the beta users of the app and was super excited for full release. There are major issues when attempting to log in via google or apple on some sites (just doesn’t work). I will then open safari and it will work first time. Some sites if you try to zoom in, the app opens the grid view instead, making it impossible to zoom. I keep coming back to this app hoping those things are fixed, but I simply go back to safari each time. I love the ability to add extensions, even though some lack the ability to get to their options without so many bugs. I hope these issues get fixed in the future because the app clearly has potential to be the best.
