Incredible

Incredible game. Immersive, I’ve sometimes even played until 5 am not even realizing what time it was.The free version has 4 main characters/classes to choose from, each with their own abilities and uniqueness. You can play them over and over and with the varying cards each playthrough makes it original every time.If you’re like me, and you’ve played the main 4 to death (haha), just 1 extra character is only 0.99 (I, personally, recommend the werewolf).Without getting into spoilers, the game has a great storytelling element that keeps you wanting to play again just to see what you missed. 15/10 would recommend! 💕

An absolute steal

Incredibly good game for so cheap. Reminiscent of Slay the Spire (thought without foresight of what the enemy will do), but I much prefer the art, storyline, voice acting, and sense of mystery this game creates. While it’s easy to pick up, there’s a LOT of subtle strategy to pick up re: how to structure your deck, how to time story elements, when to hold cards for future turns, etc. And the different classes play very differently, so I’ve found plenty of playability so far. The only real weak point I’ve found is some poor translations in some places (though it’s never messes up my understanding of the gameplay at least). Overall, a great game in its own right, and an absolute steal for such a cheap price!

How I beat it - Fun game

The game itself is pretty fun, there are some minor translation errors but aside from that it’s a pretty good game. Some of the bosses and other monsters can be frustratingly hard, and a couple classes are harder than other’s, but it ended up being a lot of trail and error for me until I found the right/easiest set-up. Basically you want to select the ranger class and go for a Poison/Action deck, remove your red damage cards ( but take the red poisons)when you get a chance, I usually just take out one or two at the selfless town. Raise Action power every time you get a chance, and raise max health now and then too. You want to pick up cards like Venom/Bleeding/Motivation/Agility/Fatal injuries/Infection/Residual Shadow/Focus/Imitation/Sidekick/Sprint/Recycle and grab a destruction or another equipment buster type card, because you’ll need at least one. The goal here is to continue drawing tons of cards while gaining action power and dropping tons of poison on your opponents. I usually will copy a sprint or agility after I finish grabbing all the apples for the witch. I’ve won pretty much every time I’ve gone with this set up. I always skip all red damage cards besides infection. Also, if you see it and can grab it, boots of speed, longbow and ghost blade run really well in this deck. Anyway hope you give it a try and have fun!

Such a great game

This may look like another deck-building based roguelite, but it stands out from the rest. This game has an actual plot; the different classes have clear strengths, but the ability to play them in different ways; the enemy visuals and voice lines have personality; and for a mobile game, the games aren't too long. The game is easy to grasp, but gives you plenty of room to improve if you want to master it.— Despite this long paragraph, this is only a minor criticism, but the only criticism I could think of in this amazing game. —The game does have a "skill tree" system, where you earn stars for beating bosses throughout your different runs, which you spend to buff certain aspects of subsequent runs. It's a nice idea, and I appreciate the fact that it's in the game at all, but it's rather shallow. It's easy to max out the skills after a few good runs, and then you just forget about it. I wish they could add something to make it more in-depth, something more to work towards, but it's only a minor criticism.— End of criticism —All-in-all, the gameplay itself is great, and reminds me of Slay the Spire, the art work is wonderful, the gameplay mechanics are cool and innovative, and a blast to play in your free time.* I definitely recommend purchasing the DLC classes, as it breathes more variety into the game. *

Bugs

First I wanna say that this is my favorite mobile game ever. I loved it so much I bought their most expensive collectors dlc on my iPhone eight. At the time I signed in with Facebook. When I switched to a new iPhone 11 none of my purchase history could be recovered, despite signing in with the same Facebook account as before. I looked past that and decided to keep playing. I finished everything available in the base game, then deleted it. Today I decided to download it again, and even though I was already signed in, it kept giving me error messages in a language I don’t speak. I checked the settings to make sure I had set them to English, and it was on English. The help button also displayed a language I don’t know. So I screenshot them and used the google lens translate. It said something about national regulations in January of 2020 (two years ago) and that I had to enter a real-name and ID number. I have absolutely zero clue what that is, and signing out didn’t help anything, because it gave me the same error messages in the same language. I’m very frustrated because this game was a lot of fun, and is absolutely my favorite mobile game of all time, but now it’s virtually unplayable. I deleted the game and will download it again to see if it works, but at this point I doubt it.

Easily Favorite Game

I have so much fun every time I play this game, it’s the perfect deck building-rogue like for mobile! I was looking for a mobile Slay the Spire substitute and this is honestly an even more enjoyable experience since you can take it with you everywhere you go. I think all of the 1 star reviews for this game are completely unfair because nearly all of them are based on 1) payment issues which have since been patched and handled by the dev team who does great work or 2) complains that it’s a “rip off” of Dream Quest by Peter Whalen. If you actually looked, there is an envelope on the main page of the game that explicitly states that they got permission from Peter himself to collaborate and recreate Dream Quest. And they did an amazing job! The game looks absolutely amazing, with voice lines for *every!* interaction, which is impressive. I genuinely have no complaints for this game, and for anyone wondering, the in-app purchases are two DLC classes, a card magician and an apothecary, both $.99 and (since i love this game so much) definitely worth it. Hopefully this review does the game enough justice to convince anyone on the fence about getting it, but if it hasn’t...this game is 1 (one) dollar!! You would have to be an absolute mad man to read this far in the review and at least not TRY this gem of a $.99 mobile game. Best of luck to anyone getting the game :)

I was skeptical at first, but wow...

This game is actually great. I’m a HUGE roguelike deckbuilder fan and was looking for something to play on iOS that wasn’t a game I could already play on PC or Switch and saw this recommended. I was a bit hesitant because the majority of mobile games I’ve played that aren’t direct ports of preexisting games are usually paywalled, but I was happy to learn that all the in app purchases for this game are purely expansive and you don’t need to spend another cent on top of the base price to get the full experience. After realizing this, I happily bought all the dlc characters (and they’re also great). The game itself is exactly what I want out of a mobile deckbuilder: it’s light enough that I can play it during downtime, but has enough depth to keep my interest. There’s enough new and exciting things happening here that it feels fresh, and isn’t trying to cash in on the deckbuilder craze, but is recognizing its roots and trying to do something different and push the genre in a genuine way. It’s not reinventing the wheel, but it’s novel and fun and definitely worth the asking price. The hysterical translations just add to the charm.

Solid Deckbuilder, a few issues

First of all, this is Dream Quest with genuine production value and some semblance of a story. There are tons of cards, replay value is great, and there is incremental progress through unlocking new abilities and cards. The art, music, sounds, and dialogue are all top notch. That being said, I’ve had some issues playing the game. Network connectivity issues pop up a lot, and I even just tried purchasing one of the DLC character classes. The purchase went through, but there was an error unlocking it and I don’t have access to the character, even after restarting the game and trying to “restore” purchases. Secondly, there are a handful of typos and glitches I’ve noticed. “Maximun” instead of “maximum” in a couple of places, and sometimes maximum health fluctuates for no reason. One card is supposed to add maximum health if you kill an opponent with it, but it actually subtracted max health instead. I’ve really enjoyed playing the main game, and there are other game modes you can pay to unlock, but it’s impossible to tell what the game modes are like. If I can’t tell if it’s fun, I’m not going to buy it. I wish there was an “unlock all” purchase, because while I’m normally very stingy with mobile games, I’d be interested in buying access to everything. The one deluxe purchase to unlock all classes with a couple of minor add-ins isn’t really any kind of discount. Overall, still very worth buying this game!

Well drawn art and fun voice acting; boring gameplay

The game offers a great presentation with all drawn art for the characters and the not too serious voice acting. It was worth the initial play through. The game itself, however, does not require much thinking. All classes have only a couple of actual moves: some poison type of move which damages enemies after the turn, a piercing move that goes through shields, and armor. While balancing action points requires some skill it almost feels like it doesn't matter which cards you actually play. Mana builds are even easier and most classes will give you cards that just give you heaps of mana after the first chapter. The DLC however offers significantly challenging bosses. So much so many are literally impossible to beat because your cards just cannot defeat them. It's tough to build for bosses too since different runs have different bosses. That's where the not much thinking problem comes in. You can o ly defeat some bosses after trying repeatedly because the cards get dealt a certain way. This is NOT the case with other mobile games where often your build can defeat the enemy with ingenuity and patience.Overall, the game was worth the money and the initial 10 hours or so. I would hold off on the DLC though.

A Worthy Successor to Dream Quest

A lot of roguelike deckbuilders have appeared in the time since Slay the Spire became super popular, and this one in particular draws a lot of inspiration from a much older game, “Dream Quest.”That said, this game takes the concept of Dream Quest and sends it soaring to new heights, with a really engaging and surprisingly intricate story- I don’t think I’ve ever seen another deckbuilder with an ending like this. In addition, the gameplay, while similar to Dream Quest’s, feels a lot less arbitrary. That said, this game is much easier than other roguelike deckbuilders out there, which could be a positive or a negative. I haven’t played through the hard mode or the Diaries modes much yet, but I’ll revise this if it turns out that there’s a real bite to those.Speaking of which- one more thing that really sets this game apart from its spiritual predecessor is the variety between classes- classes aren’t just set apart by active abilities and starting decks, but draw from entirely different card pools, making the classes feel much more different, like in Slay the Spire or Hearthstone’s various deckbuilding adventures.Definitely worth a look!Oh, and one more thing- the dialogue in this game occasionally loses something in translation, but in a very charming way, and the voice actors always sell it. “The ancestors’ experiences show us that we should focus our efforts on enhancing!”
