App could be better

I will give five star for the price and easy setup but took one star off for app. For routine schedule setup, it allow you to choose only when to turn on or off but not both. So to get around it, you have to set the time to turn on and then set up another automatic turn off schedule after so many hours. Most smart plug apps allows you to set up both on and off time not just one. Also I wish it has the option to schedule from sunset to dawn which other smart plug apps offers (e.g. KASA). Is there a way to apply the same routine for all 4smart plugs? I didn’t see the option so I set it up individually. While it is nice to set up different routines for different plugs but it would be nice to have the option to apply the same schedule to multiple plugs if I want to. If developers can improve the app to accommodate this, I would say this is the best smart plugs you can get for the money you spend.

The New App Update is Horrible

The new version 3.0.0 software update is a huge disappointment. The new user interface is horrible. The old interface had large animations on the app which were well done. The new update made all of the widgets much smaller and photos that you add are now too small to even see. Part of the reason that I always liked the Meross product line is the app was well done and the old user interface was very easy to see and use. If the new version 3.0 is the only version of the app available, I will no longer recommend Meross to other people. I restored my phone just to go back to the old user interface and turned off updates to the app. But now, one of the 3 way dimmer switches that I have is not usable without updating the app which will cause me to go to the new user interface that I don’t want. There should be a way to select if you want to use the old original UI or the new screens in version 3.0 that I would never select.I understand that the new UI design has smaller widgets or icons so more accessories can fit on the screen, but it just does not look or work as well as the old version of the app prior to the latest update. The design is very poorly done.Also the new screen for routines is poor as well. Overall the new app update is awful and a huge step backwards. I think that there will be a lot more negative feedback from other users.

Meross delivers

While no home automation company is perfect, there is a lot going well with Meross and it’s customers. A steady flow of new products, regular updates and bug fixes. And making HomeKit/SmartThings/Alexa/Google Home accessories for only a little more than what most others charge for mediocre Alexa-only or Google Homely gadgets. I like Meross a lot and watch their releases closely. I do wish they would consider an option for us to be cloud-free entirely, much as Sonoff has done. There are many reasons to like the cloud services in urban areas. But in rural areas, you have to be accustomed to the possibility of days or weeks without DSL or cell tower internet services. Also without fresh groceries or electrical power. Or being snowed in or isolated by flooding. Or having an ice storm that pulls down power lines over an area of hundreds of square miles. Your power can go out for months. And you don’t have to be living in the backwoods for these to happen to you. At least 25% of Americans live in places that can turn decidedly uncivilized for days or weeks even months on rare occasions. We need resilient local automated systems.It takes vision by company leaders but rural America is still a great market even now, just as it was for decades in the last century.

Needs CarPlay support

It seems obvious that with a smart garage openers you would want an app from CarPlay to control them. Please add that into your next version.I know Apple offers control of a garage door in HomeKit from CarPlay, but that does not allow selection of which one when you have multiple doors. As a result you must use Siri, or remove all but your main door from HomeKit for that to work. The obvious solution is for Meross to provide a CarPlay app that shows all garage door related devices. At least until Apple starts supporting multi door setups (i.e CarPlay’s configuration should allow a primary door to be selected when there is more than one in HomeKit for the address). That way you could match each car to its parking space.Meross supports AppleWatch from the app, why not add support for CarPlay too? If you did I would be a bigger fan than I already am. PLEASE!!!!

Overall Love

We have lights, smart plugs, and garage openers. The garage opener can be a pain sometimes. I believe it gets glitchy due to the app disconnecting or connecting to the wifi from cell network when you arrive or depart from home. It’s the biggest irritation when you need to leave quickly and the app fails to connect and does this thing where it has to finish fully “closing” the garage door that didn’t connect. Other times I’ve had to call family to open it from their app because I loose patience, it’s literally like a few minutes lost but I come and go so much, just being honest, haha. However, it always ends up working and overall it is more of a convenience than not. Theft everywhere has escalated and I feel safer not having openers just sitting in the cars.The lights are incredible, never have had a problem working them through the app. It’s kind of odd through Alexa though. Some lights I can tell Alexa to turn off/on and it’s no problem, other lights, she won’t do. We added them all at the same time so I’m not sure what the problem is but I don’t have the time to go down the rabbit hole of trouble shooting, not that big of a deal overall. No regrets on any Meross products and they have been reasonably priced, which is most appreciated!

Versatile and easy to setup and use

I have been using various circuit control plugs for over a year now and have found the Meross system to be reliable as well as less expensive than some other systems. I started with a single plug and have gradually expanded my system to control both interior and exterior light circuits. Many are automatically controlled by time of day or daylight/dark times. Others are primarily controlled by voice commands via Alexa. Some have auto shutoffs after a certain amount of ON time. Many are grouped together to create time-of-day scenes.So far I haven’t had any problems other than occasional reports from Alexa that a particular plug isn’t responding, which is usually fixed by simply asking Alexa to perform the task again.Setup of each new plug is simple and quick by simply following the steps presented in the Meross App.My only unmet needs are for a wider selection of dimmable plugs and the ability to individually address each outlet on the multi-outlet devices via Alexa voice commands - which can be individually controlled on the App and be setup through the use of Scenes.

Latest update created a big issue (Resolved)

Loved the older version of the app as it always works perfectly. After the latest update. I lost all ability to control my app using a cellular connection to operate the opener remotely. Tech support says it’s a phone issue, Apple tech states that my permissions are set to allow cellular access. Works great when on my home WiFi network but losing the ability to open my garage remotely has me looking for an alternative option. Note this issue started immediately following the latest update.Meross reached out to me via email and we have resolved to the issue of remote access using cellular. It was not a cellular or permission issue but did require a hard reset of the device. Now that the app is working as it should allowing access from both WiFi and remotely via cellular connection I am giving this app and update 4/5 stars. The update does make it more difficult to open and close the garage door but only because the developer changed the size of the open/close button. It is way too small and more difficult to operate. If they would fix this issue, this would easily been a 5 star app update. Customer service has been great. 5/5 there. Let’s make that button a little bigger guys.

Beware of your privacy with this app

Originally, this app required users to create an account in order to do anything — even just a simple firmware update. Then, after user complaints, the developer changed the app to allow updating device firmware without having to create an account. Now, that ability has been taken away again. It has been gone for a while. None of the release notes say that it was going to be removed.The fact that they specifically told users in a developer response that it was added (and/or going to be added), then they added it, then quietly took it away is a somewhat shady way of doing things. For those people that only want to interact with their HomeKit devices through the presumed security of the Home app, you may want to consider other device manufacturers; or, at least, make sure you get all of your privacy questions answered from this developer, and that you can actually trust the answers you get.

Can’t even use the app anymore

I ordered a Meross garage door opener and at first it worked out fine. The installation was a bit tricky and I would often have to re-run the installation set-up if I took too long, but once I got it hooked up it worked fine...for a while. Eventually the garage door opener started to not register on my app. I would click the button to open/close and it would be unresponsive, even though it worked earlier. that same day. This happened more often then not and became a sour experience. The latest problem, and the reason for the one star, is now the app will no longer let me log in to my account. It logged me out initially for no reason at all (I used the app fine the day before), and now I have changed the password 4 times, all of which are met with a “password was incorrect” screen. Stay away from this app and products, they are a complete hassle to use in every way!

Love and Hate it

Homekit home/Apple fanboy and These work perfectly. Wish they were thead/matter enabled yet no complaints. I have the meross light switches single pole and 3way. Super simple to install (this only goes bad if your electrician didn’t install the nuetral wire, no knock on Meross at all). When i say simple I mean simple. The instructions where spot on, once you do one switch you are on auto pilot. I installed 14 Switches and will be buying more. Secondly, I have the garage door opener, wanted automation but not another hub. Ultimate goal is to be hubless. So i first purchased the my Q device for $25 this was cool but not convenient, takes to long to search through app to get to it and didn’t want to buy their hub. I got the Meross and my life became simple. Look i can use apple car play and when i get close to home it appears on my screen and i can simply open the garage door. My family was thrilled. Then we started noticing that we cant tell if the garage door is open or not, the status is unreliable we see open and obstructed. Can’t figure it out but the My Q gives me the status all day long. So i rely on the MyQ for an accurate status and package delivery. So in all i’m great but frustrated with the garage door opener.I hope this helps.
