Update ruined playability of app

The game runs much more smoothly with the latest update but the layout makes it so hard to play that I find myself playing a lot less. In the prior version, you could play the game in portrait mode on an iPad mini and view your hand and the map at the same time. Why would you make the map and all components smaller and change the layout so if you view your hand, it covers part of the board? If anything, smaller components should give you more space so there is no overlap. The latest update also removed some of the highlights on quests you have the resources for when it is time to complete them. This last comment is really user based but why add more steps to a game? It seems like for every part of every move have to hit the green button. I know with the prior game you choose and then hit select but it seems like with this update you added an extra button or steps to ever move. And I mean move, not turn so in a turn there could but like 3 extra steps. This was a great and fun mobile version of game. The update literally killed the playability of the game. Add a revert please so I can play this game again

Was my go-to game...no longer playing it!

I was so excited to see Lords of Waterdeep finally get updated. Then I opened it and tried playing a few rounds. I thought I was struggling because it was just new to me. But the more I played, the more I realized how terrible the new interface is. And I mean terrible to the point of taking all the wonderfulness that was LoW and making it not worth playing. At all. It was my go-to game for several years, playing almost every day. Now I don't even think about it. I was just about to delete it off my phone to make room for other stuff and thought I'll just give it another try. Terrible! Enough that I'm writing this review in a last ditch effort to beg the developers to either revert to the old interface, add a user preference to choose the interface, or at least give us users the option to download the old version.C'mon guys...the first step to healing is admitting a mistake was made. And you can read all the reviews to realize it's a huge mistake. I promise we're all very forgiving if you will just fix this!

Thank You ‘SeriousRushFan...

Update: I stopped paying with AI Arilyn Moonblade. She ALWAYS wins matter how many AIs are in the game, she wins and by 20-30 points each time. Even with all the AIs difficulty set to easy. The game’s fun w/o her.——...for mentioning in your review what device you’re playing D&D Lords Of Waterdeep on. I, too, have the 12.9” Pro so I knew I could buy the game and be able to read the smallest fonts with the ‘card zoom’ feature. And to be honest, the redesigned (unknown to me at the time) UI is exactly what caught my eye first, before I knew it was a D&D game. By the way, there is a game status screen. Touch any player’s avatars. Plus a game history screen too. I’m already lovin’ D&D Lords Of Waterdeep!

Pretty good

Never heard of this game nor played it before the update. The reviews scared me off but gave it shot with the app sale. No regrets. Playing on mini iPad 4 and it is very much playable. Just went through the tutorial and no issues with reading cards. Granted can't compare to what people are complaining about before but so far so good. Recommend it!Update: So after playing a couple games I can see where people say you can't read all the cards. I'm guessing they mean the building cards if there's a lot at once. No problem as you can swipe and scroll them. Then double click to view it entirely. Not a big deal and nothing to prevent playing but it is a nuisance. Granted the playing field is limited and its mobile so what they have is probably as good as it gets.

Why Auto-Forfeit? And then I can’t view the game??

So there I am—playing a game online with two friends, and I’m running out of time on the 30-minute clock that was inadvertently set by the person who set up the game. Then, despite being near the end of the game, and despite having friends enjoying that I’m playing with them, the timer runs out of time in the middle of my turn, and automatically forces me to forfeit the game. I try to go back in to watch the rest of the game, and I can’t do that either. But rather than just eject my player from the game, the AI takes over my game. I can’t play with my friends anymore; I can’t watch their game finish up; and they still wanted me playing with them. Why not include a way for the other players to choose to boot a player who has run out of time (like Board Game Arena), rather than forcing them out? That’s just dumb. Some of us like to take our time when we play. And it looks like they haven’t updated the fame for years, so it’s unlikely that anything useful is going to happen on this front. Dumb app design for a fun game.

The old layout and UI was so much better

I LOVE Lords of Waterdeep, and when I originally found this app, i was so happy. The UI and game were perfect to the point that sometimes My friends and I decided to play on our phones vs hard copy. But now with the major updates, the app is terrible. It’s hard to move around on the board, hard to click buttons, it lags, and now with the newest update I can’t even play mandatory quests. The developers need to go back to their roots and put back the old interface back. From there, they can continue to improve that, but I don’t know what they thought that lead their programming to here. The new reviews of the game speak for themselves. The users are unhappy and it seems that the devs can’t realize what needs to be done.

Ignore the old reviews and try this game!

This is a great game with some flaws, but if you like the game you’ll overlook them. First, I hope you won’t let the older reviews scare you off. I play this game on an iPhone and have no problems reading the cards and spaces. If the card appears small, touch it and it will enlarge so you can read it. Touch it again to return it to the board.I would recommend turning down the animations if you play it a lot, FYI, otherwise the game can be a battery killer though. This is a fun, engaging game with just enough strategy to be fun but not so much that you can’t multitask. You can play a game in 30 minutes which for me is perfect. If you enjoy board games, light strategy and/or fantasy settings, I would recommend giving it a try. Start with the basic game with two other players (if you play with one generated player, you will be relentlessly attacked so play with two). The Undermountain expansion adds a lot to the game without creating complexity, so I always play with it and I also recommend the extended play. The Skullport expansion is confusing in the app. I don’t play it. I don’t find it to be user friendly. But I never liked it all that much to begin with.Hope this review helps!

Fantastic Port of the Board Game

I’ve been playing the app for years, and actually bought the physical game because of how much I enjoyed it in digital form. I know people are complaining about the new UI, after the update, and as an old school player it did take some getting used to, but I really like the update now. Gameplay is smooth and easy. Multiplayer works well. The little touches such as the animations of birds flying overhead and ships coming in and out of port, as well as the thematic sounds effects just go to show what talented developers can do in digital to bring an analog game to life. Playdek rarely disappoints and they live up to their reputation in this adaptation. I have no complaints and highly recommend this app.

Notifications simply don't...

Good game, been playing constantly for years. Agree with the others that the Landscape board was not an improvement. But what kills me is that the Notifications simply don't work. Yes, it annoys me that once a game ends I get no notification, and it disappears entirely from the active games, so I have to go hunting for it- but the app being unable to simply notify a player it is their turn is the worst. We have to maintain a chat on Signal just to update each other on whose turn it is now. Speaks well to the game that we still play constantly. I have full faith this can be fixed, so please do.

Great game, deep game, interesting game.

I’ve read the reviews that the UI update sucked. I will never know, b/c I just got this game in a sale & I never played the old UI. I also learned to play the game by doing tutorials. Game seems really strategic, lots of possibilities, skill seems to matter a lot, and the opponent can really throw a monkey wrench into your plan. This game is pretty awesome! I’d suggest to devs that they allow old players a toggle to switch back to portrait UI and cards visible (I might try it out myself), but the game seems perfectly playable with this UI.Sidenote: I had similar experience with Pathfinder — early player, loved it, was hammering on Quest Mode & loving it — and then dev’s removed Quest Mode & the players rebelled, essentially killing the ratings & loyalty of the players. While I think this is also still a great game using D&D IP, I don’t understand why dev’s would intentionally alienate their loyal players just to push gamers to do more IAPs (which they won’t bc of the hate). GAMEDEVS: LEARNING OPPORTUNITY!!!
