Seriously, please fix some of these problems.

I’ve given this app a chance despite all the reviews, I don’t mind paying the monthly sub since I can afford it, but it really would be best if there was a flat out single payment like the desktop version. Second, the recent update has made it to where the app very frequently crashes/closes itself after having it run in the background for even a few minutes. It’s really frustrating when you’re trying to check for references or even just going to briefly do something else. It also clears out the recent files, closes out any canvases you have open and despite changing my auto save to every minute now, it doesn’t seem to save at all so I have to constantly remember to manually save.There are issues others have brought up as well that I personally haven’t experienced since I haven’t fully utilized the app but honestly, if these don’t get fixed I’ll probably be moving all my artwork off the app and try using something else because this is bad enough to where it’s more so fighting with the app to keep things working than actually getting any work done. It’s really sad to see that the iPad version of this program is so much of a detriment and nuisance compared to the desktop version, which is fairly solid in my experience with it.

Good software, dumb sub

Good: It’s a very good drawing software, and it makes it very convenient to draw on the go. Now that I don’t have the disconnect between a screen and my dinky little drawing tablet and can just draw directly on the ipad, my lineart comes out much more naturally.Bad: It can be a bit buggy at times; I’ve had it abruptly restart out of the blue while using it, meaning I lose anything I was working on if I haven’t saved recently. Luckily this doesn’t happen TOO much. I also think the subscription thing is a joke. I own CSP on my PC and still use it there (certain editing things are just easier to me on that version, plus it was a buy once and it’s yours type of normal deal). Being forced to sub just to own it on my ipad is aggravating. Just let me buy it and own it, good grief.

Outstanding and Underrated

I am very surprised to see the 3.2 average rating. After using the iPad version for three months now, I can confirm that it is worth much more than that.For a painting program, Clip Studio Paint is feature-rich and includes a natural vector editing approach, 3D modeling, comic illustration, and animation. It is the only program I know in which it is possible to treat vectors as pixels and still edit them as vectors. There is a Materials library for downloading content such as brushes, patterns, 3D models, and more.Unlike the desktop version, the program is very easy to understand and does not involve a deep learning curve. Everything is very start forward, and the UI resembles a desktop familiarity. You can easily customize shortcuts, and you are informed what the finger gestures are right in the software. This saves time from having to launch the internet and research.The price for the iPad version is $1 a month for Pro and $2.50 for Ex. In comparison to the desktop version, you save a whole lot more money and still have all the same features. The iPad version also improves in its performance whereas the Mac version got very buggy (in Mojavi anyway).I absolutely love this program, and I decided that I will be making Patreon videos on a series of tutorials. I have been using Affinity Designer for a long time, but I am starting to shift to this program now for my cartooning approach. Great job!

I’ve given up on it

It’s very clear that Celsys has no interest in making Clip Studio work with the iOS file manager (the “Files” app). It doesn’t let me open from, or save directly to, iCloud Drive or any other cloud service, and I can’t even drag and drop my files in and out of the app. This is absurd and makes backing up a nightmare if I don’t want to use their cloud service, which I have no interest in doing because I like to keep all my work files in one place and I’m already paying for iCloud. It also doesn’t want people to install custom brushes from any source other than their “assets” web site. It’s doable, but again, there’s no drag and drop functionality and I have to manually open each individual brush file and import into Clip Studio, which is a nightmare when you have a large collection of brushes.This is just a port of the desktop app with some touch gestures thrown in. It was not really made with the iPad in mind, and it shows. So after a year of fighting with it to make it fit with my workflow, I’ve officially given up and canceled my subscription. I’m sticking with ProCreate.

Good software with a subscription

Clip Studio Paint (CSP) a vary powerful pice of software. It seems capable of pretty much anything I need. Unfortunately though I can’t justify paying a subscription for something I use for a hobby. If I was getting paid for the art I made. I could see myself paying for a subscription. I’d totally pay another $200 for a one time v2 EX licensees on my iPad. It could even be done simmer to how Affinity team removed their v1 apps from being purchased after they released new apps labeled V2 so that when V3 rolls around I can pay you gain.

Might be better than procreate

My main point I want to make is that clip studio does not get enough love and that people are missing a lot of what makes it great. I think the low ratings are in part because other apps such as procreate are so popular and super affordable, and for serious and novice artists they’re great, however more suited for casual illustration and concept art. I find that with clip studio I don’t have much need for my desktop these days and could see that happening more as the Apple Pencil becomes more advanced. Clip studio is so fast and powerful, not to mention way more diverse than other apps. You get 3D functionality, vectors along side natural paint brushes, more complex layer operations, access to community brushes and presets and more features that are akin to photoshop that are sorely missed in every other app. They even have a navigator window! If you want to make cute doodles, then no, don’t get this app for $10 a month. But for someone who spends 70 hours or more a month drawing and makes money off of illustrating then its a drop in the bucket. However, I’d have to agree that they need to fix cloud saves, exporting images and files integration.

Professional Artist Review: Life Changing / 5 Stars

TLDR: BEST IPAD ART SOFTWARE DETAILS: I am a professional illustrator, storyboard artist, animator and recently a tattoo artist also. I always used Photoshop with Wacom tablets or a Cintiq, but when M1 iPad Pro came out I finally had hope I could stop dealing with Wacom and desktop computer and only use the ipad. This product: Clip Studio paint, has allowed me to totally work on iPad, for ANY kind of illustration work (it also is great for animation). This software, on ipad, is so good it literally hanged me life. This is a fully functional desktop style software, but the coolest thing besides the huge amount of features and seamless workflow, is the CUSTOMIZABILITY of the interface - it’s insane: you can completely design the layout to easily include the tools you use, and hide everything else. AND it has excellent HOTKEY support: you can choose all your own hot keys, and save separate workspaces (I have a ‘comic’ workspace, a ‘storyboard’ workspace etc.). You can go ever deeper with the customization and design how the pop up windows work - like if you use the selection tool to grab a piece of an image, you can choose which options pop up beneath the selection (free transform, warp, etc). This is the best software ever created, 100% could not recommend any higher, maximum gratitude to this company.

Perfect

That this is almost an exact copy of the desktop version is amazing to me. I can easily and flawlessly swap where I am working with no effort. Any downsides with file management are because of apple's bad OS; the workarounds CSP offers me at no additional cost solves the problem with no trouble. Using their cloud feature makes it a breeze to move my files to PC and I can swiftly import my brushes that way as well. Zero lag, flawless autosave performance. It never crashes and I bought a good enough device that it never closes unnecessarily. Most other reviews that don't complain about subscriptions and instead focus on performance obviously have underpowered machines trying to run this professional software. Seeing as how I got the PC version of CSP on sale for a pittance and have made tens of thousands of dollars using it on commercial work, I'll gladly pay the subscription cost here to get portability while still escaping the horribly expensive adobe platform. I want Celsys to succeed because this is frankly the best and most flexible illustration/comic software I have ever used.

Clip studio is great, BUuuut there's one problem thats stopping this to be a 5 star review

I've been a clip studio user for about 6 months now and I really like it a lot, I have created so much artworks in the span of those months and I use it a lot when my iPad storage is nearly full because it takes the iCloud storage instead which is really handy. Overtime I have encountered a few problems here and there but they were never really big for me to say screw clip studio, u n t i l t h i s o n e. Everytime when I draw something that I really like it doesn't freakin save. I know it's on me because I forget to save the file sometimes but autosave is a thing and it's not working. I had so many layers worth of work that I really liked and a I thought that clip studio saved it automatically so I went to bed, and when I woke up this morning I found out that it did not save 7 layers worth of stuff. SEVEN!!! That took me like at least two hours so how come it didn't save automatically??? This is like the 10th time and I thought that the bug was fixed. B uT, other than that, it's a pretty decent program and I do recommend it if you can afford it, just please everyone, remember to save Everytime you exit the app or you'll end up grieving over something stupid like i just did.Thank you and goodnight ✌️

Lost a lot of progress because the app refreshes and auto closes at the worst times

I love drawing here, and I use my iPad, but I’ve lost so much work because I attempt to save my file, only to get an error message. I go to clear some space to allow me to save my file, only to find that when I tab back to the Clip Studio app, it has closed itself and all my work is gone. So my attempt to make space to save my data winds up being yet another waste of time. Thankfully I save often, but it feels like three steps forward and one step back. It’s obnoxious and infuriating and I keep losing valuable work time because it gets deleted into the void. Oh, and the auto save is not accessible later on either. I go to try and find the auto save in hopes of recovering my work, but there isn’t even a location to find the auto save files, so if the program doesn’t feel like opening your auto save when it refreshes itself and closes without your consent, you can’t get your auto save back either. If you get an error message on the iPad that your file could not be saved, you might as well kiss your work goodbye.
