Everything is paywalled

I know it’s a free drawing app and not many features are to be expected from something of no cost BUT that doesn’t excuse the paywalling. With most free drawing apps like ibis paint or sketchbook most features are usable, most aren’t the best but still accessible. With apps like art set, you can’t really do anything without being forced to pay for it. Of course you must take into consideration the fact that the developers have to pay for things too and live their lives trying to make money off of an app, but some things just shouldn’t be paywalled. Layers, brush sizing, any feature you would need in a drawing app, unusable. I found it quite disappointing as it was actually quite an interesting to use just not for twelve dollars. Again, when compared to other drawing apps it is just practically useless. There are some features that you could make art with, but it would be ten times harder without the necessary features. I’m used to sketchbook because it actually has pretty good features on it. If you’re taking my advice, just look at other free drawing apps, this just isn’t the best option for most. If you like, ok, I just personally find it hard to use.

The perfect business model for consumers

The very first thing that made me fall in love with this app was the fact that instead of implementing a pay wall like LITERALLY ever other drawing app, they decided to let you watch ads in return for extra features. The ad they played was only about 30 seconds as well. I’m not much of a drawer, but now I’m feeling pretty motivated to really start. Not sure of how well this model works for the software devs, but for the consumer it makes using the platform that much more appealing. Everybody says they don’t want to see ads, but if you give an incentive for watching them (especially something as small as a 30 second ad for instagram) most people will take the ad and continue to use the app. In my head it seems to work pretty well for both sides because any time I see a pay wall for an app, I immediately delete it along with many other consumers. At no cost the customer is usually pretty satisfied, but this also happens to be an amazing app even if it was necessary to pay to access more key features.

So many way to make great art!

I am loving this app. At first I didn’t understand how powerful it was. The paid version is really awesome and for the price, worth every penny. I cannot believe how many options and how flexible this app is in allowing me to do things I would value in procreate and sketchbook pro but, with much richer paint textures. I love the 3D paint textures and the ability to create depth with the paint and not just the shadows. Please keep supporting this app. It really is wonderful and I hope that more people find it and enjoy what it offers. There is so much room to be creative. I am also enjoying the ability to import photos, the cut function, the layers, the layer settings, well…there just so much to work with that it’s so easy to be creative and also paint with what I think are the hands down BEST paint textures I have been able to find in an iPad app. The textures is what got me to purchase the app, the other capabilities are what are keeping me using it everyday. There is also a help section where they have posted an easy to read documentation. Once you go through that, the app becomes soooo easy to use and figure out. I also wanted to add that yes, you can make a square frame and the sizing is flexible which I love.

Best art game yet but some things to doubt

Hi it’s horse lover 33 and I love this game it’s so much fun I let me creativity fly all around the room I’m in and at the final moment when done I’ll be like Pablo the famous artist this game is great if you want to become an artist you can always find inspiration to draw like in New York I saw a lovely painting of a girl in a space ship that showed the outside so I used that as my inspiration witch it’s really easy once you try painting in real life and I don’t even need a stylus for this game I can paint with my finger. I found out that if you get an inspiration this game is so easy I used to paint terrible paintings in experienced so if you take your time you’ll have a great painting. That’s all the good news now it’s time to talk about the glitches. The first thing I noticed is that once you have it for a while you can’t paint anymore witch means I have to delete the app luckily it only happens when you have it but don’t play it this game is awesome I’m so proud of the game creators thanks so much for making it awesome so if you are new to the game read this my tips enjoy and look for more by horse lover 33

The Best. Period.

Hey, what do I know…anyway, I’ve downloaded most, if not all of the drawing/painting apps for my iPad/Pencil combination. In summary, ArtSet is the only one of them all, that when giving it a first try, just got out of the way and let my mind connect with it…It just ended up making me smile at how much fun and ease it it was at first… when I needed it to become powerful and deliver some complex effects, they just happened. Easily. It’s the most intuitive app out there to my mind by far. The others, I’m sure are fantastic… but when I tried them out, I just ended up staring at the tools, and after a few minutes, meh. Now, my art is totally in lockstep with this app, and I dread the day it may not be updated and working with future generations of iPads, etc as can be the case with small, brilliant developers like lopofi. But, that’s true of any medium more complex then a box of crayons…. My recommendation? Along with all of the others, try this app too, and don’t be surprised if you fall in love it hit. QUICKLY. Cheers.

Found Some Bugs While Using the Layers and Cut & Paste Tools

While using the Layers Tool and circling a big area using the Cut & Paste tool, I found a Bug that causes all the circled strokes to freeze up and then I was able to paint on strokes while having the Cut & Paste menu still on, then when I click the X button to close the tool, it clears all the strokes I circled with anyway of getting them back (Undoing & Redoing doesn’t work as I would get errors for both actions). Another Bug I found is caused but pressing the Undo button many times when you have many strokes on different Layers in different Opacities. It’s difficult to describe it, but it causes the canvas to add Layers in that Tool’s menu even though I hadn’t interacted with it, it also caused the second layer to duplicate itself but smaller. This bug actually managed to crash and close the Art Set 4 App and when I reopened it, it took me to a blank canvas that has been added to the art collection. So yeah, I don’t think I’ll be using anymore layers in my future projects anytime soon if it’s risking the app to crash for good :(

Great features, not professional

For an iPad application the simulation brushes are amazing. I can’t run apples doing this on my fairly new desktop, and considered buying the pro version just for that. Not being able to choose canvas size and resolution is a HUGE oversight from a professional app. The use of two vastly different U.I.s depending on where you create a file from is also very confusing, you should be able to toggle between the two if anything. On top of this, while I understand locking some content behind a paywall, I don’t see how you can create future customers while locking different brush sizes and layers behind a paywall. I can’t pay $10 for this app currently, I’d like to, but I can’t and I can’t use this app in any practical sense until I can. People in my situation will likely delete this app five to ten minutes after downloading, despite the astounding quality, and it’s up in the air whether I’ll remember to download it again. I’d gladly sit though an ad before I open or after I close my canvas to support this development team, if that helps any.

Not able to create square canvas

I’ve been a user of the ArtSet app from when it first hit the AppStore and upgraded to the pro set. A fabulous app for $10! Love the different tools and it’s a very robust art app, definitely well worth the money and a HUGE thanks to the developers for not making it a subscription app. I’m loving working with the different brushes and new features. One issue I’m having though is I work in the square 99.5% of the time. When I type in a square dimension the app elongates the canvas in a strange way but won’t allow me to make a square. I’ve tried pixels, points, and inches to no avail. Hoping this is a minor bug and annoyance in an otherwise stellar app. Thank you LOFOPI for continuing to make ArtSet a wonderful and user friendly alternative to Procreate. The India Ink is just lovely and I love the way the tool set is so intuitive. Are the slow draw option is such a welcome addition. Highly highly recommend this app in your art arsenal. Ten stars. Please fix square canvas option. 😁

Still exploring..needs gesture Undo

I’ve been using this app now for a few weeks and I’m enjoying the nature of the full suite of tools. There’s much to explore and endless hours of experimenting ahead. For now I’ll say I’m truly enjoying it. It’s great for conceptualizing as a designer and I can see spending hours with each tool just expressing with the different types of media. The tools are lag free (iPad Pro 12”). The only “request” I have that I can’t seem to live without at the moment is a two-finger (gesture) tap erase function, which has become standard on many of the top art apps competing with this one. It’s just second nature at this point for many of us using Procreate or Paper to 2 finger tap to erase, so I find myself having to look for the undo button. That can become frustrating after a while if your hand is at rest and you are trying to achieve a certain style that requires accuracy with more editing (it’s just tedious and poorly located as a touch button). I did look for a way to set tools as hand gestures and found none at this point so I’m guessing it doesn’t exist (would be happy if I were wrong). Otherwise, this is an amazing app, far better than the other 3D paint apps out there. Worth it and will bring hours of enjoyment for mixed media designers or art lovers.

Crashes

I really enjoy this app and think it is well designed. I have had this app for about 3 days and have had several crashes. The first crash was when I was drawing and opened the colors for one of the brushes. It returned my work to when I last saved it. I tried opening the colors 3 more times but it froze, wouldn’t let me pick a color, then crashed out of the app. I continued to use a different brush and it started working. The second crash was when I was blending. I was was blending then suddenly the top fifth of my paper returned to how it was when I only had a few things on the drawing. I tried hitting undo but it undid the blending and didn’t change the top. I checked the layers and I looked like my first layer was completely erased. I hit undo a few more times to see if it would fix itself. The top returned to normal but two spots of my paper returned to how they were in the past just as the top had. I checked the layers again and it looked like it doubled the 2nd layer. Then it crashed. I restarted the app and opened it a few more times and it crashed as soon as I would pick an artwork.
