Getting better

I have been using AFLETE for years and try to leave a review with each update because I believe this app can be truly great…it’s just not quite there yet. Functionality: seems to be improving, but God forbid you go into the “details” section for workouts you’ve done before. I’m completing a program for the second time (I reset the guide), and if I go into the details section to leave a note or see my set history, my workout freezes completely. This has been a problem for a long time. Resetting the guide has generally led to issues since some of the exercises didn’t reset and still show as completed with the weights I used last time. Areas for improvement: the default number of reps for an exercise is how many you completed last time, not how many that particular workout is calling for. Not really helpful when you are following a set program. This really needs to change or at least be a default option. Minor thing, but it would be really convenient to be able to swipe down to exit a video. It would also be really nice to download an entire workout, but it’s not a feature I absolutely need. Finally, thank you for making it so that accidentally swiping out of the workout doesn’t cancel the whole thing anymore! I hope AFLETE keeps improving, and please please fix the issues with reset guides.

Good workouts, absolutely terrible UI

Ive never left reviews but I pray that a designer or engineer will see this review and improve this app. The only reason I use this app is to access natacha’s workouts. Otherwise the UI of this app is among the worst I’ve ever used. First off it clicks away from your workout page really easily if you accidentally swipe to the right and deletes all progress of your workout, you have to stay on the page throughout the whole workout without logging into other apps to save your timer. It also bugs out and inputs the incorrect number of reps and weights often. If you’re doing a time based rep it won’t even track it. Compared to formats like alive by Whitney or Sweat, the video is already not intuitive to view, it doesn’t automatically restart, and requires specifically clicking in the top left corner to exit from rather than a general swipe. The app has deleted my data before and lost my progress as well. It’s so buggy and overall if it weren’t for natacha, I would not be on this app at all. Please fix the bugs and improve the UI.

Absolutely phenomenal—worth every penny.

Going to the gym always gave me anxiety, and even when I’d push through it and go, I didn’t really know exactly what to do. I’d often go in without a plan and just do what I was used to and comfortable with and (naturally) wouldn’t see results, and get discouraged. This year for Christmas, I treated myself to both of Kate’s guides and I’ve already started to see results. I love that the app provides you with videos on exactly how to do each workout, a section to track how much weight you lift, and that the app sends you alerts which motivates you to get back to the gym. I never really loved the gym, but this workout guide (currently on #1 but already bought her second one lol) has taught me to push past my comfort zone, stay consistent, be patient, love myself with where I’m at right now, be proud of myself, AND I have started to looooove going to the gym (something I always used to just tolerate). Thank you Kate for creating an amazing guide—it’s brought me confidence, a love for fitness, a love for the gym, and the motivation I needed to stay on track. This guide is TRULY invaluable. 100% worth the investment because it’s an investment in YOURSELF!! It’s been one of the best things I ever did for myself! Thank you x 100! Xoxo

Previous weights lifted & poor detailed instructions

This function does not work properly..Does not save your previous weights lifted like it says it does. Information disappears after you save your workout and you cannot go back to reference it. Also the workouts lack any instructions whatsoever...If you are a beginner then this is really not for you since it lacks so much information. I had to lookup how to do numerous workouts since most workouts do not have a video showing you how to do it. Meal plan lacks much needed information on how to execute it properly. There were spelling errors throughout the whole program as well. Overall you guys should be embarrassed about how your platform is being utilized. I purchased this program from somebody off Instagram with over 1 million followers!! You would think the level of professionalism would be MUCH MUCH higher. I can only imagine how many people have felt lost and frustrated when using this app. SAVE YOUR MONEY. You can find free workout plans and meal plans online that would be much more beneficial and informative then what this offers you.

Outstanding.

I’ve never seen or even heard of anything like this app. It’s amazing. It’s an ultimate, convenient tool for people to follow an athlete’s workout. It’s a great way to monitor your time spent exercising, notes per workout, reps, sets, splits, dates, and more. I love how every time I’m on a workout, I can easily see the dates/notes/stats of my last workout to clearly give me direction. Highly recommend it to anyone interested in taking their fitness to the next level. After 1 week, I’m already obsessed. For the creators, I’d like to see an option that displays in the reps that you weren’t able to complete the amount of reps that the workout provides. I understand that you can leave a comment in the notes but I’d like to see it display on the main screen with the reps. Maybe in like red font showing me in the future that “hey you weren’t able to get all of the reps required.” This will help me know what weights to use in the future times I try that exercise. Thank you for reading this!

Excellent!

I have always found it difficult to create my own workout plan and stick to it, with the guide I know exactly what I’m doing when I get to the gym and I have no excuses! It pushes your boundaries and it’s fun to see how you progress with each exercise because you can read notes you left on that workout from previously as well as what weights you used. The videos make it super simple to see what you’re doing and you don’t have to google what you’re about to do. I am only 3 weeks in and I feel like my muscles are more pronounced (I am using cut reload). 10/10 would recommend to anyone trying to get their fitness routine sorted! For 6 months of consistently half doing at the gym 5 days a week, going 4 days a week using this program really has made the world of difference! I would say one negative is sometimes mid workout the app crashes and you lose your time stamp and have to renter your workouts, however the weight you were at is still there you just have to tap the buttons again so not a super big deal.

Love my trainer’s guide, not so much the app

I find the app to be glitchy, response time is often delayed when tapping selections/buttons in general. If you switch apps it may lose your timer progress or you may have to re-input your reps. The design is quite basic and that would be alright so long as it worked seamlessly. A couple sessions were not logging after completed. A few times I had to re-select them as completed and it worked for most. I contacted support and it seems they still have to figure out what causes the issue. When clicking out of videos sometimes the arrow (which is tiny so you have to be very precise, not the easiest when your muscles are buzzing from a workout) does not respond to touch at all, so I have to rotate my screen a few times for it to respond. I’ve also had it freeze on a screen and I have to close and re-open the app, again losing tracking. It just very, very glitchy, and yes you can get around it mostly, but I’m disappointed as I feel there are other apps which are better and more fluid. For the record I love my trainer Natacha Oceane, but find it annoying to use the app every day.

Not impressed with updates

I used to love using the Aflete app but I’ve been very frustrated with the updates. Logging reps and weight is much more cumbersome and time consuming that it was before. For example, logging my rep weight requires me to click the text box, type the numbers, click ‘track’ which hides the number pad, so I have to click ‘track’ a second time. Previously I only had to scroll the wheel to my weight and click track. Way simpler and quicker. I also don’t like that my music pauses when I play a video in the app. It didn’t do that before but now I have to go back to my music app and restart the music after watching a demo video.Generally speaking I find the app much slower and less responsive to my touch/actions than before. I wish I had the option to use the old version again. All of these changes result in much more time spent on my phone during my workouts which is a huge frustration. I’m in the gym to work out, not fiddle with my phone. Unfortunately my trainer chooses this app to load her workouts so I have to live with these changes, but this will probably cause me to stop using the functionally within each workout and just mark the entire workout as complete as I finish them.

Exercise Check Box Limitations

I love this app! The only problems I have with it are that if you have multiple sets of the same exercises (with the same number of reps) on the same day, when you do one of them and check it off it automatically marks the other iterations of that exercise complete, too. So when I have three circuits of burpees for 30 seconds each, when I finish the first one and mark it done, it marks all the sets of burpees as being done. This is annoying because I can’t accurately track how far I am into my workout! Also, this app doesn’t work well with progressive overloading. I have three sets of squats, with the first one at 50% max weight, second set at 75% max, and third at full max weight. Unfortunately, when it asks me to input the amount of weight I’m using each time, it erases the weight I used for the set before that and replaces it with the new number. Fix these things, and the app would be perfect!

Download this to save your life

Hi y’all. A little context — I’ve struggled with body dysmorphia and anorexia/bulimia my whole life. For me, exercise is the best way to keep those demons in check, and with the pandemic and gyms closing I was extremely depressed and frightened that without an outlet and all the other amazing benefits of exercise, my EDs would flare up again. I’m the type of person who’s tried every workout this and that and hadn’t been able to find an at home program that I could actually stick with consistently, so I was scared and desperate until my best friend introduced me to *drum roll* Natacha! Not only are the workouts paced — one workout, including breaks, takes only 60min — they are manageable, trackable, and varied. I literally have not done the same exercise twice and after 10 weeks, I’m stronger than I could have imagined, physically and mentally. Unlike other apps, Natacha guides you in slowly so you don’t get discouraged — the first week is challenging but MANAGEABLE, so you don’t want to quit after day 1. I love this app, I have so much gratitude for Natacha and I hope this review helps someone to take that step and invest in yourself.
