Wonderful work for one developer

The game itself was more like a story than a puzzle, i feel like more of them could be added. The plot was wonderful, I loved the character development, the style of it was slightly reminiscent of a separate puzzle based game called The Guides, there was one puzzle which I couldn’t figure out without hints, the one with the key and roman numerals. The storyline had me completely immersed, plot twists had foreshadowing, I loved the flow of things, the creativity and problem solving. The bits of character revealed at the end of each test were wonderful as well, while playing I was reminded of a movie called I Am Mother of course they weren’t nearly close in plot, but the base idea was similar which I liked, the amount of detail put into it was wonderful, in general I give all the acclaim I can, especially towards the storyline, and I hope to see more games like this in the future, great job. Keep making more like this and you’re sure to create great things.

Didn’t like the story, puzzles were okay

After all the 5 star reviews, I figured this must be a pretty universally satisfying game. It wasn’t. So I thought I should write a quick contrary review. I can see that some love was put into the puzzle creation, but it’s one of those games where you have to guess what the designer thinks the puzzle answer is, rather than what will necessarily be like a satisfying answer. (“I’m reversing the order of each word in the sentence, so does that mean the designer thinks I should also reverse the order of the entire sentence?”)The story was a little depressing, and I didn’t feel like pushing through it any further. If you actually read the story, you’ll probably spend more of your time reading than doing puzzles. In between the story and puzzles, there are psychological questions, and at the end of each chapter the game will pass judgment on you, which is also annoying. (“Too optimistic,” “too ungrateful,” “a wanna-be martyr,” etc.)If you miss a puzzle, the game’s judgment might be “The subject has trouble with poblem-solving” [sic]Yes, in the midst of being judgmental, the game also has typos which makes you question whether you can trust the thoughtfulness of its puzzles.I wouldn’t mind a streamlined cruise through some of the game’s puzzles, which again look like some love was put into them. But you can’t do the puzzles without the other elements, the proportions were wrong, and I did not enjoy the overall effect.

Great Puzzler, Great Plot

Well, Skot, you've consumed a few of my hours, so far. I've played the main game and am now working on those Easter eggs. I still need a few. I've replayed a few times to try and see if they were hidden there, but I'm still not sure what to do. I need a few more, the Tree, Ghost, 1124 and 11:11. I'll figure it out, eventually.The game itself was very immersive, as your description would suggest. I needed a bit of help on a few of them, my first time around. While the hints worked for most, I could not, for the life of me, understand the spider key. I had to look that one up. Creative. The puzzles were generally doable, even if I had to resort to hints, a few times. My first play through took about an hour or so. While some may say that isn't worth the price, I quite enjoyed the story itself. Predictable, at times. Even so, the introspective aspect was something that really interested me. I enjoyed it, at least. In addition, while I did only spend an hour the first time, I've replayed several times. Right now, I think I've spent a total of four or five hours on the game. Well worth the price, I would say. Thanks for the game.Tl;dr: Challenging but doable puzzles, interesting if a bit short and predictable plot. Recommended to anyone who likes text-based games with good plot. Not recommended to someone who can't stand puzzlers and/or can't bear to spend money on games.

I have one problem with the game (so far)

I noticed in the puzzles it asks forthe brief explanation, but you can’t actually write it. The explanation the game gives, especially when you compare mother to the desert or spider, are alot more hateful and agressive than my actual reasoning for choosing those awnsers. Like in the first puzzle, I said mother was like the desert, meaning she was harsh and pushed you to your limits in order for you to learn, but the breif response that was given was something like “mother is cruel are harsh” or something like that. Ik that like theres not rlly a solution to this but like i feel like it’s putting words in my mouth and making my character seem alot more hateful than I intended for him to be. Ik it’s nit-picky but its really the only problem I have with it so far and it does kinda take me out of the game. I feel like if we could wrote our own awnsers but it like just doesnt affect the outcome at all that’d be cool, cause its not like the breif response actually affects anything, only the awnser you choose. I dunno its really fun game tho.

Great Writing, emotional story!!

Skot! Am doing as I m told to ;-) Thank you thank you for this experience. I want more of your work! I hope you will eventually have this as a novel as well. In a mere couple of hours you have definitely earned a fan. Currently the puzzles are just hard enough but not breaking the flow and enthusiasm to continue the story. Though I didn't get the fear + surprise initially as I thought it had to rhyme and the answer didn't quite make sense in the context. As feedback, I think the puzzles are fine now, but they have so so much potential to be further integrated to the emotional flow and the stages of the tests. Short of doing Meyer Briggs or Strength Finders but there could be a lot of psyc tests that can build into the flow of the story that make the reader invest even more personal connection. Plus of course you can also make this highly replay-able by allowing the 99 wrong paths :-)

absolutely stunning

i’m not going to lie, i had my doubts at first. when it comes to text read sort of games, i’m not really a big fan. i’m very visual, so i thought it would be hard for me to enjoy the experience. however, the game is actually very aesthetically pleasing and also has a gorgeous soundtrack. there were many subtle details that i thought were very clever. the fact that a small note halfway in the game extends the experience in a separate function was also really cool to me. the storyline was beautiful. i almost cried when i received my first ending. the characters and the dynamics are all very real and they have a very special place in my heart. although the game was short, it made a very lasting impression. my only complaint is that there weren’t many options that were tailored to quite what i believed. when i chose something for one reason, the reason the character wrote down in-game wasn’t what i was thinking at all. i had an entirely different perspective. that said, the game was always one step ahead. i was in for quite an enjoyable surprise. i’m so glad to have had a chance to play this and forever thankful to my friend who knew my tastes in games. this game was on another level that most mobile games try and fail to achieve. thank you, developers, so much for creating an amazing experience. 12/10 recommend. if you want an investing storyline with intriguing and thoughtful elements, this is the game for you.

Worth every penny - an immersive, compelling, and beautifully simple experience

It was a short little game (though it says there's more secrets, and I look forward to exploring those just as soon as I finish writing this!) You'll find yourself anticipating what's going to happen, as some of the plot devices are recycled, but then there's twists that are so satisfying. At no point did it feel stale, every character felt distinctive and real. I found myself thinking of what I'd do in Able Black's position, found myself relating to their cycling emotions.I don't write reviews, ever, because I don't know what to say. I don't buy apps, because I work a part-time minimum wage job, and when I do buy them, I always feel guilty for it.Not this time. I don't regret it at all, this was a completely enjoyable experience from beginning to end.And that's why I'm writing a review. Because I would absolutely love to see more from this developer.

Breathtaking.

This is possibly the best mobile game I've ever played. The story scenes are well written with beautiful ambient noises and music, as well as pretty colorful designs that contrast with the black background and white text. The only issue I found is on the end test results for the 4th exam, there is a misspelling of you're, spelled your. The puzzles in this game are very challenging and really require you to think. The spider key one really stumped me, and I had to look up an online walk through to solve it. Even better, once the story is done, there are a few mini games and other features that can be unlocked and played around with. My only question is where do you go after you beat the high score of 143 and read Skot's note? I haven't found an answer. All in all, this is a beautiful and thought provoking game with challenging puzzles and an interesting story. I would love to see more of these in the future. Great job Skot.

OMG THIS IS SINGLE HANDEDLY THE BEST APP GAME IVE EVER PLAYED

EDIT I TOTALLY DIDN'T KNOW THERE WAS MORE TO THE GAME AFTER THE STORYLINE IM EVEN MORE IMPRESSED.I’m beyond just beyond impressed, it’s really hard for me to find mobile games or apps that I really can get into and actually be willing to sit and play throughly.. BUT THIS.. THIS IS A MASTERPIECE. I love the way the game actually makes you think it correlation with real life and real time. I love the psychology I love the story line, I love everything about this game. Only because I’m super greedy I could’ve sat here and played this through even if it was a 10 hour game... & ( I really wish it was ) I can only hope because I’m actually obsessed with this game that they either come out with a longer maybe episode two or a longer game like it, I mean heck I’ll take anything at this point. I’m gonna replay again and see if it’s any different ...and then I’m gonna lay again and probably again after that, idk I’m absolutely amazed. Like I said I’ve been on the App Store for years and there has NEVER been a game that even comes close to this. Alright I’m done, but seriously take my advice and PLAY IT.

Definitely adding this to my favorites

This game was absolutely astonishing. I was scouting the App Store looking for a new app and stumbled upon Able Black. I thought I’d try it out, it was free after all so no harm in that. After sinking some odd hours into this I have to say I’m definitely impressed. For such a simple game my mind had been blown. I’m not a huge fan of the text adventure genre as a whole, but this game might have changed my mind. The story is one of a kind and send many you on a journey where it’s time you turn a corner there is another surprise waiting for you. At this point my only complaint would be that there isn’t enough. I want more. It’s just so good. And I love the addition of the Easter eggs! The puzzles were very challenging at times and it felt like I needed to wrap my brain around them. So thank you Skot for an amazing journey into this astonishing world of Mother.
