Video playback and image display bugs!

Ever since a big update several months ago, the videos on the front page can’t be viewed properly in landscape mode. A huge portion the picture would be cut off on the top and bottom, so only the middle section of the whole picture shows. Even when the videos are viewed in portrait mode, edges of the picture are cut off slightly, which doesn’t really affect the whole picture, unless there are words at the edges. The videos will be shown in full screen automatically and cannot, I repeat, CANNOT be resized, regardless of which mode viewed.Some images and gif will be oversized as well when clicked on, and requires to be resized, but some images cannot be resized and would require the viewing device (in my case, iPad mini 2) to be switched to the upright portrait mode.The videos in SinaNews that shows up in “messages” can never be played out ever since who knows when.Oh, another thing, automatic video playback cannot be turned off when viewing videos in series, once one video finishes, the app will scroll down and play the next (sometimes I like to watch the same video more than once, I would be happier without having to keep scrolling up to play it over!)Other than those annoying problems aforementioned, the app is fun for entertainment and socialization.

Lacking English Support

There are many Chinese living or born overseas who would love to keep up-to-date and communicate with others from their motherland. Unfortunately not all have the opportunity to learn the Chinese language. Please consider adding in an auto-translate function for ENGLISH, similar to the existing features available on Twitter and other social media platforms. Cheers!

Community management is a joke

I get that each app has its term of service, but Weibo is at a whole another level. It has extremely opaque standard as to what constitutes a violation of the TOS. I was being silenced for 3 days last week for no particular reason. During this period, I could not comment, message, post anything. I did not receive any explanation to this, nor could I find any customer service rep to look into it. After being frozen for 3 days, today I noticed that my account is frozen AGAIN! I didn’t even post anything that would remotely constitute a violation! and this is a day after I just paid it’s monthly subscription! Terrible service and unfair treatment to its paying customers. Stay away from this app.

Really needs an international update

I’ve been using this app for about 3 years or so, though it has an “English” language settings, it’s just parcial and a lot of of the settings and options are still not translated. It used to be very simple to update your profile picture and today i have spent over 45 minutes looking around for the option. The platform has been made now to hinder your output to the public more than ever. This app is available on the american market and it should be updated with proper english and spanish translations for all settings and options, not just partially

Quite honestly

I throughly enjoy this app. It’s the best place for Chinese celebrity news. App is in Chinese, which is a given since it’s a social media app based in China, centered around Chinese entertainment and marketing, so be prepared to use a translator app (I use Google Translate) or have an understanding of the written and spoken Chinese. Yes I generalize, because Mandarin is not the only Chinese language spoken, but Google Translate does a decent job.I know people have mentioned bugs, but this app updates, frequently, like almost once a week. I have only experienced one bugs after an update, and it was fixed after a month, so knock on wood.I also do not pay for the app and only use the free version. There is a section in your profile that allows you to become a premium member for a small monthly fee. I would rather not risk having an issue and having to deal with Weibo’s customer service. I have bo clue if they have any fluent English speakers available to talk to 🤷‍♀️

Used this because I could no longer login to the website

Like some other reviewers, I forgot the phone number I used to login to the Weibo account I had back when it was still accessible by desktop, so I had to use my email and password. (If I had forgotten my password, I don’t think I would have hope of reclaiming my account 🥺)However, when I used my phone number to login from another device, it was an entirely new account. Not to mention I haven’t been able to login to Weibo by desktop for 2 years now 😩 Please fix this, Sina Weibo.

Be aware: they spy your location even you choose never use my location.

I turned off the location when downloaded this app, and made sure they cannot track my location. But every day I got the local news and advertisements. Some of the videos shows not available to show if my location. I don’t know how can they possible spy my location after I turned it off, but it is a big issue for Apple to check on, especially this is a Chinese app while used in the US.

Terrible experience for foreigners

DO NOT FORGET YOUR LOGIN INFORMATION. I wanted to start using another Weibo app similar to Weibo, but I don’t know the phone number I used to register for a Weibo account years ago when I first came to China. After 2 hours with customer service (using my broken Chinese because they have no English service or instructions), I was informed that the only way to authenticate my account and re-bind a new phone number was to provide a Chinese ID card number (which I don’t have clearly as a foreigner). Customer service then apologized since I can no longer use any Weibo apps until maybe sometime in the future they allow authentication with passport numbers. Very disappointed.

I have never had so much hassle before. I used to have an account like 10 years ago but then since it required linking with mobile number, here came the chaos. I entered my number but later time when it asked SMS verification again, my account couldn’t be verified because of the format and I guess it got sent to some number in China, so I lost the account and I stopped using it. After a long while, I created another account and linked it with the same mobile number and everything was fine until it asked for SMS verification again since I changed to new phone, but I never retrieved the same 2nd account.. 🤪 I hate it when I have to recreate and manage my following list again and again. Guess I’ll just have to quit it..

Steal your personal information

If I can give zero star, I would. Besides all unnecessary personal information they collect due to some ridiculous Chinese law, this app now displays your location (country if you don’t live in China, city if you live in China) in order to prevent so called “fake news” or “rumors”. This is so ironic considering governor's accounts, KOLs, or paid users can filter/hide/delete comments or content they don’t want or like, so all comments under those posts are either not by real users or do not represent real reactions of its users. This app itself encourages their most influential users to produce fake content, why bother censoring individual users?
