Only works with a subscription fee.

Only works with a subscription fee. Doesn’t tell you until after you make an account and add 1 item. Pretty shady practice especially from consumer reportsEdit: no you were not upfront on your Instagram ad. Which lead right to the download. And I’m sure it a method of a decent amount of traffic to your new app.Secondly. Regardless of wording on the install page. There’s too many accounts I need to have in todays world. The least you can do is notify me of the cost BEFORE I give you my personal info. Now. Even though I’ll never use the app, I have an account floating around. And should consumer reports ever get hacked there’s just one more avenue for my personal information be out there

Worthwhile and Very Detailed

I don’t know how people are complaining about the cost of the app, which is very obvious even before downloading it, and it comes after a *90-day* free trial, which is very generous as far as apps go. Even then, is $4.99 a month, and as a first-time homeowner, that’s nothing to save me the hassle (and inevitable cost) of figuring it all out myself. Still more, the details are exhaustive as to completing each task. I’m really enjoying it so far, and I look forward to future updates. Great work (UI is real nice) and worthwhile.

So close

I really want to go all in with this app but I wish I could fully customize items. I cannot find a way to delete or modify the starting tasks that may not be relevant to my exact item. For example my generator requires a monthly maintenance run but the default task is every 3 months and cannot be changed.

Good, not great yet

Pretty neat app in telling you the routine maintenance required for a home. The functionality right now is pretty basic, just a calendar of tasks you should be doing by month. Not sure a calendar is worth the monthly subscription fee. Low hanging fruit that can make it more useful and valuable are pulling in user manuals for the appliances you add and adding in or linking videos in addition to the descriptive steps. Additionally functionality to consider maybe recommendations or near by pros that can do the task for you or maybe product recommendations from consumer reports.

A come-on for a costly subscription

After the first few bits of data that I entered, the app went to a page to accept a trial subscription, with an automatic $4.99/mo. added if you forget to cancel. There was no way to decline and just try more of the app without getting a trial subscription. I just had to quit the app.Come on, Consumer Reports, that is *not* consumer-friendly! The app should provide a basic level for free, and have an option of a subscription (non-intrusively) for the advanced mode.I deleted the app.

Helps me stay organized

I really like this app. It helps me stay organized and on top of maintenance that is easy to forget. There are two things I wish the app did (or maybe it does, but I don’t know how to use it.) The first is for reoccurring maintenance to appear without you having to manually uncheck them as completed to get them added back to your list for that month. The second is to be able to move items to a different month. Otherwise I really enjoy using it!

Cool app, but lacks some functionality

The app is very cool and does have some cool feature to it to keep track of all the to dos. But seeing that the basic version is all you get for when you need the subscription doesn’t make sense. It would be cool if the paid version allowed you to add your own items not listed and add to dos with reminders for those. Pulling in manuals from newer equipment with maintenance recommendations from those would be a good feature as well. A lot of this I can set up calendar reminders in my google account for free as a recurring event so not as much need to pay for subscription. But the app overall has a great concept and lots of potential to be super useful for home owners. Especially if we could sit down with our maintenance manuals for the equipment to add periodic maintenance items that aren’t listed here.

Should be free for subscribers

The app works well enough, and has good information, but I’m disappointed that you’re not including the app’s features among benefits of subscribers to the magazine/website. I greatly dislike the ridiculous amounts apps charge for subscriptions that provide nothing near the amount of benefit for what they change, and CR has now added themselves to the list of miscreants.

Misleading

I downloaded this app with a referral from my homeowners insurance company with an enticement of “3 months free trial”. The app is helpful and teaches me things to do that I would not have thought about, however, I only got through the 1st month when they started charging me. There have also been some opportunities to speak with the developers through virtual chat sessions, however, I signed up for 2 of these and no one shows up and they get cancelled. So while this is a very helpful app, I’m not sure what to think of the company and developers.

Great Value

$4.99/mo with no ads with the potential of saving you $1000s in costly repairs from poor upkeep is a stellar value. I only wish there was an option to pay for your subscription through the Consumer Reports website rather than through the app. I’d much rather have CR get the 30% cut that Apple gouges from app subscriptions. Grading upkeep items as critical, important or extra credit helps prioritize home maintenance without getting overwhelmed.
