Stop actively using my location when app is open in background

Ever since at least 2 versions ago the app: (1) does not permit Face ID for access. You get a note when you open the app saying they are aware of this problem and are “working on it”. Ok- but it’s been weeks! Even worse, the “remember me” option does not work, so you have to type your login and password every time you want to access the app (even if you don’t close it- the app logs you out spontaneously even when it remains open- a whole other issue) and (2) when app is open in the background, the blue bubble appears behind the clock on my iPhone X, meaning the app is actively using my location. My tracking setting is set to “only while using” for this app. I’m sitting on my couch watching MNF. I’m not using the app for anything. Why is it using my location just bc the app is open? That’s illogical. It’s like if google maps was actively using your location when open, even if you haven’t entered a destination. Makes no sense. If I turn location services off completely for the app, then every time I need to use the app for something requiring access to my location, I have to change my phone settings to allow access to the app again. I’d employ the more obvious work around — closing out the app when not using it— but the Face ID access is broken (see #1 above) so that’s not feasible either. This is nonsense. Please fix it!!

Tire pressure , now gas gauge, both gone since iOS 15.6

Was working OK until recent iPhone iOS update. Now all the get on the app is my VIN and the latest service info. Why is this app so hard to fix??? Hey! Here’s the latest: I just learned if you’re having issues with the Toyota App that comes with the purchase of a Prius, you MUST continue to subscribe to Safety Connect ($80+ a year!) after the first “complementary” year if you want features like tire pressure, fuel guage, mileage, etc to continue showing on your app! The App Store doesn’t tell you this; the books and pamphlets don’t tell you this; the dealership doesn’t tell you this; the service tech doesn’t tell you this. Even the app itself doesn’t tell you this when it fails to display what you expected to see. I only by happenstance found out by calling and talking for a while with a lady at the Toyota support line for multimedia services. I’m writing all this to help all you other Toyota owners that have been frustrated by this app. Now you know: the app is merely a way for a huge corporation like Toyota to make a few more bucks off an unsuspecting public. Is this the best way to promote brand loyalty?? Caveat emptor!

The update needs updating

I used to love this app and now it annoys me. I don’t want the extras in this app that have been added. Not interested in drive pulse; watching my driving habits, financing, or shopping. If I want something like that I am capable enough to look for it. You should at least be able to hide annoying parts of this app and not see it every time you go into it. Plus I am purchasing this app each year and it is not cheap because at the moment I am purchasing three connected services at $240. If these add-ons have to be there we should have the option to edit out what we want to see. Plus I check my car every day to see if it’s still parked where I put it but it constantly has the wrong area. Before the update the parking information was better and correct; now it’s not. I have sent this information via the app twice with a photo of where it says it is and where it actually is; which is incorrect. Please work on updating the app. I want to love it again and update my review back to five stars.

Pointless waste of time

Although the Toyota Entune app was not flawless, I was able to use it. However, I guess Toyota made some changes so the Entune app would no longer connect to my Prius, presumably to “encourage” people to switch over to their newer Toyota app after all the annoying little popup messages urging us to do so. Well I reluctantly downloaded this newer Toyota app and entered all of my info to create an account, but the app refused to allow me to add my 2016 Prius! I tried scanning the VIN number, scanning the barcode, and even typing in the VIN manually, but the app kept showing a message asking me to confirm that I had entered the VIN correctly. Finally I phoned Toyota Customer Support for help, only to be told that I would need to provide proof that I own the car!! I bought it new from a Toyota dealer in 2016 and have been getting it serviced at a Toyota dealership for all recommended periodic maintenance ever since, so they must have it in their records!I finally decided that whatever benefits might be offered by the app were not worth my going to any more trouble. I have deleted this app because I am DONE.

Piece of junk

I’ve had my car for 2 1/2 years and have nothing but bugs with this app. About half the time it won’t open and will ask me to login again but then won’t let me login so I have to delete it from my phone and add it back and login. I can’t even count the number of times I have had to do this. It is ridiculous. The only reason I keep it is so I can remote start my car in the winter and when I turn it in after the lease is up in February I will be canceling this hunk of junk. Update-give it another chance and they still haven’t fixed the bugs. It sounds you out after about a day and either will or will not let you sign back in depending on how it is feeling. If it won’t let you sign in your only recourse is to delete the app and download it again. UPDATE 1-3-22 The developers finally fix the bugs and it has worked for the past month or so however today’s problem is that my subscription expires the 12th of each month under automatic billing. It’s a leased car and I am turning it in on the fifth so I canceled my subscription so that it didn’t automatically renew on the 12th. Well guess what? They canceled my subscription immediately even though I had already paid until the 12th of this month so now it’s 10° outside and I can’t start my car even though it’s paid for. I am so glad to be done with this incompetence

Update but not a fix

I found that if I remove my vehicle from app and account that if I delete, reboot iPhone, then reload the Toyota app the connected service button shows up and I can connect for that trip until I turn off the ignition. The next time I start the vehicle it will not connect until I pull the app to the screen and disconnect it on the phone because the radio is not finding the app open then hit the reconnect button on the app. To the developers, I’m not sure what is going on with this but I hope you get it back up to at least the level of performance it had when Entune was the connected app soon. I hope that future versions will not require these extra steps. Funny but the audio system will access iHeart without having the app up so why can’t everything else work that way? Thank you Toyota for the follow up call and suggestion to keep checking for updates.

A Step Backwards

I own a Prius Prime, with its Entune based navigation system. Previously, a separate app would allow me to queue up destinations which would sync with my car. I get the impression that Toyota doesn't trust its drivers with the ability to enter text while the car is moving, even if the person entering text isn't the driver. Recently, Toyota sunset its old Entune app, and I didn't find out about that until a road trip. The updated Toyota app gets the job done, but expects to be running in the foreground of your phone while it synchronizes data. This should be a background task like the old app was. If i'm setting out on a trip, this app inserts itself into my workflow unnecessarily. It's also quite unclear how to connect. "Get More Information" is not an obvious label to "Connect" to my car. Finally, the connection seems buggy and slow. Saved Destinations do not always or immediately come up on the car, whereas on the Entune app there was no issue. I hope Toyota can fix its issues, but i don't hold out a lot of hope considering they withhold CarPlay for arbitrary reasons.Update: the developer invited me to send feedback via the app, but that feature is also broken :(

Pay for features that they will cancel and keep blaming you

I’ve had the remote service since day one I bought a 2019 Toyota Camry xse. When my free trial ended I opted to do the month to month for the services which is $8 ok fine after a few months or so I saw where they charged my card for $80 which is the yearly price well I didn’t choose yearly so they refunded me gave me a free 3 months and I started back at my $8 again here they go charging my card $80 again well this time they couldn’t so so it canceled my subscription so I said ok I don’t care but the feature is nice and why not use it if you pay extra for this so months go by bc I’m still mad. I went in again and opted out for monthly bc it clearly ask do you want monthly or yearly went great and low and behold after 3 months again they tried to charge me $80 again so I call in the phone for over 45 mins only to be told they had something happen to their system and they would refund me my $8 and give me my service back so I would see a charge and then a refund seems I still paid for it twice smh I’m not paying for a year service and I may get rid of my car and your not gonna give me any of my money back for a paid for subscription I swear I may just switch to Honda I’m so over fighting with Toyota my car was purchased brand new and I can’t even fully enjoy it. I’m so livid!!!

Awful changes

The prior app was working great - as long as it was open on my phone I could use the connected apps on my Highlander. With this update I have to manually go into the Toyota app, scroll down to select the app suite, which brings me to another page where I click a “connect” button. This happens every time I drive and occasionally I have to sign in again despite selecting “keep me signed in”.UPDATE: STILL GARBAGE. They have fixed the issue of not having to go through steps and manually connect anytime I re-open the app. HOWEVER- the sound through the iHeart radio app doesn’t work. The first time the app is installed and opened it works. But each time after the sound is so quiet through my car it’s not even audible until >35 (which would normally be way too loud). I tested it out just now, I re-installed the app and the sound worked just fine with audio coming through the car. I then closed the app, turned off my car, then reopened the app and turned on my car - back to no sound unless my volume is almost maxed out on my car.

Waste of Time

The updated version of the app is a waste of time and space. The home screen that I have does not match the home screen in the tutorial or what is shown here on the App Store. The only thing I can see is my tire pressure is OK and my engine is OK-it also looks like I need to schedule maintenance and gives the impression of being overdue when that is not the case. There’s nothing anywhere in this app that shows me if my doors are locked, if the hatch is open, if the engine is running. I feel like these are all things that showed up in the previous version. I don’t look at it regularly because I really don’t have a need to, however tonight, my daughter accidentally locked the key in the car (how is that even possible??) I remember the dealer saying we could unlock it remotely using the app. Nope! There’s nothing even showing that the car is locked let alone an option to unlock. Aside from all that, I set up the app on my phone initially because I picked up the car from the dealer. My husband download it and tried to create an account. Nope. So then he tried to login using my credentials. Nope. Apparently you can only have it on one device so if your significant other wants to be involved, you’re out of luck.
