Maybe the best

I haven't played them all, so I can't rightly call it the best, but of the ones I have, it's definitely tops. All the clean interface & features of CWF but the rating system, board flip and autoloading of active moves put it above the rest. Some have more features but are clunky, ugly or just annoying to use (looking at you chess time.) Would like to see vs. a particularly player stats at some point, maybe a game time function. The yearly fee for 6+ games is kind of a drag, but thats really the only drawback here. But you pay a little and you get a much better app. Stop fighting with newtoy/zynga tech support and get this app.Update: Woa, whadyou guys do, add those features while I was writing that review? Now that's some service. If I could add a sixth star I would.

Lots of cheaters on this platform

Unfortunately there are a lot of cheaters on this platform! For example, don’t play with this person called mistermaster from Iran who has elo score around 2174. He has software that can freeze his clock. I had this one game with him, he had 0.9 seconds when I had 28 seconds left, and we moved at the same speed. His 0.9 seconds never went down for many moves! It kept glitching and glitching and stayed at 0.9 seconds for a while. That is impossible with human physics. At the end of course I lost due to time because apparently having 28 seconds cannot beat someone with 0.9 seconds. My whole 28 seconds went to 0 while his 0.9 seconds lasted till the end, and he had 0.1 second left (how convenient lol). If anyone watches that game, they would call that absolute bogus. I hope the developer can ban this cheater. I notice that some people also cheat with computer, every move is literally using the same time like he doesn’t think lol, extremely consistent like a robot. I’m sure many players met with those before. I reported one because I played about 20 games with that person to prove it. Of course next day I saw his account get banned ha! Feel great when cheaters get punished. Honestly it really took all the fun away when there are people like that. Come on, the whole point of chess is to have fun and play fair!

Beautiful, simple, clean app & great features!

I've been playing this app for years now. I have absolutely no complaints. I love the newer features of being able to see the history of wins/losses you have with any particular player. And support is amazing! Always a quick reply that gets immediate resolution. I've never had to reach out due to a problem with the app, but a couple other 'user error' issues 🙃 I think it's the owner/developer himself who responds too, so you know you've forgot someone on the other end who knows their stuff!

Best MP Chess app available!

Bar none. No annoying ads, you're simply restricted on some options if you don't pay the $7.99 annual subscription (for stats tracking, customizable boards, 100 games at once instead of 5, etc), a great value but not at all necessary for the more casual player. You can play locally, and for MP can choose between slow or fast games. While I haven't seen a huge amount to choose from I've never been left in want of one, and they try to match you up against those with similar stats. You can play a move once a day, three, or five days (or however soon the other player responds), or play a fast game with an adjustable time limit among other settings. You can chat (text) and rewind or forward your moves to analyze strategy while playing. The UI and presentation are also streamlined and pleasing to deal with. If you have any interest in chess give this app a shot....you only have everything to gain! Highly recommended.

Great Chess Game

A really good chess engine with a lot of features to it. You can tell that the creator of the app cares about chess a lot and has built the app around what most advanced players want. Things that I love are the SUBMIT button after every move. It’s annoying at first since you’re not used to it, but once you do, it’ll save your victory infinitely more times than it’ll cost you it. If it really bothers you, then you can turn it off in the Options menu, but I don’t recommend it. Also, there are no ads of any kind and no submitting personal information except run of the mill login info. He gets his support from players buying the PREMIUM version of the app, but the free has plenty of features as well. Somethings that I don’t like are if you start a SLOW game (which takes days to play), you have to wait at least 12 hours to cancel a game. Lame. Also, you can move one move ahead of time while your opponent is thinking (the piece won’t actually move until your opponent moves), but once you do there’s no undoing it unless you premove another piece. That’s a fairly new feature though so perhaps there is a way that I’m not aware of. Premove is still an awesome feature though! Just be sure. Overall, the app has got to be one of the best you can get. I’ve been using it for years now and it’s only getting more addicting.

Hostile, buggy, poor customer service

This app gets worse and worse with every update. It used to be the best online chess app, but it is merely the least-terrible. The overgranularity of ELO ratings for each and every speed category is absurd and can't be turned off. The graph of ELO ratings is patently false (ELO 1406 shows as a red line ABOVE the 1500 mark on the New Game screen). Status pop ups cover important parts of the screen (you can't see opponent's name or ELO until game no longer follows a standard set of openings). Customer service doesn't respond to requests for support (it's been over a month, and my previous account is probably permanently lost now due to their slow and non-existent response). I hope someone comes along and makes a better social chess app - seems like low-hanging fruit at this point.

SocialChess giveth and taketh away

They want more money now while taking away benefits. Like archiving! Past games are deleted much sooner and you must pay to see them now by archiving. Ticked me off! Also a lot of bugs with many fixes. Better graphics for your user id but does this help you with your chess? If you like seeing more of your past games without paying more to see them — Do Not Upgrade! SocialChess giveth and SocialChess taketh away. Hopefully this is a trend that will not continue! I still like SocialChess very much but a little more suspicious of them.

It’s just great

I’ve been playing chess on this app for what has to be two years now. You just can’t beat it. There are always people at your skill level to play with and generally, all very respectful and just enjoy the game. You can also play at whatever time frame you want which I find really useful. I can play a 10 minute game over a lunch break, but I’ve been playing games that last a couple days with the same few people for going on years now. It’s just a great app.

An easy Five

This is such an easy app to rate. First of all there is no visual clutter. Not just with no ads, but also the program itself is clean and not distracting. Always works as advertised keeping your attention on only one thing, playing great games of chess. Just today I wrote in a suggestion and within minutes my email greeted me with a pleasant response from the developer. Just out of curiosity, I looked at the version history, and this app has a continuous track record of keeping up to date. This really is the way an app should be. Great job, keep up the good work!

Biggest flaw of this app is the pre-move function

Biggest flaw of this app is the pre-move function!! Players can pre-move their chess piece before the opponent moves his or hers, so if you play 1 min game, lots of players manipulate the clock by using the pre-move function, just so they can move 10 moves and the clock only goes down 0.1 second. Towards the end of the game, it’s just a whole bunch of pre-moves that don’t make any sense just to preserve time. It’s not even playing chess anymore, just pure manipulation of time. No real world chess games are like this, definitely not in the professional chess tournaments. Can you pre-move in real life lol? It’s the most stupid thing ever. Everyone in the 1 min game uses this trick but it’s pure stupid and unfair to those that don’t know about this and just simply want to play chess. I see why many people are frustrated with this app and said lots of cheaters here. Probably because they use the pre-move function. Hope they delete this function!
