Updated app doesn’t connect to headset
The last version worked ok to switch between Bluetooth devices. I have a work iPhone and personal iPhone and the on either device could connect to the “le” device and change the audio connection to the device I wanted. Now the new app won’t connect to the le device on multiple phones, so if I go from using one to the other, I can’t manage the connection easily with the phone I’m using. This is much worse functionality. As things are, I wouldn’t buy another sennheiser Bluetooth device that only connected to one audio source and used this app.
Buggy Mess
I LOVE the Sennheiser sound signature and quality, and I’m on my third pair of Sennheiser consumer headphones (TW2, Momentum 3, TW3). It it almost like being forced to choose between Apple, which is great at all the conveniences and software but mediocre at sound - vs. Sennheiser that’s great at sound but mediocre at all the conveniences and software. The app has always been a little finicky, but with the recent release of the TW3s (True Wireless 3 buds), the app is borderline unusable and veers into taking AWAY from the listening experience. 1. The app won’t even recognize my device on anything but my iPhone. I have many other devices, so having so switch to my iPhone every time to chance settings is annoying. 2. Compounding this, some EQ and other settings reset every time the buds turn off (bass boost for example), so I can’t even listen how I’d like on some devices because I can’t connect the app to access the settings. Please get the basics right before building unnecessary features like “sound zones”.
App has come a long way.
I have had the Momentum True wireless for a few years and hated this app. I just picked up the new Momentum True wireless 3 and reinstalled this app and it has some great features. Sound Zones so you can have the earphones activate different features depending on location, as well as a connections setting so you can. Have the earphones switch devices easily through the app. I hear multi connection is coming in a firmware update but until the. This is great. Was going to give 5 stars but knocked off 1 firmware update failed twice. But thankfully it was smart enough to continue where it left off.
Horrible app makes great hardware useless
Sennheiser makes great audio hardware and my CX-30 ear buds are no exception. But this app is so horrible, it makes for a miserable user experience. I use my CX-30’s exclusively with my MacBook Pro. But I have to run this app to manage connections, and every time I start the earbuds, they connect to my phone instead of my laptop. Changing the connection involves launching the app and then going through an arcane and lengthy process to switch. If I get rid of this app, I have to re-pair the buds each time I need them. I love my Sennheiser CX-30’s, but this ineptly executed software has made them too cumbersome to use. I’m ready to toss them and pick up some Airpods, which at least work and connect reliably.
Mostly works fine
The latest update is fine and mostly works as it should with my Momentum 3 Wireless headphones (which are awesome btw) but at the bottom of the main device page where it shows options for the transparency mode it actually says “Firmware Update” at the header…and then there’s nowhere in the app to actually check the firmware version and to check for updates. Hopefully this will be fixed soon (I believe there was recently a firmware update so I don’t expect another anytime soon). My only other complaint is that I almost always have to force close the app and open it again to get it to connect to the headphones. Only a mild nuisance really.
App does not connect.
I can’t say whether the other app functions work well or not as the app simply does not connect to the headphones. I’ve followed all the directions given multiple times and have, for good measure, tried all combinations of installing/uninstalling/turning off/turning on/forgetting device/etc. The app cannot find the headphones despite the fact that they connect and play from my phone instantly. The app “support” page on the website does not even have the right categories for seeking support (plus they ask for way more personal data than they should when all I want is product support). Pretty disappointing all around.
Unwanted app that ruins my listening
I understand that the Smart Control app has some cool features that I could appreciate.But my $130 Sennheiser earbuds have become unreliable this week — again. If I can’t hear my podcasts and music through these earbuds because of software quirks, I don’t really care about the extra features.As an audio professional who owns multiple Sennheiser products, I appreciate the Sennheiser sound. But if I have to play games with Bluetooth settings and an app I didn’t want in the first place, it’s back to AirPods for me.
Finally shows battery level of MTW3 case
Happy to see they finally made it to where you can see the actual battery level of the MTW3 case. The battery “indicator” on the case is useless. Shows green above 90%, red when dead, and yellow everywhere in between, which was a braindead decision made by whoever made it. The app now presents a case battery level percentage. Reason for only 4 stars: Wish it showed the battery level of each bud independently. Also wish transparency mode worked with only one bud. Also header on transparency mode says something about a firmware update instead of saying transparency mode
New Version Review
New version of the app is a step in the right direction. The settings menu should get rid of the tiles option if the product has two or less tiles and just display the tiles permanently, noise cancellation could use something like an info button with a brief explanation behind each option, and the same idea could be applied to the acoustical settings. Also, the options for “Director” are a little too dramatic; I can’t imagine anyone already into sound quality enough to purchase Seinnheiser products to go with “thump” and “high” reverb.App reviewed with PXC 550-II headphones. Based on other reviews and what I see in the app it seems like settings are slightly different for each product. I’m able to connect easily with only one product, something I wasn’t able to do in the previous app version. The iPad is a completely different story, and I try to stay away from the app completely and just keep noise cancellation fully activated via the headphones.
Disgracefully, comically poor software design
We can really only conclude that Sennheiser accidentally hired a lead software engineer who faked their credentials. Usually, when I write bad reviews of software, it’s because the software is merely clunky and difficult to navigate— but it’s very rare that I discover in a respected electronics company accompanying software so horrifically designed that it lacks even basic functionality. This app’s shortcomings are humiliating and unacceptable coming from a top-tier company like Sennheiser: the app fails to connect to earbuds, activates factory resets at nonsensical times with neither consent nor warning, floods its own user interface with pop-up notifications instead of— well— actual interfacing, and sometimes simply shuts the user out of actually being able to change settings for the earbuds. As a result of this last item, it’s highly likely that there are countless many software failures aside that I’ve simply been unable to discover yet. This combined with a terrible customer service setup from Sennheiser’s website should cause all consumers and published tech reviewers to rate Sennheiser much lower than they have in the past.
