Incredible audio, meticulously recorded. An absolute joy to hear.

Lang Elliott has put together an exceptional collection of natural sounds, the likes of which I’ve yet to find anywhere else. And the fact that they’re binaural is just icing on the cake. The app is very well designed, and works flawlessly. They’ve even thought to add a very sublime acoustic profile for those if us who listen through Apple Earbuds or Airpods. It adds just the right amount of equalization to make them sound almost as if you were listening through an over-the-ear, quality headset. One of the best app purchases I’ve made in the app store. Thanks for creating it, and for all the thoughtful audio touches, too many to list.

For the purist

Nature sounds are too often used in casual and incongruent ways in the now overly saturated domain of meditation and relaxation recordings. They are ultimately diminished in how they are overlayed and co-mingled with myriad other textural and musical elements according to the subjective “artistic” sensibilities of the producer/creator. Lang offers none of that. He simply shares wondrous moments of nature’s spontaneity and gives us the opportunity to practice true listening. As I have come to understand through my own experience of listening to what Lang has captured, and in reading his own views on his work, he is a rare individual who patiently assumes the role of a searcher. And through his own deep practice of active listening, he invites us into that same action, but with a more honest discernment of where our attention is actually situated. As a longtime backpacker who has been woken up countless times (during both day and night) to so many wonderful, spontaneous, and sometimes alarming collections of sounds, I appreciate that the particular nostalgia these recordings evoke in me is not connected to specific moments or memories, but to a basic nostalgia for what is real.

Great sound, but minor issue

I love these kind of apps, and own many of the best of them. The only issue that I have, is that after hearing one of the nature loops for a while, my ears will begin then to pick up the “seams” in the recording, meaning, that the files should be way bigger than they are, that is to say longer in duration, and as they are in the amazing hands down winner grandaddy of all environmental sound apps, ENVIRONMENTS. Here, I can completely tell when the loop begins anew, and then after a while of hearing it, it actually starts to bother me, as I have become accustomed to the repetition of what should be natural and seamless soundscapes, lasting much longer (so as to fool the ears and the brain) into believing one is actually present within nature, and not on a holodeck. The other issue is the sound quality, as once again ENVIRONMENTS wins hands down ... I don’t know what quality sound file, compression, they are using here, but it must be relatively small, for look at the size of the app (Environments, once again,is over half a gigabyte in comparison, and with less sounscapes, although theirs run nearly an hour each). Other than that, though, this is nice.

Really great app!

I have virtually all the ‘soundscape’ apps available on iTunes, and this one really stands out in terms of sound quality and ‘natural’ variety. I am a big fan of thunderstorms, and this app has a number of really satisfying ones. (Check out ‘Mammoth Cave Thunderstorm’ from the ‘Rain Moods’ set.). There are a number of soundscapes provided for free, and they are representative of the quality in all the sets. I recommend paying the one-time fee to access all material now and on the future. Birds! Insects! Toads! Rain! Wind! Waves! Storms! Whatever natural sounds you like to listen to, you should be able find them. You can run your favorites one at a time with a timer, loop and/or scramble. Very cool!

Love this app!!

Bought this a while back and can’t go to sleep without it.. after I downloaded the update a few days ago it was freezing and thought it will simply fix itself if I reinstall.. I bought the package when I first downloaded this app months ago and it also promises future updates.. so when I reinstalled the app back it was doing the same thing so I knew that update was bugged out .. so my problem right now is I can’t access all the albums any more even though I bought the most expensive package which includes all the albums. I also hit restore purchases many times and nothing.. for instance the album called ‘insect lullabies’ is missing and wants me to purchase again.. so what gives? What do I have to do to get all the albums back that I purchased?

Love This App

I have sensory sensitivity from autism spectrum disorder and I have loved using this app as a calming and studying aid. Listening to the natural world has improved my quality of life and for that I am grateful. The recordings are amazing but I do question the quality. My one piece of feedback is that it would be great to know the specific quality of the recordings. The website does go into the technical aspect of the recording process, which I appreciate, but why not market the sound quality of the audio files in the app as well? Are these 16-bit/44 Khz files? Are they better than that? I use a DAC attached to my iPhone, and wired headphones. It would be great to have the most optimal quality audio files for listening. If some of your customers are concerned about file size, perhaps have two options. Thank you for your incredible work!

Use this app to chill out after work

I feel really fried after being on a computer all day and use this app to calm the heck down. Rather than listen to a podcast where my brain still has to take in and process information, I can immerse myself in the soothing sounds of nature and go for a stroll around the neighborhood. I find that within minutes I feel much more relaxed and seem to be observing my surroundings with greater interest and clarity. The sound quality is superb, so much that it’s not rare for me to keep looking over my shoulder for a frog or duck. These recordings are definitely of better quality than just your typical nature sounds CD or sound file.

Wonderful soundscapes in a fuss free package

These are some of the best nature recordings I have ever heard. These are much better than things I have found on other music platforms. They are also balanced from one track to the next so you are rarely surprised by volume jumps. The quality of the recordings is the real winner here. The app itself is pretty good too. It has just enough features to make me not complain but isn’t fussy to use. It has a timer function that is great when using as a sleep aid.I went through a period where I was really struggling to sleep. Possibly dealing with some anxiety too. These recordings really helped me through that time. Now they are just pleasant reminders to get outside and experience more nature myself!

Best Nature Sounds App Ever…Because It’s Real

I have downloaded and used several apps that claim to be sounds of nature but nothing captures the beauty of actually being there. The quality of the recordings (especially with Apple AirPods) is so immersive. I also like that the recordings are long and properly edited so that when looped it feels continuous and there are no specific sounds that you can pattern so that you don’t lock in or anticipate specific parts which I find distracting in other recordings. Add Lang’s well written descriptions of the where and when of the recordings is a nice touch. And for what you get the price is worth it. Can’t wait for more albums.

Helped my Migraine

I suffer from migraines that can put me into bed with a mask on and earplugs at times. I’ve given up on prescription migraine medicine because I’ve had so many of them over the years that I seem to have become resistant to them. I found Bluetooth sleep headphones online that come in the form of a head band which has small, flat speakers that you can actually sleep with even if you turn and lay on them. Last week I got a migraine, but there were things I needed to take care of so I took a Xanax, put on that headband and chose the rolling thunder sounds. I played it for a second hour. Suddenly I realized that my migraine was gone! I don’t think it was a fluke and I don’t know how it works, but it did, and that’s all I care about. Thank you for these beautiful sounds. I thought they might be synthesized until I read your story Thank you took so much for the time you spent recording in the wild.

Description

Immerse yourself in the healing voices of the natural world! Be instantly transported into the great outdoors, where the tonic of wildness will soothe your spirit and bring a relaxed sense of joy to your day. Designed primarily for headphone listening, this app features over 110 spacious 3D binaural soundscapes, meticulously gathered by recording artist Lang Elliott in wild areas across North America and beyond.

Audio quality is superb throughout. • Calm yourself with the all-encompassing voices of thunderstorms, rain, wind and waves. • Sleep soundly to the rhythmical night songs of insects, frogs and whip-poor-wills, enlivened by the distant hoots and howls of owls and coyotes. • Recent addition of Long-Form recordings lasting over an hour, allowing for gentle transitions over long periods of time. • Relax to the gentle choruses of birds at dawn, or the mesmerizing sounds of birds and brooks combined. • Awaken to uplifting soundscapes that help clear one’s mind at the beginning of each new day. • Learn about tracks while listening by reading descriptions that include dates and locations of recordings. • Use anywhere and anytime … in coffee shops, subways, airport terminals, work places … whenever you feel the need to be soothed by nature’s healing music. Additional Features: • TWO FREE ALBUMS (of six tracks each) are included in the basic app, with many more albums available as in-app purchases. • Individual recordings as well as full albums can be looped indefinitely, with listening durations controlled by a timer when desired. • User-selected tracks can be added to a “Favorites” list that will behave just like an album. Why Use Headphones? My recordings have been made using a special microphone that simulates the human head. To experience the remarkable 3D effect, it is best to listen with headphones, where the right ear hears only the right channel, and the left ear hears only the left channel. While headphones produce the best result, earbuds may also be used, but they often have weak bass and boosted treble. To alleviate this problem, we include a special equalization setting specifically tailored for stock Apple EarPods and AirPods. To experience nature’s magic in noisy environments, we highly recommend modern “noise cancellation headphones” that greatly decrease the ambient noise. Yes … it is quite possible to relax into pristine nature even while traveling on a subway or flying in an airplane! When listening via speakers in a conventional stereo arrangement, both ears hear signals from both speakers, resulting in "crosstalk" that degrades the spatial cues responsible for a realistic 3D effect. To improve the sense of spaciousness, try placing the speakers out to the sides. In so doing, one's head reduces crosstalk, allowing one's brain to properly decipher the 3D sound cues. While speaker listening can certainly provide a satisfying experience, headphones typically yield a much more immersive effect that literally transports the listener into wild nature.
