Problem with various aspects of the app
I have been looking for an app that would be a complement to my analog photography. I have tried other apps that have frustrated me. So, when I saw this app recommended on a blog that I visit, I immediately purchased it. So far, I have noticed several problems with it:1) The speed dial reflects the settings on the oldest, far more traditional cameras which go in full stops. I have several Canon bodies (like an EOS 3 and an EOS 1V) which allow me to set speeds like 1/160 sec or other fractions of a stop. The app should allow the user to enter the exact shutter speed, otherwise the whole purpose of tracking the information for the shots is lost2) Most of my lenses have a fixed aperture of f/2.8 and the app will NOT allow me to set the minimum and maximum to the exact value, but will insist on saving the value as f/2, which is obviously inaccurate. This needs to be fixed.3) I made a mistake and entered the wrong name for my Ilford Delta 100 film. The app will not allow me to simply edit the name, but I was forced to create a new film and use it instead of the one I had originally entered. This would be fixed by allowing the user to edit the name field for the film.Please fix these problems to help us continue enjoying our analog photography.
Great app with some caveats
Beware that this app has little/no support - that said it's the o lot of its kind and works pretty well. It's not optimized for newer screens, and getting it to recognize pictures on Mac is a little tricky. Developers site is accessible but only if you google the app, the link here is broken. There's definitely a learning curve but stick with it for a roll or two and it'll be worth it.
Great intent, much to be desired
I really want to love this app, but find it frustrating to use - to a degree like all “film EXIF log” apps - though simple fixes could be made but have not been. Some of my top gripes and frustrations:1) cannot review film logs after set to “developed” or “done” - need to email the CSV and open in app or spreadsheet program2) Limited EXPORT options. Developed film EXIF uses default Mail app, cannot use Gmail, Dropbox, or anything else to get the CSV files off your phone. If default mail app is broken or don’t want to use it - cannot export at all!3) first shot is on setting 0 - which I guess is good if shooting an “extra” frame per roll, but would love to have at least the option to start at “1” as is natural. Counter always shows “number shot” instead of the “current shot number” (which is how every camera or film back I have used works)4) generally not intuitive interface, as I constantly find my self hunting around to set values5) no photo preview, archive photo built in option to save with the CSV file for export6) 1/3 and 1/2 stop shutter/aperture adjustments - would be nice to set on lenses as well as camerasOn the positive side, I like the intuitive controls to adjust camera settings to record the details. It is also a small size app (<10MB) which is great!
Strong Start
This app is a good start, and the matching desktop application is pretty nifty once I figured it out. I agree that the frame counter mismatch is confusing, the counter should start at 0 like a film camera does. The user comment line in the exif seems to be incorrectly formatted as the only place I can see it is in the app and the desktop app, other applications cannot parse it. And most of my lenses are 1/2-stop not 1/3-stop but there does not seem to be a way to configure lenses to 1/2-stops. I hope this app continues to be supported as it is quite clever in its fundamental approach.
Almost Working Perfectly
I throughly tested this app, and the companion desktop app, with two photo shots (two rolls of film), and overall, it works fairly well. There are some important fixes/changes needed to make both right.First, the iOS app itself works well, and it seems like prior reviewer's issues have been addressed.Suggestions: (1) Need a way to read the shutter speeds in between the numbered markers. (2) There are three ranges of standard apertures, but they are not listed out - and they seem to be associated with the camera, not the lens.Second, the free Mac OS desktop app works, but crashes consistently upon completion of writing the metadata to your scanned files. And by "crashes", I mean it really crashes hard, the desktop slows to a crawl, and it's very difficult to 'force quit' it to get your system back to normal. It does work, however, and upon completion the metadata (time, date, camera, location, etc.) is all there. And, the scanned TIFF files are intact and not corrupted.Finally, the metadata written to the digital image files shows the 'camera' brand as the 'scanner' brand (original data from the scanning process).Suggestions: (1) An option to choose what metadata gets written to the file, as typically the scanner and scanning software information is written first. (2) A countdown bar indicating the number of files being processed. (3) No crashing, obviously.I stumbled upon the ability to select which numbered metadata can be saved to which actual image, which is nice. This is important if you accidentally have more data in the app than you do actual pictures.The documentation is almost non-existent, except for the fancy website, which looks nice but does not have enough practical information. I learned the iOS and desktop apps all though trial-and-error.Please fix these small issues with is iOS app, and fix small issues and big crash with the Mac OS app!
Pretty good
It works pretty much as advertised but there are few things I would love to have fixed.1) Update the app for the iPhone 5. The touch sensitivity area is fixed to the smaller iPhone 4 dimensions so that picking a camera+film setting that happesn to fall near the bottom of the display is problematic.2) Ability to edit the settings and comments for shots previously recorded on the virtual roll of film.3) The frame numbering starts at zero in the app, but starts at one (1) in the camera. I would have expected the little frame "window" on the app would match the frame window on the camera, but it is off by one. The only fix is to "shoot" a dummy frame in the app so the numbers line up.4) I would love for it to have a "B" setting on the speed dial. Then when I press the shutter button on the app, a timer appears and counts up. When I release the shutter button on the app, the exposure time is set to match the elapsed time. This allows me to both use the app as a timer when I'm using a cable release (by pressing the cable release button and pressing the app release button at the same time) in addition to its normal function.
Great app to capture EXIF info.
It is a well designed app. However the desktop app is only on Mac.
Gets the job done; saves me time
Everything works as expected. The desktop app does NOT crash (macOS sierra). I agree some values are missing (such as 20" or f/9.5) but seeing there are no alternatives, I'm giving this 5 starts anyway. I wish I got this before I shot my 25 rolls of film over the last year writing the exposure parameters into a notepad
Best app for its purpose
This is a great app. I like the user interface a lot. It does a decent job of mimicking what’s happening on my camera. This app is helping me enjoy the process of relearning film photography. Great job. Thanks
App work on phone, but cannot download companion app
I purchased this app to be able to add exif data to film photos I take and sync them with the scans of my film. The phone app works beautifully, but I cannot get to the website where the companion app is located. If the developer no longer intends to provide said companion app they should either remove the feature or remove the app from the app store.I have tried contacting the developer but their site has been inaccessable since I purchased the app two weeks ago.
