It is one of the best…

I went for both the iOS and Mac purchase. I was disappointed to find out it doesn’t allow for SOCKS configuration with WireGuard. Not sure why that has not been implemented. I hope it is soon. I’ll definitely use the ‘Tip’ in-app purchase for it. Additionally, while not a big deal for me personally, the server lists for the providers could really use some updating. While I am on the subject of “wish list” requests, the ability to edit the entire conf. file inside the app would be fantastic rather than having to edit outside and then import and setup a new connection in-app and apply preferences again. I’ve tried A LOT of VPN apps to use with my provider of choice though and this app falls in the top three. Big thanks to the developer for their time and dedication to working on it, especially since I am guessing it is a side-project.

Fantastic OpenVPN alternative.

Passepartout trims off the fat of OpenVPN's stock iOS client, focusing on being efficient, lightweight, and secure, while still packing in robust configuration settings and useful features. One unique feature of note to me is trusted networks: Passepartout can automatically disconnect you from your VPN upon connecting to trusted network(s) of your choice. For example, your VPN could automatically disconnect anytime you connect to your home network, and automatically reconnect upon disconnecting from it. This is extremely useful for anyone who has a VPN configured on a network level at home, but wants to be protected when on the go without any manual work. Passepartout can achieve this! Not to be cliché here, but overall, it just works. And without any added fluff! I reckon I'll be using Passepartout for a long time to come.

kinda FIXED: purchases do not register: (fix:iOS 14)

ORIGINAL ISSUE I was trying to get the app to add the trusted networks, and it just ate my money... it kept prompting me to restore my purchase, but it never actually added the functionality... i tested on iphone and ipad, both fail to add the functionality of the purchaseupdate- ios14 fixed the issue (i actually found that suggestion from the developers response to another review)... confirmed working This is a great app with the added functionalityUPDATEi had my friend buy the software and update to iOS 14... he is unable to get the functionality of his purchases. it's a great software if it works for you... i give it a 5 star if working, 1 star if it doesn't, and there is no rhyme no reason as to how to make it work.UPDATE UPDATEMy friend in 2-3 days time had it randomly work... so behold knows why... back up to 5 Stars... just if you buy this, it might take a week to start working

Best OpenVPN app on iOS, bar none.

Blows away the so called “official” OpenVPN Connect app. My provider was having some issues with their WireGuard servers some time ago, so I decided to use the OpenVPN servers as a fallback option until they resolved the issue. I knew from prior experience that the OpenVPN Connect app for iOS was an ugly and unreliable piece of 💩, so I did some searching and found Passepartout, and my mind has been blown. If everyone put the same care into their apps, the App Store would be a much better place. Heck, I think this dev could even create an app to cure racism if we gave him the funding. Speaking of funding, I did check out the Kickstarter page, and sadly, I can’t be a backer at this point in time. As someone who doesn’t use MacOS, the development roadmap doesn’t quite align with my needs. If the dev put WireGuard development ahead of MacOS and IPSec (which already has native support on iOS), I would be backing on sight. As it stands, with WireGuard support being a ‘stretch’ goal, I can’t pledge more than the bare minimum. I have, however, reached out to my VPN provider (who have a decent history of backing open source projects) and shared the link to the Kickstarter page with them. Cheers.

Works fantastically!!

UPDATE: The app now allows comp-lzo (see below) and has started integrating VPN providers directly into the app. There is now no need for multiple VPN apps - this one it all - perfectly and quickly. Very impressed with the developer. Totally five stars!!!It does everything it says it will, quickly and efficiently. Not heavy on battery use. Only current issue is that many VPN providers use “compression framing” (comp-lzo) in their protocol which causes the app to connect but not transfer any data. Until VPN providers change that, they won’t work with this app. I can confirm that Mullvad VPN works great with this app.

Better than official wireguard app

The official wireguard app was having problems connecting every time. Switched to passepartout and the problem resolved instantly. Only gripe I have is I newly installed the app on my iPad, and the configs I had on my iPhone were automatically present on the iPad. Can’t connect both at the same time, as it is the same config. I wonder if I changed the config on iPad would it update to the phone and simple never allow both to connect simultaneously. For now, I just don’t connect both at the same time. I’m guessing it has to do with iCloud.

This app offers everything the official OpenVPN app doesn’t

I host my own vpn server at home. This app allows me to keep the vpn connection always on for any network I connect to but automatically disconnects when I connect to my trusted home network and reconnects when I leave home. The fact that I can just set it and forget it is amazing and it’s very weird that this isn’t built into the official OpenVPN app. Please consider buying this application as there is quite literally no alternative and this app should be considered just as viable if not it more viable then the official OpenVPN app.

Almost there

Very good app that allows the connection to latch even if the device is sleeping. Only issue is that VPN throughput is a lot slower than with OpenVPN Connect. I hope the developer fixes this soon.MY RESPONSE BELOW —>Response to Developer’s Response: It is slower on both private server and popular providers. I noticed that with Open PN connect, a tun interface is created with a standard MTU of 1500. With Passepartout, it always weirdly picks 1250 and doesn’t even pass any tun-mtu or related values back to the server. Since Passepartout completely ignores tun-mtu and it’s related settings, there is no way to fix the bad throughput on the client end. Fixing it on server end is not an option for a lot of us since it will mess up lots of other clients or we may not be in control of the OpenVPN server. Please can you add the capability to manually change MTU or please pass the mtu values to the server and use standard MTU of 1500? Thanks.

My #1 Go-To VPN App

I used to use the OpenVPN app, but haven’t gone back since using Passepartout. Passepartout is incredibly stable, quicker to connect, and easier on battery life. I use it for two main scenarios: for my DNS-only tunnel to a Ras Pi Pi-Hole at home and as a full VPN tunnel with Mullvad. Both scenarios run excellently with Passepartout. I love how I can choose a specified region with my VPN provider instead of having to load in a bunch of specific OVPN profiles. The dev for this app has been INCREDIBLY responsive, helpful, attentive, and kind. I’ve been beta testing the builds from very early on and I couldn’t be happier with the end product! On top of being a snappy, efficient, feature-packed app, it’s free. If you appreciate the app, make sure to donate or become a patron to support the dev! ❤️

Best OVPN App For iOS. Hands Down.

I was searching for a way for my Mullvad VPN connection to persist even while my device was locked and came across a post on reddit by the developer of Passepartout mentioning that very feature. I’ve been using this app for over a year now with zero complaints, and it keeps getting better. It functions like native iOS menus and is super user friendly while still maintaining advanced functionality. And now I can log directly into my Mullvad account without having to bother with ovpn config files. Skip OpenVPN and just get this instead. Keep up the great work!
