Great for on the go Texture Painting!

I can strongly recommend the app for anyone who’s looking for a great portable solution to their usual digital painting routine!I work daily with hand painted textures for games, and Paintstorm has really helped me keep my work up when I’m not at my computer. The UI is super customizable, so I have it set up to the buttons that I only absolutely need to avoid any clutter on my workspace.Seamless mode is great for tiling textures aswell. I also prefer the triangle color wheel over Procreate’s square one. 😎

Attention: program crashes

First, let me say that I love this app. The interface and number of options are unique and fun to use. The only complaint I have at the moment is the brush lag, where the brush stroke comes behind where the Apple Pencil is on the screen. If this is fixed, I will likely give a five star rating. I don’t think I have seen any updates for this app in a couple of years, at least. Which is a shame, because it is a great app.

Would Not Recommend

I recently purchased this program for use on my iPad and my iMac, based on the reviews and the brush engine. I was excited to get into both. Although not terribly expensive, the programs are not worth the price as they are extremely slow. The brush strokes are not real time and you have to wait for some brushes to catch up. On the Mac, you cannot “hide” the program and have to quit to get out of it. Then, you have to find the project as the “recent” does not work either. I believe the programs were originally developed for use on Windows. Paintstorm may be fine on that OS, but doesn’t work well on the iOS. I will keep working with it, however, and hopefully, with some more development, it will prove to be worthwhile. I just can’t recommend it now.

Beautiful App for Fine Artists

Wonderful application! I haven’t found another app that can replicate painting as realistically as Paintstorm. The blending, the ways to get the exact color that you want, the gestures, the brush options! So many brush options! The biggest issue is memory usage when working large, so I usually only work in the app if I close all my other apps. The app is regularly updated and you can tell! Great job to the developers!

The Reference Window But Canvas Texture is Awesome

I do love this program. It’s got great painterly brushes that most of us really want without the big prices like Corel Painter. It’s pretty budget friendly. Granted it being cheaper it does have some bugs and the interface is a bit odd. The Reference Window bugs me so much though. I guess you could technically have the photos app open on the side. You can’t import images directly into the sub window like in Clip Studio Paint, Ibis Paint X, and Procreate. I have tried almost all painting apps in my experiences of 12 years of art and 3D art. Most drawing apps in fact have that function of sub reference window image import. This one is just not ideal, you have to open a separate document and toggle it to the reference window, that’s my only issue. If they fixed that with direct image import into the reference window, but overall it is a good app. And it has canvas texture templates which most don’t have, which is a double plus.

An Underrated Gem

While I found myself disappointed in Procreates lack of features, this app was WELL worth the heftier price tag for me. Paintstorm was actually the first desktop art app ive purchased in many years, after happily using open source software, and i was delighted to see it, essentially in FULL, on the ipad pro. Paintstorm has one of the best brush engines I’ve ever used. Its the closest to Sai in its blending and stroke correction ive felt, personally. It also has a fantastic little hotkey menu down in the bottom left that I use constantly to resize my brush on the fly and switch between brush and eraser all without moving my pencil from the canvas. I do wish that it had more saving and export options, and the ability to import an image as a layer to make adding textures easier, and the ability to import textures for brushes from the camera roll. But these are all things I can happily deal with. Paintstorm strikes the balance I wanted. Enough features for serious painting, start to finish, a great brush engine, and a highly customizable interface. If youre used to drawing in full desktop apps and want that experience on your iPad, i highly recommend this app.

very nice.

Paintstorm is definitely the program to buy if you wanted photoshop, but only the drawing part of photoshop. Also, it’s one of the most lightweight art programs I’ve ever used (it’s about tied with Paint Tool SAI). Even my potato iPad gen 6 handles it mostly fine. The brushes are very customizable and the presets are really nice too. Painting can feel very realistic if you want it to, which is a fantastic feature. The cheap price is a bonus too haha.

iOS 11 ruined it! New IPad Pro 10.5

Worked fine before the update, now i cant close out projects right away, i have to restart the app a couple of times. Which it also crashes upon trying to load initially almost everytime. I have lowered my undo levels history memory and states. I gave up and upgraded from the 9 inch one because of the lagginess and as soon as i updated it, it started do the same kinda stuff. Get it right paintstorm people! Its a great app otherwise. But i use it for work and it does look unprofessional sometimes, when your sitting there with a client and start fumbling with a laggy app.

Amazing app

Would absolutely recommend this app for drawing! Please make renaming canvas after using it available and canvas properties available too (more details available). When I use the color picker on the hot keys sometimes it gets back to brush automatically (which is what I want) and other times it sticks to color picker and I have to reselect the brush icon. Other that these little issues the app is so amazing and affordable. Thank you!
