Long time player review

I started this game a few months after it came to global. This game has expanded so much (I’m nearing my 1000th login next month) and I’ve met friends around the world now. Story and game mechanics are well fleshed out. No two teams are the same with the various layers of synergy and composition that makes a single team. The community is lively and helpful. A little grindy? Maybe. But when you have a partner or mentor run with you it’s a lot easier and faster. Pvp is difficult when first start off but get involved with guilds and members that frequently duel and you can slowly learn the ropes. Customer service could be much better but hopefully you won’t need it. It’s completely possible to never spend a dime in the game but know you’ll probably have to grind a little extra to get better drops. If you decide to play talk to other players to help you get started. The beginning is a little overwhelming but easier to get through with the in game mentor system.

Fun and Fresh

the development team is absolutely amazing with how many things they fix and add. the more this game goes on, the more optimized certain features become (eg: gluttony ghoul, easy shiki upgrade, auto battle improvements). i’ve been playing this game for years, since the first anniversary. it’s come a long way and seeing this game grow makes me so happy. i’m honestly emotionally attached. the graphics and artworks are absolutely gorgeous. the soundtrack and voice acting sounds impeccable (though i must admit i play with everything muted due to personal preference but what i’ve heard is stunning). i have not gotten into the story but it’s expansive- filled with characters, event stories, special scenes, and many interactions. if i start paying attention to stories in games, this is going to be the first one i jump into. i could probably write an essay about this game but i’m going to stop it here. if you want a game with new additions, events, global teamwork+competition, gacha, character leveling, stunning graphics, thorough storyline, and or optional auto battle- this is perfect for you. thank you so much onmyoji team for all your hard work!! this game has given me so much joy over the years, and hopefully will continue to do so in the years to come.

Great game!

So far this has got to be one of my favorite games so far, I love the characters (even though I feel like there should be dragons you can add on your team🐉) and I even have a few character suggestions, maybe you could add in some more beast/animal creatures, like Amaterasu (yes I know, there is already a character very similar, but still they are different) and although the game is amazing, I lost all my progress on a previous binder account, I was using a Game Center account, but luckily I just had to create a new one. But still, I miss my progress and I have to work all the way to the point I was at, I wasn’t too far into the story, only to the part where you find the Crying Woman, but it’s gonna take a lot of time to get back to that point. I just wanted to inform you because even if I won’t be able to get my old account back, at least it would be best to prevent others from having the same happen to them.

Criminally underrated, beautiful and high quality

The amount of famous JP VAs in this game is INSANE and if ykyk. There is Tsuda Kenjiro, Jojo’s Bizarre adventure VAs, and literally every mainstream anime with a famous voice actor—they voice characters here too. The quality of the characters, music, ART, and gameplay is honestly a breath of fresh air compared to games like Genshin Impact. The game rewards you so much if you actually commit to the game instead of flaking halfway through because TBH if you give up that’s on you cause there is a mentorship system literally in-game. The summon rate up events come every couple of weeks and the characters are always beautiful—THEY ARE RELATED TO CHINESE AND JAPANESE MYTHS and honestly their stories are always amazing. The models of the characters are exactly the same as the art, and this game is going through the 7th anniversary in China so you know this game has been through thick and thin. I hate that it’s underrepresented here bc the server is always full of people saying the game is dead when it’s just fine. Tbh I wish more people played it just so that the veteran players would stop complaining

Frustrated

There was a recent update that blocked several non-transaction actions for players who have negative s-jade. Many of these actions are necessary for playing the game such as upgrading shikigami with new skills and levels, or swapping out shikigami in realms.Onmyoji Discord staff reported that game staff said this was an anti hacking measure, but it also messes up the game for players like me who ended up with negative s-jade because of an early game glitch. I was told by in game support that I’d just have to purchase some s-jade but this is very unfair to players like me. I understand wanting to prevent hacking but barring non-transaction actions from players isn’t the way to do it. I’m disappointed at the response and becoming less and less inclined to play a game I’ve had for over a year because of this. Staff should please, start all players with negative or hacked s-jade back at 0 at least so there’s a clean slate, or find a way to counter hackers in a way that’s not game breaking to other players.

When do New Chapters get Released???

I don’t really play games like this anymore. And if I do, I only play for a few weeks (at most) before getting bored because the plot isn’t that interesting and/or just the fact that it takes so much effort and time to level up.But I love this game so much and I’ve been playing it for the past 6 months or so without any intention of stopping even though I’ve completed the story chapters. It’s highly addicting and there’s so many things you can do in the game so it doesn’t seem too repetitive.I enjoy how frequent the events are, the beauty of the graphics and the different character skins, Manual mode so I can level up while doing other things that require more attention, the interesting and well-paced plot, the side stories that provide background to different Shikigami, and all the other things you can do like Demon Parade, Duels, etc.I will admit it takes a lot of patience and time to level-up the characters, especially if you don’t want to spend money. There’s also certain things that are difficult to do without buying some material pack; for example, it’s hard to collect SR/SSR shikigami during events unless you buy items to help you.But overall I thoroughly enjoy this game even after 6 months of playing it.(And, are there anymore chapters after Chapter 25: the Maiden of Offerings II? How this chapter ended can’t be considered a conclusion because there’s still so many things unexplained.)

The crashes need to end

I’ve been playing this game for over a year, and I’ve loved it for a long time to spend a decent amount of money to support it even though you don’t need to.However, in the last update it introduced some of the most horrendous crashing I have seen in any game and that was more than a month ago. Sometimes I can’t be in the game for more than 30 seconds before I crash again. I switch what I’m doing and need to move souls around, I crash again. I’m in a duel which is rated by wins and losses and I crash again, making it an auto lose. I can’t even go to the “packs” screen where I “WOULD” purchase things without the game crashing.I have sent in several tickets, and the only responses I have gotten back are “sorry for your experience, we’ll pass your feedback to the dev team”. I know I’m not the only one crashing, a ton of people are complaining about it. I have lost so much time and resources because of the new update, and such a utter lack of caring from the CS team, that I wish I could get a refund for every purchase I have ever made and never play this game again. I wish I could give this 0 stars for how long the crashes have been going on with no information as to when it’s being fixed.Don’t download the game if you like staring at your phone’s wallpaper.

Would have gotten 5 stars BUT..

I would have given this a 5 star review but something has recently happened with my account that makes my give it less then 5 stars. Let me start by saying this review is about the customer service/Onmyoji team. The game itself is AMAZING and I love mostly everything about it. But the customer service leaves much to be desired. This week they made a mistake with giving out the steam pack to people who downloaded the steam version when it became free to play. Messing it up for those who paid for the early access to it on steam. But then they took it back from everyone, people who didn’t know they shouldn’t have it, including me and making everyones S-Jade, the Jade bought with real world money negative and they refuse to even put our balance back to 0 and making people pay $5 for 50 S-Jade we can’t use to get the balance back to 0 to even be able to use the currency again. This whole entire situation was handled poorly and has greatly ruined my enjoyment of this game.

Gl server problem

Been playing this for years. Their unfair treatment and indifference for GL server has always been horrible, yet i can’t stop playing coz i’m already too attached with the characters and old stories. However, this time… they took it to another level!! . Why do gl server get the beta version of Amaterasu events?!!. Some parts are still untranslated, have weird movements, missing cutscenes, missing musics, and some characters are even still in their placeholder voice?!. The supposedly emotional scenes became funny and unserious- the experience became very lacking!. And not to mention the system where we borrow support shikigami from friends were messed up too. Does it not being checked before release? A company as big as you? It’s been days and there’s no notice yet as if there’s no problem.I know we’re not as abundant as in other server, but please appreciate your players in gl server aswell…. I hope you fix the event or at the very least… give us deserving compensation!!. I’ll edit the rate if this is resolved.Edit : kinda fixed quietly it seems, but not entirely.

Terrible Support

While I love this game, the support flow is terrible. It is not optimized whatsoever. Why is every issue completed once a user receive a response from the agent? That should not be the status when a user issue is not resolved. The resolves status should be on the user. However, the forced closure of the original ticket forces the user to resubmit multiple contact for a singular issue. User should be able to have a message box to reply to the agents response so that the conversation is centralized. I’ve messaged them numerous times about the failed injection of S Jade into my account despite having proof of purchase and Apple’s confirmation that the order was successful. Yet the in game agent can only tell me that it didn’t go through so I have to follow up with Apple? Apple takes care of the payment, but the developers should really be the ones to handle the in game injection based on the payment ping that the platform should get notified of. Now if it doesn’t but a customer shows that they did, what is stopping the developers from credited the player? Honestly I’ve been frustrated too many times going back on forth on the support portal.
