Complete Failure

I can’t get it to set up more than two players. The bottom two positions won’t let me set them up. There is no place for me to download the armies they reintroduced, that I already owned previously. Very disappointing to see a great game be ruined by a company that doesn’t care

Simply Incredible.

This game has blown me away. I loved it originally when it first was released and played it frequently when out of the blue I was pleasantly surprised by two new factions being released! Before the two new factions, I had been conflicted about which faction I preferred best. I had played all of them and only managed to discover that The Hegemony seems distinctly worse than the others. But with the new release I easily found that New York fit my strategy perfectly. What I am trying to say is that no matter what type of strategy you like to play with, especially with this new release, there will now be a perfect fit for your style of play. It made an already great game absolutely perfect. My only complaint about the game is that it crashes frequently when you do certain actions, (such as tapping the pause button immediately after the end of a battle) however, this still does not bother me too much because it only takes about 5 seconds to restart the game and be back where you were. Never the less, it would be nice if an update was released to fix these small interruptions.

They destroyed a 5 star game for no reason.

Whoever decided to re-skin and reprogram this should be fired. What was my favourite game for many years has been ABSOLUTELY RUINED IN EVERY WAY. It looks and plays terribly now. The buttons are all smaller and less intuitive. The colours and tiles look so bad and different from the game I love. I bought all the armies and used to play it many times each day for many YEARS! Now I only start it when I see it has had an update in the forlorn hope they have reverted the game to what was once a 5 star game. All armies we purchased are gone…this is a criminal act. I want to know how to complain to Apple, and I want a REFUND. The only fix is to fire whoever ruined this game and revert back to either version 1 or 3. Look at the version details to see what they did. Both of these were 5 star games. Version 2 was bad, but it was nothing compared to the debacle Version 4 is. It does not even deserve 1 star. I have reached out to the developer and her nothing, and my reviews on their web site were removed. It is absolute cr@p now. Positive reviews prior to 2021 show you the love this game had. Positive reviews in 2021 and later are probably from the developers friends. My son is a game developer and when he saw what these people did he couldn’t believe they could treat their fans this badly.

Updates have ruined game

So many issues since the game has been relaunched. Crashes all the time. Cannot recover previous purchases as well. Loved the original version.

Interface is terrible

First, I’m aware they are adding the expanded armies one at a time and that those of us who purchased them in the old app will have them restored. That’s fine, I’m patient. What bothers me is that the app is terrible now in terms of functionality and ease of use. The menus are weird to navigate. In-game it is not at ALL intuitive how to go about seeing what each tile does - the old version had this built-in right in the game board and now we have to dig for it. The buttons are much smaller so it’s hard to see on a phone. My least favorite thing is that in the old app, when it was the AI’s turn, it was almost instant. Now there’s a wait for it to take its turn. This makes no sense and slows down the game flow considerably. Lastly, every time there is an update, it loses my old in-progress games. I also have to make sure my friend and I are updated to the same version or we can’t play together at all. This used to be a 5-star app that I played all the time - an app that was miraculously better than the original board game itself. But with as finicky as this new app is, I’d rather go back to my old version 2.0 cardboard game.

Interesting game, but come on that 2X crap for the iPad

Just downloaded this app, still tying to figure it out, will update when played more, does look like an interesting game, once you get your head around it. Think I will need a hardcopy cheat sheet for a while, please all app developers, include a link to a website for the rules, cheat sheet, in PDF form. That ratty, ratty, 2X resolution always turns my stomach. Like looking at a screen under a magnifying glass, blurry, just takes away from the game, especially one with such a busy looking game board. My guess is if you want to like a Risk, i.e. you would like to like Risk, but can't, because of long game play, it eliminates players, it lacks something, then Reiner's Samurai app, Samurai is a lighter weight game then NH, and NH, which is more middle weight, are both good picks. NH has a lot more info to take in. Understand they are not Risk, they are tile driven, but if Risk appeals to you, you will be happy playing these two. Giving it 3 stars for lack of iPad resolution, lack of hardcopy cheat sheet. Would give it 4 stars as a game port, so 3.5. Shouldn't stop you from trying it, they just dropped the price.

Great strategy game!

Neuroshima Hex combines elements of a collectible card game and a spatial strategy game. Every turn players need to decide what is their best option among three possible tokens, which effectively work like cards drawn from a deck. The type of card and its placement determines your strategic position on the battlefield. The main driving mechanic in the game is to determine what direction units can attack, and when will they attack during the battle sequence or "initiative". A higher initiative unit can trump a lower initiative unit, and kill it before it can attack. At the moment, there are 12 different armies, each having a unique style and strategy. The different armies each have their own special abilities and have their own flavor. This game has great replay value as you can have up to four armies vying over a shrinking battlefield. It plays well on the iPad and iPhone. The tokens are easy to read, their notation makes them instantly recognizable. In all Neuroshima Hex is a great mobile game for those who want more strategy from their mobile devices.

Great Game! One little issue...

This game is fantastic and a very well-made adaptation of the original board game; that being said, I was disappointed with one aspect. Though this does not really affect the gameplay as much as it will affect your wallet, it was annoying nonetheless. It turns out that the armies are going to cost you extra if you want them; if not, then you are stuck with the default armies. This would easily be misunderstood, as the game promises all armies in the paid version; however, they are only promising that they will be "available" in the paid version. It will cost you about two bucks an army. This was kind of a let down for me, as I paid five dollars for a game that promised more features, yet now I literally have everything that was included in the lite version; the ONLY difference between the two versions is the ability to buy new armies, and the ability to play multiplayer (which is virtually non-existent, as there are only about two people online at a time and don't even seem to play any online rounds). If you want to just pass the time with a good strategy game, just stick with the lite for now. If you love the game enough to pay 5 dollars, as well as an additional 5 dollars for the armies, the by all means get the game. The great strategy and gameplay definitely trumps the five dollar cost. Just don' be disappointed when you realize that you could have had the same experience with the lite version.

Solo, Duo, or Multi-Player...still great

Elegance is the key to great game design and neuroshima delivers. Intuitive symbology and a strait forward set of rules lay the ground work for a game that draws you in without overwhelming you with the depth of gameplay you will eventually achieve. Steering your strategy starts with choosing a faction that fits your style and builds as you decide what tiles to keep and which to discard. Responding to you opponent has not only to do with knowing their strengths but recognizing how they are developing their board position with base placement. Tactical control of portions of the board are just as key as getting pieces lined up to wound their base. Game play and controls are smooth with good prompts and info menus. Tutorials walk you quickly through the basics but true strategy is learned from the school of hard knocks. Factions are well balance and the first four are cornerstone in their strategies and do not lack in power or competitiveness against additional factions. Solo play and badge earning feels rewarding. Two player matches play back and forth like a more exciting version of chess. Multiplayer games are mayhem with the diplomacy of temporary alliances keeping any one player from running away with the win. Well worth the money. A solid adaptation of board game to app. You will be hard presses to find a more rewarding board game in app format.
