Great game and replayability, needs small enhancement

Easy to pick up and lose an hour in a new run. Extremely polished port of the PC original, which was a balanced and creative card drafting game. My one complaint is that in some menus - like card and artifact drafting - you cannot view the game map or your deck. It’s tough remembering if you have a ring 8 temple coming, or if you cut all your train stewards already, or many other game state questions without being able to see them on the fly.

I love this game!

I bought this game on Switch this summer and have played it at least several times per week for months now. The only thing better would be to have it on my phone and play this brilliant title on the bus, on lunch breaks, and late into the night instead of sleeping. It hasn’t disappointed! Everything I enjoyed on the Switch is now with me everywhere I go. I’m absolutely obsessed! I have had no issues with the port on my iPhone XR and would encourage anyone who breathes to pick this title up! While you’re at it, find the soundtrack and buy it too! Jordan Chin is a genius and made a wonderful collection of tracks to listen to throughout the day. So to summarize, buy this game!

60fps and cross device saves?

The game itself is the same great Monster Train experience as on PC, no complaints with regard to gameplay. However, a few complaints about the port: — No 60fps mode. The game runs beautifully on PC, why shouldn’t it on mobile devices capable of running it? — Cloud saves are buggy/not working. Attempting to play the same save file across phone and iPad has not worked at all. Yes, they are logged into the same Apple account. Yes, I checked that cloud saves are enabled in settings. — More minor gripe, but swiping to switch floors on the train is rather finicky/unresponsive. Often takes multiple tries, and honestly tapping the tiny arrow is less annoying. —— The game could be great, and I’ll update my review if/when these issues get fixed. ———— UPDATE: The game now overwrote my more recent phone save’s progress with my unplayed iPad progress, effectively wiping everything I did last night. Lowering to 2 stars as now I don’t feel comfortable playing the game for fear my progress will be wiped again. Please fix this and make a more robust cloud save system.

Obsessed with this game!!!

Monster Train is so good and so addictive. I love the daily challenges and getting better and better with each deck. Monster Train is on the same level as Slay the Spire for me, and I was very excited to see it come to iOS. Ironically I prefer the Xbox game pass controls on iOS, but I am sure the developer will continue to refine the UI and touch controls, and they are not terrible. Highly recommend this game, and thank you to devs for bringing to iOS finally!

Finally on Mobile!! Worth the buy

So excited to finally see this on mobile from the Xbox console. The game plays very well with great soundtracks, sound clips, and a simple yet efficient tutorial for those who need it. A great rouge-like game where every run is different and exciting. The only thing I notice that can be improved is optimizing game speed performance/fluidity since sometimes the performance speed seems a little choppy but that might just be my phone 🤷🏻‍♂️ Overall, so excited to see this on mobile and hopefully see more expansions like the Divinity DLC

Amazing game, but few bugs and no 60fps

I’m not going to focus on the game itself, because it’s fantastic. If you like Slay the Spire, this is worth your time. It’s also on Gamepass if you want to try for “free” before buying on a more portable version. My main issue is the card selection can be finicky and too easy to accidentally cast a spell. It’s happened to me dozens of times at this point.60fps support would be amazing, really any more graphical options. I maybe the option to turn down graphical effects to really optimize for battery life?

All aboard!

All aboard the most addictive, insanely deep, fun deck builder there is for my money. If you loved Slay the Spire you will probably love this as well. I think this is every bit as good as STS, and has even raised the bar a little higher. Well worth checking out! Now that the developers have updated the game to where I can use my purchased DLC offline as I wanted to, I am restoring my review to a well deserved five stars. The base game and the DLC are all I’ve ever wanted in a deck building game and so much more. The game has seemingly infinite replay ability, and so much fun and depth. This is one ride you don’t want to miss! Thank you to everyone involved in making this gem and bringing it to this platform.

Great Game, Well Worth the $$

As a first time player, this game really impressed me for a mobile game. Everything is incredibly smooth, it’s well balanced, and there’s a ton of combinations and strategies which give it a lot of replay value. I’ve only experienced very minor bugs and the team seems to be on top of them. Overall if you like card dungeon run games, this is one of the beat out there.

Wonderful card game with a twist but touch controls can be better

Great game. Was enjoying on game pass Xbox and now I can play on my iPad. You definitely should try it.Below is a message to devs since I couldn’t find a way to report issues/suggestions on the website. Bugs first. Swipe up and down on iPad has dead zones and not working smoothly all the time. Picking a card bug is dangerous. When you tap on a card so it flows above all others and then start swiping this card to the field, you may drag card below instead. Happened dozens of times already. Easy to reproduce. IPad specific layout - would be nice if you make space below for all the cards so they are not squished. There is plenty of space on iPad 12.9 at least. Also you can see the whole card but a bit below info like damage/health and still need to tap a card which seems silly since there is all that space. Same with floors. I can see all three floors. But yet I can’t target a spell to a different floor. Seems counter intuitive for a touch device. One solution could be to move icons from the bottom and to the sides. I understand the layout is good for iPhone, but not so much for iPad. Anywho the game is good, and could be more enjoyable on a large touch device with a few tweaks.

Great game, port needs work

Fantastic deck builder that I’ve put well over 100 hours into on desktop. The port needs some work though - on a brand new iPad Pro I’m seeing choppy frame rates, and some game elements are scaled oddly or clipped out of frame entirely (for example, you can’t see the flying bosses HP, and when my hand was full the cards felt overly small with no apparent way to size up the hand). Controls feel a bit meh - swiping on the sides of the screen to change floors doesn’t feel great, and browsing your deck feels clunky. Well worth your money once those issues are cleared up
