Perfection

Just like all their other apps, this one is an absolute perfect hit for Japanese learners. The one bad thing I could possibly think of is the fact that it is free, but that means you have no reason at all not to download (and never delete) this app that many more people deserve to know about. Edit - I did a bit more with the app and would love to support you with buying pro but I hate subscriptions so is there any way you could make one (albeit more pricy) lifetime pro?Edit 2 - Thank you developers so much for the lifetime offer! I really appreciate it

Amazing 👌🏻

Great way to learn vocabulary and kanji, you can use this apps creators other app called “kana” to learn your kana before coming here to learn or relearn vocabulary as well as kanji and the SRS feature makes it all great and well managed so that you know what you got to do and when to do it. I would also love if a black background just like in the “kana” app was added since I really dislike the blue and red backgrounds.Still hoping the black backgrounds be added for the menu or main screen, besides that the new update make the app even better for if you use writing of Kana and kanji

While some interface can seem rather confusing, overall i think this is a great app for memorizing Kanji. Theres so many ways to learn and you can go at your own pace. You can select exactly what you want to learn when you want to learn it. You can customize your own tests and quizzes as well, which i think is a great step in learning something. This differs from other apps in that aspect— a majority make you relearn something you may already know. Many things to search from, amazing app.

Good for Vocab, wish it would expand more…

This is good for the basics of Kanas and Kanji as well as a ton of vocab. However I would like it if you could toggle more features on or off. Such as turn off (or on) Kanji while you’re just starting out with vocab on quizzes, turn on or off writing in quizzes, or make the text larger (or again, allow the ability to turn off Kanji or Kana) in the Vocab section when your just looking at Vocab cards. Lastly, I would like to see the app do a better job if differentiating between words that have the same, or nearly the same, meanings and are very similar and confusing when starting out. Maybe a side-by-side feature too to understand similarities and differences. Overall, it’s good for quizzing singular Vocab and Kana/Kanji, but is limited in what it does. I do not believe the cost is worth it in its current form and would like to see the app’s features and abilities expanded to warrant the cost.

Great Japanese flashcard app

This is the most helpful Japanese flashcard app I’ve found. It allows creating multiple custom lists, so you can focus on particular new vocabulary as you learn, then keep a second list of everything you’ve learned to date to allow you to stay on top of everything. The algorithm will quiz more frequently on mistakes and less on items that have been correct consistently, but will still ask about everything to some degree to ensure older vocabulary isn’t forgotten. While the app includes kun-yomi and on-yomi readings for kanji, it would be extremely helpful if these were treated and tested separately. For example, have the quiz ask for a specific reading rather than allowing either in order to ensure users are learning both.

Will be even better once some issues are addressed.

I've been using Benkyo Pro (including the additional content) for a few months. I'm very glad that the developer is continuing to work on the app. That's a big plus. I use this app for the FlexSRS flashcard system. Once I put the things I want to study into it, I really like how it works. It's very smart. Unfortunately, it's being held back by some major issues. This app is organized in a way I'm not familiar with (decks, JLPT, lessons, grades, etc), and it's difficult to use as a normal person who just wants to do flashcards. This app needs ONE unified vocabulary list with ONE entry per term that works with FlexSRS. Common phrase "sumimasen" has four entries across two vocab lists, and two of those only have half the definition. There also needs to be a list of the cards that are in the FlexSRS deck where I can remove individual cards from the deck. As it is now, I have to do it by memory. There problems are ridiculous and difficult to deal with, but hopefully they'll be fixed in a future update. The widget update was very useful. I'm pretty unhappy with the update that makes visually distracting changes to the writing flashcards, like telling what to draw right where I'm trying to draw and alerting me whenever the broken identification system thinks I'm right. The border turns blue too for some reason. I hope the app will become more simple and functional soon.

Overall Excellent

About three months ago I started to learn Japanese, and quickly gravitated to this App. Overall, it is an amazing App, with flashcards for most of the vocabulary and kanji I need to learn. So far it has been a critical part of my learningThe main place I’ve run into difficulty is in effectively managing my flash card lists. I am concurrently learning from a few sources, and each has their own vocabulary lists that I need to learn. The list management is rough, and bulk adding of entries (outside of kana) is difficult. Ideally, I’d be able to organize lists (initially just by order, but eventually in groups/folders).One big wishlist feature would be to add my own vocabulary entries. I have Vocab from sources such as Genki 3rd Ed that are not present in this App, and there is no way to add them. Admittedly, with all the meta data for entries in the database, making a way to add your own vocabulary could be tricky. I wouldn’t expect this anytime soon.Outside of this, I’ve only had a few minor issues .My conclusion: Despite a few festures that could be improved, this App is still the best overall Japanese flash card App I’ve found, and highly recommend it to any learner!

Great Flashcard App

I came from the Hiragana and Katakana app from the same developer and I have to say that I’m learning faster than ever with this approach. I’d give the app 5 stars but there is an issue when selecting custom quizzes. Instead of deselecting a group of test materials it includes all the test materials instead. So if I want to practice Kanji only, there is no way of deselecting the vocab list. Also, for the vocab I noticed that for the word “anata”, the hiragana for it says “anta” which is different. I have not practiced the vocabulary section yet but it may need to be revised. If these two things can be addressed I will happily come back and rate it 5 stars. I purchased the lifetime access and am happy I did so. Thanks!

Great App So Far, Would Prefer Lifetime Subscription

I like this app a lot so far, and enjoyed their Kana app a lot as well. SRS is certainly the most effective way of learning most things and Kanji is certainly no exception. My only wish is for a lifetime subscription, at least for us early adopters. I’m generally not a fan of subscription software especially when there are plenty of SRS alternatives at a fixed price and even free (such as Anki, which is both depending on if you use the mobile app or desktop). While I like that this is optimized specifically for Kanji, it’s not, to my knowledge, providing any online functionality that merits a perpetual maintenance fee. And not a terribly small one at that.

The skeleton of a great app

So I really like the quizzes, the dictionary is a bit lacking in search features but is functional, and the app is pretty helpful sometimes. Unfortunately there are many things that need polishing. The voices are very robotic and hard to understand, and the UI isn’t very friendly, at least as of now (it took me 10 minutes to find the vocab quizzes which are, as far as I know, the main piece of this app. There may still be more features I have yet to find). However, considering that this app is very new, I think it has a lot of potential to be one of the best, and that’s why I give it 4 stars.
