User Reviews for InTune – Tuning Practice

A great app

This app could is helping me to be better at pitch. I liked the version previous better. In the previous version once you set a sound, it stayed on that sound the next time you opened the app. This version asks for your choice of sound between games whether you keep the app open or restart it. The old version had a chart that shows you where your score puts you on a spectrum of users. The new app tells you where in the spectrum your score is on the spectrum. Overall it runs a tad slower.Still it’s super valuable!

Great for classroom use too!

As a middle school band director I use this app to help my students start listening more carefully to fine differences in pitch. It’s very easy to understand and I like the binary choice between higher and lower. Since it resets each time to easier levels, the kids who got lost when we made it to the really fine distinctions are able to rejoin us. InTune really helps them start paying closer attention to pitch.

Oboe timbre inconsistent

Overall I think this is a great app and I love using it. The addition of the new timbre choices at a rather reasonable $0.99 is a nice touch. However, the oboe option is broken, and the flat oboe sound is qualitatively different from the sharp oboe sound which makes practicing on that choice trivially easy. The English horn option somehow doesn’t have this issue; if I memorize exactly how the vibrato behaves in the flat vs sharp versions i could use that to hack the game but it’s something I can choose to ignore. I haven’t tried any of the other options but I recommend looking into them to make sure that the only thing differing is the pitch and not the tone quality/behavior; even if those differences are subtle people are bound to pick up on them.

Must Have App

I remember this app from back in the day. I redownloaded recently and I’m very happy to see the expanded range of notes to hear, and the variety of instruments. This app is a fun way to test and improve your ear, and I highly recommend for anyone who wants to fine tune their ears.My only complain is that some of the timpani sounds could be improved. The higher notes sound fine, but the low notes have so much impact and thud that it makes it really hard to hear the actual tone and pitch of the drum. Those low notes sound more like a bass drum than they do timpani. I think it would be beneficial if the timpani notes were played with a much softer mallet, as well as a lighter touch. That would create a more characteristic sound that mimics how a timpanist would actually play the drum. I hope I can see that improved as that’s the only thing holding back my rating from 4 stars to 5. Again though, very useful app and definitely worth being on any musicians phone.

Excellent!

This app really does help develop ones ability to recognize a percentage of a difference between two notes. It is quite useful. It would be nice to see something get added to show the user where their individual score rates among the average person's percentage score, but besides that this app does exactly what it's designed to do.Thanks!

Good App But Could Use Some Tweaking

Enjoyed the app and the challenges it offers. A good way to brush up on your musical listening skills which can improve musicianship. However, a chart or some type of "key" needs to be added to app that will better explain how to interpret the results & also save these results so the user can track their progress & see how well or if they are showing improvement.

Please add a way to replay the pitches

I use this for tuning practice and highly recommend it. The old version was better in my opinion, but I still like this version. I like that the pitches are not played as fast with this new version, but I liked the scoring with the old version. I would love it if there were a way to hear the pitches played again. Sometimes a second listen is needed to make sure your brain is thinking correctly. Neither the first or second version has offered this. I figured that would be among the list of improvements foe sure. Also maybe something telling you where your problem areas are… which octaves… and those could be used to drill down even further.

Great app for music teaching!

I have had fun exposing this app to my students, and trying it for myself! I use it for private or group string lessons, and I have noticed that the students are really paying more attention to pitch as a result. The only thing that I would like to see is an option to replay the two tones. I would highly recommend to all music teachers who are trying to help their kids develop discriminating ears, and for all music students who are trying to improve on intonation!

Great app for improving intonation

Overall a good app but could be much better if it allowed you to start from your personal skill level, rather than having to start from the very beginning. Better yet, have the 3-strike game as an option instead and allow for an option to continue practicing. Another great addition would be including real instruments sounds instead of the rather annoying electronic pitch.

Great app! Needs improvement.

I recently switched back to Trumpet from French Horn, and I have a very good ear when it comes to tone. I think this is a great app for improving your tone, but I solely feel the sound of the tone is a bit annoying and if possible an option for the instrument making the tone could be implemented. I don't know if I think this because I'm a trumpet player or if I'm selfish but this is my opinion. I hope you take my suggestions into consideration, thank you.
