This is what I was looking for!

When the new year rolled around, I had so many areas of my life that needed improvement that I felt overwhelmed committing to a bunch of New Year's resolutions that I didn't have discipline to keep. I realized I needed accountability and a rewards system, so I started my own on a wall calendar with tally marks...when lo and behold, my coworker alerted me to the existence of Habitica! This app is perfect for me as a social gamer and a self-improvement fiend. My friends jumped in, and the group motivation to check off our individual habits and to-dos is higher than it could ever be. It's like that African proverb: "If you want to go fast, go alone...if you want to go far, go together." If I could make Habitica even better, I'd iron out the bugs (the entire rewards page disappears when I add a new reward, the app crashes for me at least once a day, and sometimes it takes awhile for habits to respond). Also be careful when you're switching between desktop and mobile to make sure the changes you made on either one take effect. But I think this app is doing a great job overall, and if they're committed to the principle of self-improvement that they're purposed for, it could be even more amazing!

Inclusive phobia protection feature!!!

I use the app with a few friends and it’s great for keeping track of habits and giving me external motivation - which I definitely need to make new habits/ keep up tough ones. I’m really excited about the phobia protection feature though. It is an add-on that will remove images of spiders, snakes, zombies, etc - things people may have phobias of. One of the friends that uses Habitica with me has a massive phobia of spiders and, while I think she’s ok with digital spiders, I never realized how apps I use easily (and invited her to use with me) might not be accessible to her during Halloween. I didn’t realize how important this kind of feature is for inclusivity until I saw it. I know how stressful the phobia is for her in person and I appreciate that Habitica is providing an option for people to avoid seeing potentially upsetting images when they’re everywhere during Halloween season. I just had to drop a review because this kind of feature makes apps accessible to everyone- as they should be. It shows me that Habitica has people behind it that care about other people.

Wonderful App!

I love Habitica! I have used this service off and on since it was created, but recently I have started using Habitica every day. I love the separation between Habits, To Dos, and Dailies, as well as the gentle character customization and the inclusion of a place to converse with other players. I have encountered bugs where my items will not be checked off until I do it a few times, or the app will lag when putting a new item. That is the reason for my Four Stars instead of Five. Also, I would really like if we could tag each task under a category, and be able to track that tag with the tasks we did. I think it would be nice to see how many times I checked “Clean my room” and not just as part of a streak. Overall, this app is a great way to keep track of your to-dos. Its interface is simple but effective, and works well for people who enjoy a bit of fun even among the mundane. This is not a full “game,” for anyone confused, but adds an entertainment factor, as well as a rewarding one, for those looking to be more productive. I have tried many productivity apps, and this is the one I consistently remember and come back to. Thank you for making this app!

This is the best thing!

First, three facts about me, for background: One, I am a single parent with four kids, six pets, a bunch of house plants, and an extremely busy life. Two, I have tried dozens of productivity and habit tracking apps. Three, I hate video games and computer games. BUT… this app is amazing. It makes even my least favorite tasks desirable, it keeps me motivated to do things even when I’m exhausted, and it keeps me focused on what I need to do, even when I have a million distractions. I probably never would have tried it had it not been mentioned in a New York Times article (not even about tech or anything like that, it was about a day in the life of a Zen chaplain). I figured I’d give Habitica a shot, but with very low expectations. I’m so glad I tried it! It benefits me and every living being in my house every single day. I fully recommend it to anyone who’s trying to build good habits and/or be more productive, even if you think it’s not for you. Try it for a couple days, and I bet you’ll see benefits. And have fun!

Wonderful in theory, ok execution

So this app is wonderful. Really helped me with habbits i had been struggling with, but as i started getting deeper in and especially with quests and stuff, i noticed a bunch of bugs starting to pop up. Issues with tasks not completing, quests not starting easily, just quality of life stuff. I eventually found another app that has helped me and isn’t buggy, so I then tried to leave the party im in. “Leave quest first” ok, doesn’t sound hard. I went to the quest, but there wasn’t anywhere i could find that allowed me to leave. After some googling and restarting the app, the leave quest button popped up. I clicked leave and like 2 things popped up that didn’t make sense. The quest had already started and one of the pop ups was mentioning that, and the other was confirming if i want to leave. I clicked confirm on both and nothing happened. No notification that i had left, nothing on the party menu that i had left or the quest was in progress. So now im stuck in a quest thats been going on for a good few weeks now, that I can’t leave with a party I can’t abandon If you want this app to track your habbits, go for it. If you’re interested in the quest system, I’d stay away unless you’re really invested

Love! But needs work

I absolutely love this app! It’s a perfect concept, and really motivates me to get things done! I love having a little character to level up, and getting pets and mounts, doing quests—it’s all so motivating and fun for me to do things irl now!! And i love the multiplayer function, having a party with my irl friends, and doing quests together, the guilds are fun, and I love the challenges!!However, I will say that the app needs a bit of work still. There seems to be a few glitches and kinks that need to be worked out, when compared to the website version. One of the big ones I’ve noticed is I don’t get a pop up upon completion of a quest, detailing what happened at the end (like what happens on the website version), I also don’t get a check in pop up on the app. Another mild annoyance is that half of the time, when I go to my tasks, they will be all out of order, and not in the order I put them in. Exiting out of the app and reopening it usually solves this, but it’s a bit annoying. These little glitches aren’t enough to stop me from using the app but I do hope they eventually get worked out!!

For those of us who need a little extra nudge of motivation.

This game is it. It’s adorable and easy to use. So your chores or projects or just daily habits you want to make routine are rewarded instantly. (You know us millennials with our instant gratification)You might one day go for a run and pick up an egg! Panda, wolf, dragon? You may stumble upon a quest to complete with your friends, or you can just hack away at your own habits; either way it’s a great idea. This app has helped me immensely. I’ve always wanted to have a routine because humans are generally happier when they follow one. I just couldn’t force myself to do things like get out of bed before 9 or brushing my hair or doing my school work. I have moderate to severe depression which makes day to day habits that most people do without thinking a lot more difficult for me. Even things like just driving to the pharmacy to get my anti depressants. So if I find something difficult, I put it in my habitica list and it gives me an extra nudge of motivation. Five stars for sure.

Really Helpful for School!

It’s ridiculously hard to stay motivated during virtual classes, and I think Habitica has been a big help! I have all my school assignments up on my To-Do list, which is really helpful for keeping track of what to do and for staying motivated in the middle of working on an assignment. The main reason why I love it so much is that it’s ridiculously effective for me and it’s just what I was looking for. A lot of other habit-tracker/to-do list apps aren’t in an engaging format, and I delete them after slowly losing interest over the course of a few days. I didn’t have this problem with Habitica, because of how it’s part game and part productivity tracker. I’ve been looking for an app like this for ages, and I didn’t find this until my friend recommended it (and thank goodness she did).I haven’t noticed any bugs, other than the occasional small bug that comes from not syncing with the happening on my computer quickly enough. Occasionally there’s an issue where I check off a To-Do list item or a Daily and it doesn’t change color immediately, but it’s no big deal because the color changes if I go to another tab and then go back to the original. I’m also not entirely sold on the idea of gems basically being only obtainable through money, but I can appreciate that the things they purchase confer mostly cosmetic benefit.

Never felt more motivated to wash the dishes

Short version: it seriously motivated me to start doing things, so give it a try. Long version: So I first downloaded this app thinking it was just a cute little way to track my to-do lists and habits I either want to start / stop, but once I got to searching through all the capabilities and features like challenges, guilds, parties and the character customization you can do, I actually was so invested in not only the app, but actually checking things off my lists! It utilizes in the dopamine rush that social media notoriously gives you from the pretty colors and notifications- but in the best possible way. I laid down for a nap today but couldn’t even fall asleep because I was thinking about all the habits I wanted to add to habitica so that I could start checking them off. I’ve always struggled with procrastination and sticking to habits, so I am extremely excited for the motivation this app has given me in just the first day!! 10/10, would recommend, much motivation, very nice

Productivity disguised as a game

I’m in my mid 20’s and got into a mental slump when the pandemic hit and I was working a job that drained every ounce of life that I could give. The only way I could recharge was spending time with my friends, so that was all I wanted to do.Since then I’ve gotten married, moved jobs twice to something that I now love more than anything, gotten 2 cats and a new, bigger apartment. But I still find myself in that mental slump of 0 motivation to do anything but be with people. This app, this game, gave me real-time rewards for doing the mundane, rather than having to wait and see if or when my wife would thank me for doing the dishes or taking out the trash as needed. I had habits that I wanted to break (such as setting repeat alarms or getting back into bed after turning off my alarm and potentially falling back asleep). I wanted to do daily chores to try and get rid of the cockroaches that started to infest our apartment, as of 2 weeks ago, they’re all but gone. This app works if you find fulfillment in being rewarded for doing things, mundane things. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to restart and have a valuable tool to do so
