User Reviews for Clarity - CBT Thought Diary

Sad/Disappointed

I downloaded this because it SPECIFICALLY says the core uses of the app are free. I just got it and it asked a few questions before saying I have to pay to use it. And I agree with others that have mentioned it’s a steep price for a good portion of the people that would need it. And not allowing a monthly payment means way way more people will not be able to use it. I downloaded this because my stress level is high and triggering very bad thoughts, and a lot of the stress is because I am poor, because I don’t always know if I will have something to eat that day or if I will go to sleep hungry. Maybe just be more transparent that this is a paid app, (because a 7 day trial is useless) and then only people that know they can afford it would download it for use. Please don’t bait and switch people that suffer mental illness or dangle the idea that maybe for once someone like me might get *a little* help. It’s actually pretty cruel.

LCSW with an affinity for Mindfulness

I was looking for something for myself to utilize to help me track my thoughts, mood, environment, etc instead of writing it all in a notebook or on notes in my phone. This app was SOOO much more than I was expecting! It’s easy to use, FULL of useful educational material and interactive journals. I especially love the pro-mindfulness parts of the app. The pay version is super affordable and really unlocks the fun insights I was looking for and I’d still HIGHLY recommend giving the trial version a shot because it is full of a good variety of free content to be beneficial on its own and give you an idea of if you’d use the full version!

Well Made and Helpful

I did not really think that this app would help me because it’s so hard for me to change the idea that all of my thoughts aren’t true. Therefore I didn’t think CBT would help me. However, after working with this app for several weeks, I can see the value in it. It’s very helpful to be able to go back and think about my past entries and how it has or hasn’t changed me. Just the act of thinking about these CBT entries helps me see destructive patterns.I like the way that you can search under different categories, search by mood, etc. I originally thought there was a flaw in the search function, but after contacting them, they fixed the problem! So they do listen to feedback.

This app is where it’s at

I wish this app existed a decade ago. CBT is a great tool but when you have low energy/motivation because of depression/anxiety, finding the will to write out thoughts and dissect them can be a bit burdensome. This app removes barriers and invites the user to follow a few simple prompts and before you know it - you’ve dissected your thoughts! Another great feature is the wealth of information available on various aspects of CBT. The content for each subject is brief but covers enough to give you a sufficient understanding of a theory or the reasons why an exercise works. When you’re suffering, the last thing you need is a 20 pager — you need the Cliff Notes. My last comment is a recommendation: a scratch pad to jot our thoughts so we can pick out the “hot thought” or to understand what we’re thinking in the first place. Yes, we could use the notes on our phone but I think keeping them in the app makes sense as a one-stop-shop for anything related to CBT.

Truth vs. Lies

I’ve suffered from depression and anxiety for years. I found out about this app from a therapist, and over time it became a transforming lifestyle when I invested my time into it. Thoughts can be so convincing and seem true and emotions can be so controlling. This app opened my eyes to what was really going on so I could be in control of my thoughts and not the other way around! I have combined this app with therapy and medication and after years of challenges and growth I can see how far I’ve come from previous entries that I can look back on. Now I can also point out when the same cognitive distortions that affect me, come out in what other people say in conversations. It looks like A LOT of people could use this from what I can tell with recent events happening.

I’d say it works pretty well

I surprisingly think this is helping! The informative entries on thought distortions really helped me analyze my thoughts and think more rationally, and it gets me out of the spirals of emotions I get when I vent. I’ve tried many therapy-type apps from AI to ones with little games and rewards-based systems but so far this is the only one I’ve kinda committed to. I don’t have the pro version so I don’t have a lot of the stuff but the limited options are working pretty well. Maybe once I can pay for it I’ll start trying it out because this is pretty decent. Just if you’re the type of guy to like to use the notes app for venting use this app because it’s like that but it kinda teaches you ways to get out of the spirals that at least I always go into when venting on these kinds of apps. That’s the most important part about it I believe. Also I like that there’s a pie chart showing which feelings are the most prominent, it gives me a good log of the stuff so I can look back and reflect on myself a bit more.

Super Helpful, but

I’ve been using Thought Diary for a bit now and I really like it. It’s not just pouring your thoughts and feelings on a page, which isn’t always helpful. It has activities and steps to do throughout the journaling. A check in, an activity of your choice, crash course, and daily reflection. There are (not diagnostic) tests of things like OCD, depression, anxiety, anger, etcetera. There are a lot of good things about Thought Diary, but there are some cons to the program. All of the super helpful features are locked behind a paywall. There is a free version but it is very restrictive. A wide percentage of the lessons and courses are very text heavy which can leave you with little motivation to actually complete the activity. One other downside is that you must journal for a minimum of four days to access insights. Overall Thought Diary might be helpful to some people, but it definitely not for everyone.

CBT dream!

I started therapy in November and my therapist has been working with me using cognitive behavioral therapy. She has given me a lot of worksheets for CBT exercises to help with anxiety and worry and negative thoughts, but I find it hard to get myself to come up with things to write when using them. The guided journals through this app are a God send. They make it so much easier to go through the exercises when I’m having worrisome or negative thoughts I can’t get out of my head. It’s also helpful even to have a mood tracker and small blurb twice a day of how I’m feeling and what’s happening so when I meet with my therapist I can pull it up and go through the week easier. Highly recommend for anyone dealing with depression, anxiety, or any other mental health illness that can benefit from CBT!

It’s good, but I have remarks.

I used this app once I saw it on TikTok, and I thought it was to good to be true. I also thought it could be good to use it as a way to journal my thoughts through out the week, but I ran into a problem, it could be me but I can’t seem to go back to other days and write a journal, I get the whole point of having a “streak” but I was up at 4 A.M. today and forgot to write a entry for yesterday, and since 12 A.M. wasn’t that long ago, I thought “why not write a entry now” but it seems as if that’s not a option, now again it could just be me, but losing a streak because of a missed journal or entry kinda defeats the point, now I get that having a streak gives you something to be proud about, but I would like to at least be able to edit or enter a entry if I forget to the day before, don’t get me wrong, this app is great, but again, I would also like to just use the entry’s to remember what I felt the days prior, other than that, the app itself is amazing, and I don’t see anything else wrong with it.

I finally feel seen

I always felt like therapy just didn’t work for me and that I might never get better because nobody could understand how to help me. I didn’t even know how to help me. I’ve tried to use many other apps but they all just felt cheap and commercial. I felt like I was being sold a nice little pamphlet that a school might hand out on five quick exercises to reduce anxiety. But then a couple of weeks ago I stumbled across this app in an attempt to gain some control over my mind. Now for the first time ever I am writing a review because I feel so thankful that the creators of this app actually knew how to help me. As someone with ADHD and anxiety I very much struggle with motivation and consistency in my journey to sanity. But the layout of the app, the gratification I get from the completion of tasks. The way the journals are actually guided all the way through make so much sense to my muddled brain. The way cbt is explained and utilized in the app has been monumental to my progress. And I love the new chatbot feature, I have really bad anxiety about texting real people but since it’s completely judgment free I can actually ask for help and discuss how to work through my problems. I just felt like I needed to say something. I really hope the app will stay as amazing as it is as it expands.
