Great for all levels!

I first downloaded this application right at the beginning of the lockdown/pandemic. I had been working out for a while so I was in good shape and could handle the long workout times. Well pandemic blues hit and I havent worked out in over 4 months, I am in pretty terrible shape and every bit of my body shook even with the easiest shortest exercises. I loved every minute of it. This app in invaluable, it lets me enjoy one of my favorite workouts from home and the music + the trainer keep me engaged.

Yoga great. Barre needs improvement

The yoga app is great. The barre app needs improvement. It should have levels of difficulty or modification. Some exercises are not designed if you have weak back muscles. You are simply going to extend your back and hurt yourself. Yes it is good for your abdominals, but not for your lower back. The app should come with levels or increase in difficulty. If you arch your back when lifting your legs on the matt, which people do if you are not an expert or advanced for that matter, they hurt their back. This is something every instructor would tell you in person. It’s just not designed well for someone that wants a bit more difficulty, but isn’t ready for a 4 minute plank.

New moves, same quality!!

I’ve been a subscriber to the yoga app for a while now and prefer it over the others I’ve used. Simple and functional format, no issues I’ve come across. This app (plus the new HIIT and 7 minute apps) work just as well and remain easy to use.I don’t have any background of Barre routines, I just want to broaden my horizons and this works very well. Now if we could only adjust the volume of the music (across all the apps)... sometimes the instructions are drown out by singing - that’s really the only negative thing I can say.

Love! Just a few thoughts...

I have been using the down dog yoga app for a year and love it so I was thrilled to find the barre app! The app is great. If I had any recommendations it would be to slow down the transitions between exercises when you are sitting down and standing up. I find myself having to rewind the work out in order to catch up. Also, I would love it if the app had a separate section for arms and for arm exercises to be added to the full body section. As it stands, I feel like I need to do other arm exercises when I finish the total body workouts. Overall, this is still great though and I will continue to use it.

It’s not too good to be true…

It’s just that good! Down Dog really is the only quality, affordable, and varied workout app I’ve found. They don’t bomb you with annoying ads or make you do the same 10 routines over and over again. It’s customizable, flexible, and I’ve been using both the Barre and Yoga apps for over three years now without getting bored. The app does what it says it will do, the Down Dog team actually listens to feedback and cares about its users. I can’t recommend the Down Dog suite of apps enough.

Barre

The yoga app (down dog) is great but Barre is awful. The only pro is that it does provide a large number of exercises for the body part you want to focus on. The negatives are many: 1) arms are completely left out, you can target most other body parts but not arms at all 2) there is no adjustment for ability level. Many of the excises given are too hard for me and the video doesn’t provide any modifications for making the move easier or harder 3) the verbal directions are terrible. The instructor says vague things like “lift” (lift what? In what direction?) “tuck” (tuck what? How?) “squeeze” (squeeze what? For how long?) “lift to the side” (what side?). And, even if you watch the video while trying to do the exercises it is very hard to see what movements the demonstrator is doing. 4) sometimes numbers are shown on the screen counting down how much longer you need to do the exercises and sometimes they don’t appear at all. It is frustrating to not know how much longer an exercise will last. 5) the music is very repetitive. I’ve heard the same songs over and over.

Amazing- will be upgrading to a paid subscription

I am a (broke) college student graduating next May, so I am using the free trial until July. I really never like paying for apps (especially fitness ones since there are so many to choose from), but I will definitely be getting a paid subscription when the trial is over! Plus the fact that the owners extended the trial for educators, student and frontline workers is amazing and needs to be recognized and rewarded. Many of my friends will be purchasing as well ❤️

Great workout, trashy music

I enjoyed the workout and high quality video. There were a few glitches of random video clips inserted into the workout which was confusing. There were also no transitions, leaving you scrambling from laying on the floor to suddenly stand up with a chair. I have used down dog for yoga and never had this issue. I assume these are things that will get smoothed out??The music was horrible! Found myself spending half the time changing the songs because of vulgarity. I want to be able to do a workout with my daughter and not have to worry about profanity and lyrics such as “I’m gonna take your bra off with my dirty teeth” or “These drugs don’t work, I just can’t get high.” Seriously?? Who made this music track? Not what I’m looking for when trying to reach wellness in the morning. Please change the music.

Great app suite

Thank you for these apps!! I got a free trial of them as a grad student during quarantine and am totally hooked. I did ballet when I was younger and have lately struggled to keep up a regular workout routine, especially as a college and grad student—I used to go to the gym or go for runs but after a few weeks my workouts would just be the last priority and I’d stop. These apps have totally transformed my lifestyle, I love that I can do a quick 7-min workout on that app if I am feeling low energy, or do yoga or barre for however long I want but still get a well-balanced session. I also hate pre-recorded sessions and especially the sentimental philosophizing that usually accompanies them, but these apps just get straight to the workout in a gentle yet encouraging way. I am hooked, these are so much better for me than trying to go to a gym or go running on the street, not just during quarantine!

A uniquely peaceful aesthetic

I like how visually simple and acoustically relaxing these workouts are while still being challenging. I’ve never been into the peppy lady yelling at me vibe, and this isn’t that. I usually listen with a podcast playing in the background (major plus that it allows this) but their music options are good too and not mind-numbingly corny like some workout backtracks. My favorite aspect of the app is how short I can make each workout. Sometimes I’ll start with just 2 minutes of glutes, which gives me momentum to keep going with different areas of focus. By the same token a 3 minute workout is a great way to break up a study session that’s long from over.
