Improvements Needed

I am both a pilot and an astronomer. I do like the app as the winds are the most valuable aspect when preparing for a flight along with other pilot tools. However, there are no state or county boundary lines or other demarcations on the maps. So, you have to be extremely knowledgeable about the region and terrain under a thunderstorm or you’re just guessing as to its precise location. A weather app should be about preparation, not guessing. The Sun and Moon information doesn’t work at all and when it did appear once for me, the information for the date was incorrect. Other features are nice, but when it comes to needing up-to-the-minute radar, I’m going to have to stick with far better apps that afford professional services and pinpoint locations of storm systems, lightning and ground tracks. Thanks for the effort and I look forward to more improvements.

Good app... but one gripe

I really enjoy using this app for weather. It gives you a detailed look at tons of different variables and helps you better understand how the weather around you works. My biggest gripe is that I always accidentally tap off of my current location when I pan around the map. There are two ways I think this could be fixed. First, consider letting users choose between “tap” and “long press” on the map to set a new location. Second, instead of having to tap the search button and then current location, give us the ability to have a current location button always available on the map (just like Google Maps). This is such a frustrating experience for me when using the app and is the main reason I didn’t give this a 5/5.

Really the Best Weather App

I’ve used a couple of other weather apps in the past and they were just okay. Dark Sky was my favorite but Apple just rolled their algorithm into their not great app. I used Ventusky for the cloud forecast info for astronomy for a bit, but have started to use it for all of the other features - and wow!! The weekly temperature forecast is great, as well as AQI and sunrise/set. It is so helpful to have all this info in one place. The only supplement I use is NOAA’s forecast info for a broad overview of the weather coming up and alerts/notifications of severe weather. Otherwise Ventusky is all you need.

Overall very useful and great visualizations, use of data. But there is a data issue.

I use the app frequently as we are at an altitude where wind can be a concern. Being able to see wind speed at various altitudes helps greatly.Just one thing: there’s a bug in the app when I happened to tap on the farthest day out (current day + 7, last three times of the day) where the shown wind speed jumps up to 230mph for all locations. Clearly this is a null data problem and not really an issue for normal use of the app. Just wanted to flag it so the developer can add it to the bug list. Which is my only other issue with the app: the developer has many obstacles to getting in touch, providing feedback, etc. I’m posting this info here in App Store feedback as I’m hoping the developer is bothering to check this feedback. Recent lack of developer replies maybe suggests this won’t happen though.

Love it

Came from “myradar” after that went downhill. Found the website, which is awesome, that led me here.Had an issue with the app not showing the forecast, coincidentally this is while a co-worker was trying tp get some customer service from cricket wireless. After a few hours of my coworker trying to resolve a fairly simple issue I sent am email to Ventusky. They responded with an hour with the solution to my problem. My coworker never got her issue fixed. The funny part is how a weather company in Chzecslacavia was able to resolve my issue quickly, while cricket wireless couldn't figure put how to get a subscriber to navigate their website. Hilarious.

Just what I was looking for!

This is the app I have been looking for. Something to show me the more detailed aspects of the weather. The interface is good and the rending of the layers is crisp and fast. The recent addition of the widget is welcome as well. However, the said widget has one bug. When there is a high wind warning it displays the wind gusts out to a insane number of decimal places. I’m sure this will be addressed soon and I am looking forward to more layers and functionality in the future. This could very well become a best seller weather app for those wanting more than just your basic type weather app!

Good Dark Sky replacement

In looking for an app to replace Dark Sky, this one seems to have all the features a person could want. Love that there is no tracking. The interface is information overload. I appreciate there is a balance between functionality and simplicity. This app errs on the side of functionality, which I’d prefer, but do wish it were a bit simpler/easier to navigate. This wouldn’t be a good app for my elderly parents, for example. But otherwise, this is a great app and should do for many folks looking for an app to replace Dark Sky. It takes a little while to become accustomed but it’s overall great.

Pretty solid - Could be improved

To start off, I’ll say that I like the app. I’m a pilot, so having some detailed information about the weather is something I usually keep in my pocket and this app does that well. For US users, it could be improved. For winds aloft, it would be nice to choose statue mph and nautical mph.For US users, it would be nice to have state outlines in the map. As it is, it’s a challenge to get a big picture of weather systems because as you zoom out to see each system, you lose reference to the specific geographic location. Having state outlines would be very helpful. For US users, and this is probably my #1 issue with the app, is having the winds aloft being presented in meters. Changing the unit in the settings does not change the winds aloft in the map. You have to choose 3500 meters if you want to see what the winds are like around 11,500 ft. Very annoying. But it’s a great app and I hope they improve it. I’d like to be able to recommend it to other pilots. 4 stars from me.iPhone X / IOS 11.4.1 / runs well

*Updated* Good Start

So far so good. The updates for the initial bugs have really helped. Look forward to the possibility of landscape mode on iPhone. Biggest downfall right now and what keeps me going back to the website instead of the app is there's no wave information in the app. My job is on the water so that's a significant loss in my book. Look forward to seeing that as an addition.*As the developer said in their response to my original review, it would take a bit, but they came through as promised and the wave height has been added with all the other features they've put in so far. It works great! And now information I need daily for work is quickly and easily accessible and I can even get updates while out on the boat if needed as long as we are near shore and get cell service. The app is much smoother to operate on-the-go over the website (not criticizing the website, merely thinking of ease of use on a smartphone) and now has all the features for forecasting a day or several working out on the water. Thank you!*

2 stars to 3 stars

When I initially wrote this review I got this app because of the detail you can see with it on an hourly time frame. At the time of writing my initial review I rated 2 stars because after an update the 1 hour time frame was not an option anymore. Now the 1 hour time frame is back as an option so I will bump it 3 stars. My reasoning is even though the 1 hour is an option as it moves through each 1 hour time frame on a majority of them the weather doesn’t change at all until every 3rd 1 hour time frame frame. Also because of the developer response I got from my initial 2 star review stating that the 1 hour time frame being removed as an option was not true. I had the app open in front of my very eyes, searched through numerous settings to try to find the 1 hour time frame that was not showing anymore.

Description

The app combines highly accurate weather forecast for your location with a 3D map showing development of weather in a broader area in a very interesting way. This allows you to see where precipitation is going to come from or where the wind is blowing from. The uniqueness of the app comes from the amount of data displayed.

Forecast of weather, precipitation, wind, cloud cover, atmospheric pressure, snow cover and other meteorological data for different altitudes is available for the whole world. WIND ANIMATION The Ventusky application solves weather displaying in an interesting way. Wind is displayed using streamlines which clearly portray the continuous development of weather. Airflow on Earth is always in motion and the streamlines depict this motion in an amazing way. This makes the interconnection of all atmospheric phenomena obvious. WEATHER FORECAST Weather forecast for the first three days is available in the app in one-hour steps. For other days, it’s available in three-hour steps. Users can also look up sunrise and sunrise times in a given place or air quality. WEATHER MODELS Thanks to the Ventusky application, visitors get data directly from the numerical models that, just a few years ago, were used solely by meteorologists. The app collects data from the most accurate numerical models. Besides the well-known data from the American GFS and HRRR models, it also displays data from the Canadian GEM model and the German ICON model, which is unique thanks to its high resolution for the whole world. Two models, EURAD and USRAD, are based on current radar and satellite readings. These models are able to show precisely current precipitation in US and Europe. WEATHER FRONTS You can also display weather fronts. We have created a neural network that predicts the positions of cold, warm, occluded, and stationary fronts based on data from weather models. This algorithm is unique, and we are the first on the world who makes global fronts forecast available to users. LIST OF WEATHER LAYERS • Temperature (16 levels) • Temperature anomaly • Perceived temperature • Precipitation (1 hour, 3 hour, long time accumulation) • Radar • Satellite • Wind gusts (1 hour, long time maximum) • Air quality (AQI, NO2, SO2, PM10, PM2.5, O3, dust or CO) • Probability of aurora LIST OF WEATHER LAYERS (PREMIUM) • Wind (16 levels) • Cloud cover (high, middle, low, total) • Snow cover (total, new) • Humidity (4 layers) • Dew point • Air pressure • CAPE, CIN, LI, Helicity (SRH) • Freezing level • Wave forecast • Ocean currents LIST OF WEATHER WIDGETS • Forecast 4x2 • Forecast 2x2 • Forecast 4x4 • Radar 4x2 • Radar 2x2 The app is completely free of ads.
