User Reviews for Timo Kids Weekly Routine Timer

My home is peaceful again!

A symptom of ADHD is “time blindness” and my kiddo definitely has it. He’d frequently waste his whole day doing nothing, or stretch simple tasks out so they took hours, only to complain later that he “never had any time to play or relax” when in reality he had upwards of 3 hours of “free time” every day that he wasted! Verbal reminders of “this is your play time that you’re wasting right now” didn’t register with him. We’re going on day 3 of using Timo and so far my ADHD/ODD 8 year old LOVES it. It’s so fun for him to try to beat the clock (we tried this same tactic before with kitchen timers, but it didn’t work - it’s much more fun if it’s a game!) and he loves getting points to update his avatar. I love that I haven’t had to remind him 20+ times (I’m not exaggerating) to get in the shower or brush his teeth. It’s saving my sanity AND our relationship as I no longer have to nag constantly (and yell - which I hate doing - when I finally reach my limit.) I know he’ll eventually grow bored with this as most kids probably do, but I hope to tie his “stars” in with some kind of physical reward in the future, maybe a trip or a new toy. I’d love if this app would periodically introduce some new elements so kids don’t get bored, but I’m new to the app so maybe they do!

Liked it until latest update

I really liked this app until the latest update. Before the latest update I could make custom routines for specific days and my routine changes would save. After the latest update, when I try to add things to a routine it doesn’t save. Also, if I try to add something to a routine on a certain day it adds it to all the days. This app has become pretty useless if I have to keep the routines the same because I can’t change them anymore or set them up properly with certain routines on specific days.

Love this app

I never write reviews but I love this app soooo much. It is perfect and it has completely changed our routines for the better. There was another app that I had found that didn’t have as much stuff and this one is free and so much easier to use. My son is high functioning autistic and really benefits from a visual schedule because he is a visual learner and so I’ve always meant to make one for him and never got around to it but this was already ready to go easy to adjust both the times and the order of the routines and there are so many tasks to choose from. There are a few here or there that I wish I could add but overall we have found something to correlate to our routine. Plus I can set it up on the iPad to run and the kids will check for themselves what they are supposed to be doing and hit it when they are done. In the morning I will oversee it but after school I will have them check it themselves and do what it says. If I had to offer any suggestions I’d say I wish there was a way to make it so that you can put the ending time and it will start the alarm when you have to start. Like if bedtimes 8 you could put that in and it would tell you when to start the tasks so that you finish on time and the alarm goes off then when you have to start by. Also pausing it but it’s not enough to make me not absolutely love it. Thank you all so much!

I miss the old Timo…

I’ve always loved this app, and as a person who’s grown up with pretty bad adhd this has been a LIFECHANGER. And I was obsessed with how cute the avatars were. There were so many choices for customizing your avatar and each one was so adorable. I even was so much better about following my routines because I wanted to get stars to customize my avatar. I got so many stars and really dedicated time into it and I loved my avatar. I ended up not using it for a while and forgot about it, and when I came back I saw it had changed a lot. I was really upset because it doesn’t give you routine ideas/presets like the original version did, which helped me a lot because it helped me remember what things I need to do if I couldn’t think of them off the top of my head while setting it up. The avatar isn’t as cute and the customization options are lacking so much… I couldn’t even find my own hair color because all there is available is black and funky unnatural dyed colors (which are cool, but I also can’t find brown hair or auburn hair so I’m pretty sad about that). I’m really unhappy with the changes, but I can’t really even afford to keep using it anyways after the trial… sorry if I seem harsh but I miss the old Timo so much, it helped me immensely. 💔

Truly love this app

We have been using Timo for over a year now. My 8 yr old son has ADHD and delayed motor skills. Those two factors were slowing us down big time in the morning. I was so busy managing him in the morning that I often forgot to get myself ready. Then I found myself driving like a race car driver to try to get him to school on time and me to work on time. I needed something that would provide him with a visual timeline of his morning so he knew what step he was supposed to be on and how long he had to complete it. Timo has fit the bill perfectly. I set up a basic timeline to start and tweaked it as needed until it fit our morning. As soon as he wakes up now we turn on Timo and let it run. He gets 5minutes to wake up, 15 minutes to eat breakfast, and so on. We built 15 minutes of free time in there toward the end as an incentive. I was afraid that having a visual countdown for how long he has for each task would give him anxiety, however it’s been the opposite though. He is no longer surprised when his time is up. I am not exaggerating when I say Timo has saved our mornings. There are a few tweaks that would make it better, such as the ability to go back to a task. Sometimes my son hits completed by accident and it jumps to the next task. To solve that problem I made an identical timeline in the evening slot and we use that one if we need to. Overall, Timo is a lifesaver.

Needs more parental control.

I love this app, it’s super cute and fun and has lots of options. The only problem is that kids can change the routine settings easily. My little guy has autism and is genius smart and very controlling and stubborn so it’s almost impossible to set the routine for him and have him leave it that way! He messes with the settings and never gets the routine done so it hasn’t been able to help us. Please make a parent mode and kid mode or require a passcode to change things! The math questions don’t work with a kid doing math several years ahead of his age🤦🏼‍♀️

Game Changer!

This app has saved us! My daughter’s mornings were so rough and now they are manageable and even pleasant! It’s so nice to have the timer to help keep her on track instead of us nagging her. In addition to completing tasks earning stars, I wish as a parent I could award them to her to doing her routine without the app or by doing some other tasks not on her list for that day! I also wish that she didn’t lose points by skipping a routine altogether. She doesn’t need the app EVERYDAY/EVERYNIGHT, but if we skip it seems she’s losing stars.Overall, I would recommend this to anyone who would benefit from a visual timer (warning— the dancing sloths are too fun and might motivate to run right up to the end of the timer! Haha!)

Update- wish we could just pay outright. -Awesome app for kids routines!

We decided not to use the app anymore once it went to a subscription model. I don’t mind paying outright for the app… but not a fan of subscription. We did really love this app when it was free!I have been using this app for my 5 and 3 year old since August for morning, lunch, afternoon, and evening routines as needed. It is so helpful! I appreciate that it isn’t too complicated to figure out how to set up, that it is entertaining my kids, and that the timer visuals are big and clear! Well done! It is sometimes glitchy and freezes if we don’t close the app completely in the evenings but the next morning all we have to do is completely close out of it and then reopen for it to work again.

so helpful & easy to use!

im in college and work full time and I use this app every morning to stay focused! I have adhd and this helps me get ready and not stress over how much time I’m wasting or what the next thing to do is. You can customize what you want on your routine, how long to spend on each task, and what order you want to do your tasks. And it’ll tell you how long your whole routine will take and you can set reminders to start your routine! I’ve used many other apps but they’re not motivating and too serious, I honestly love the cute music and characters, and there’s positive messages after every task you finish. It’s helping me build a morning routine which is something I’ve struggled with intensely for years. Love this app!! :)

Useful for adults, too!

I’m a designer with ADHD, and when I saw the UI for this online, I decided to give it a shot! Even though I’m an adult, I find this app extremely helpful in getting me to stay on task with my morning routine! It stops me from checking my phone and fooling around, and the timer keeps me focused on what I need to do.Only thing I noticed was that my morning and evening routine reminders seem to occur opposite to the time in my hemisphere (USA). The app’s timetable is off for me and I haven’t figured out how to change it! I’d really like to see the app adapt to my daily schedule.
