Seeing the print version and selecting the articles I want to read section by section was MUCH better in the former app. You had the best newspaper app of all. It was just like holding the familiar physical paper and scanning each page, and even selecting advertisements of interest. Please restore the original app.
Shouldn’t have to pay for a digital subscription to read news online, if you have a paper subscription. It should be part of the deal. We pay for a subscription but hardly get it. Tired of always having to call for missing paper. When we do get the paper by time I get up it’s tossed in recycling. No reason for me to get up at 5 am just to read the paper. Especially when we don’t get it until 8. Each day it gets later and later — if/when we do get it. Somehow my work gets free digital subscription. Why not residential customers too?
Useless on my iPad. No full page view as before. Who is the genius that designed this mess? Thinking of stopping my subscription. And I have been a subscriber for nearly 20 years. Both print and digital. Now only digital since our delivery person no longer delivers to our door.
Because the SJM changed the app you must use on the iPad, I can no longer read the news on the iPad. This is worthless. It won’t take my login and only lets you read one story before requiring you to login. If I could rate 0 I would. SJM, please fix this!!
And you wasted my time. I wanted an article on the business page. Not only do you not show a business page your system could not find section c (which is part of the sports section) and entitled Business +Technology. Just signed up for online Mercury News and already think I’ll cancel. Why do I have to sign in twice with all my information even though I’m already signed up? Website designers must be Russian.
This new design is so bad that i am seriously thinking about cancelling this paper after subscribing for 30+ years. This paper just cant seem to get it right.
This new mobile version is awkward and virtually useless on an iPad. May be better on an iPhone, but I don’t want headlines, I want to see all the articles on the page that I am paying for.
Did they forget to finish building this app? Is this a joke? You can’t read an article on this app without logging in EVERY SINGLE TIME. I’ve spoke. To customer service who were incredibly arrogant and rude, and they didn’t even care in the slightest bit. Garbage app for a armpit of a towns newspaper. Losers!
The new SJMerc app privacy policy is totally at odds with letting users chose what information we want to share. It smacks of Facebook’s approach to users, not as paying customers, but as products for SJMerc to resell.We pay SJMerc a subscription fee to use the app, and now they also want to force us to let them grab all our data.SJMerc, please explain.
