Even though there is no link or instructions to do so, you cannot get most stories unless you are a subscriber... I'm pretty sure they want you to subscribe to their paper, paper to have access to the stories on the app. I sent an email asking for an explanation, but I guess they're too busy to get back to me... It could be my fav app, but not if I can't read the darn stories.Fail
This is an advertising app, not a news app. First, it opens with a full screen of advertising that apparently scrolls on forever. When I manage to find news, there are more ads interspersed. But the worst of all are the irrelevant, annoying auto playing videos that keep popping up and covering the content. This is the experience of a subscriber who is signed in! It’s obvious the Skagit Valley Herald has no respect for its subscriber base. Compare this to the Seattle Times app for a subscriber. No ads anywhere.
It's extremely limited, only lists a few articles, and rarely gives the entire article. The common theme is "complete story available to members online". The obituaries are the same, doesn't list them all, and only has one sentence. Freezes frequently. All in all... LAME.
They upgraded the actual website, but I think the app was forgotten. It doesn't load anything now. Just blank pages where news would be. Before that, it was somewhat annoying that you could only read a couple lines and that was it. I'll bump the stars up when the app gets an update!
It's really nice to have an app that provides local news. However, you can only read a few of the stories - most of them state for "members" only. Whatever that means. They give no indication of how you can become a member or how much that might cost... The authors need to thoroughly think through what it's like to use this app.
Not sure why this app is so incredibly finicky and difficult to use. Other newspapers are inviting and easy to access, even if you do have to pay to access content. The Herald is chronically difficult to read and access.
Yes, many stories are not available unless you subscribe. The app used to work, but now says "unable to load content". Maybe they're on vacation... Tried to reinstall but that's not working either.
This is a very frustrating app. You cannot see all the content of the paper. Any article written by a local author can only be seen if you are a subscriber, but there is no obvious way to subscribe, and even when I did have a subscription to the Skagit Valley Herald I couldn't make the app show me all of the articles. Worst of the 4 newspaper apps I have.
Not the best, not the worst. Too many articles available to subscribers only. Obits are only first few words. Have to google almost everything for details.
It's terrible. The only local stories are all "for members only" meaning you have to pay to read them. All other stories are taken from other news sites.
